Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020/2024)

I'm having a hard time setting up custom VC cams. When I click to change the key command, I get an error every time. Whats the trick to set up custom cameras? BTW, the default key commands don't work. Pressing alt + number doesn't do a darn thing. Thanks. Jose

I deserve 0 credit, actually it was a guy in Germany, aldridgem who posted the link here on Avsim Bargains forum to the redacted free optimizer which sells for $0 at simmarket.com I'm not sure which of the dozen steps in their listed advise did the most good but f.p.s. went from 19+ to 58+ as measured by MSFS itself in the developers mode fps display. Free 16 page concentrated summary version link is in aldridgem's post in Bargains. Payware (10 pounds) version which covers other stuff (a complete 170 page MSFS users manual), not just optimization, is at the publishers site sofly.oi

In the beginning when I start MSFS 2020 there was a screen saying "checking for updates". Since the last update I do not see this screen anymore, does it mean it is not checking for updates anymore? Thanks Bernd

Is there a way to change the MSFS installation directory? At the first installation, for my mistake, I've only selected the main disk but i'd a specific directory named FS2020 o MSFS. Is it possible move the current installation in another directory (in the same disk)? Regards, Stefano

The Netherlands have 30 airports (including grass strips) and all available on the good old FSX. In the 2020 MSFS only 2 are available, EHAM and EHRD. will all become available in the near future is my question.

Which is expected. AI traffic cramps flight sim as we all know However I noticed that after loading up even at JFK my FPS is in the 25-30 fps range and the longer the sim is running the worse the performance gets with AI Traffic and this is with OFFLINE AI or REAL TIME LIVE AI. I have even attempted to lower the AI traffic slider to 10 and get the same result after about 30 minutes of the sim running the performance deteriorates. I did a flight to KSEA yesterday and could clearly see performance getting worse in cruise after 2 hours of flight. Hello everyone - I did some research and wasn't really able to find any advice or posts regarding this. I am currently running the sim at Ultra with render scale at 80. My specs are below. The Sim looks amazing but what I have noticed is when I pan or move the camera around the edges of objects display somewhat jagged. When the camera stops moving, everything looks clean and crisp with no jagged edges. I'm not sure how else to describe what i see - perfectly smooth when still, jagged lines/edges as the camera moves. Any specific settings I should modify or any ideas? Surprised to see my local PC shop has this in stock, at a fair price. I know it is more or less the same hardware as the T16000. Has anyone tried this out and if so, any strong opinions either way? Might pick one up to use alongside my CH Products kit. Seems to have an unusual rudder setup using the trigger but I will use my CH Products rudder pedals anyway.

So lately, there are a couple of things that drive me crazy about trying to fly IFR flights in jet aircraft. I'm sure this is just as likely to be my lack of knowledge than any issue with the game (or perhaps both), but I could really use some help! 1. How do you skip a waypoint in your flightplan with the FMC? For instance, in a plan A->B->C->D, how to do I go A->B->D (skip C)? The reason I ask, is because sometimes on a flight, when the arrival is activated, the first waypoint of the arrival has already been past. This is frustrating to no end IMO 😞 With the ability for the sim to generate dense forested areas and allowance for sloped runways strips like this should easily have been a great fun challenge to fly in and out of, keeping clear of the natural obstructions. I've been doing a survey of airports in NJ and now working through NY and of the over 100 turf fields I've checked only 1 that has trees near the runway hasn't looked like this. It seems the airport exclusion area or the runway itself has removed the autogen vegetation immediately surrounding it as well as extended for a fair distance along the direction of thresholds. I have looked all over the place and i myself have not found an answer that makes me understand correctly. Does it actually work? So i assigned 30gb to rolling cache to my SSD and when i look at the file it registers as 29gb. Ok so it is set. But does the size go down or up? For a lamen like myself i would have thought that you set the size, then over time that file increases in size till it reaches max then starts again. Instead it shows max size straight of the bat. My cat jumped on my keyboard and all of the sudden I have a rear view of my aircraft and I can't do anything. Can't switch to cockpit view, the Drone view options are all grayed out, the plane won't move. I'm pulling my hair out figuring out...What happened? So I'm trying to look at keyboard mappings, looking up internet searches on "external camera locked" and all sorts of other stuff and by luck see slew mode toggle command in the command reference and hit that and "BINGO". Would have been easier if they actually labeled slew mode as slew mode. Might have saved me some grief.

Flew into KCIC in Butte County CA from KRNO to see the fires again threatening to burn up our poor town of Paradise yet again. We were evactuated out and barely made it out after the infamous Nov 8, 2018 Camp Fire and lost 2 rental properties there, but our primary house we built in 1985 survived, though all the neighbors' homes burned to the ground as did 90% of all homes in Paradise. I hate to say this but a much needed patch is in order for the Longitude (which is actually a great aircraft). I already posted some of this but after testing I'm confirming my findings: 1. Turning on the wind indicator on the PFD for upper layer wind speed/direction causes CTD 2. Skipping waypoints on a long flight which was a selling feature of the sim has the aircraft popping back up in the new location with all settings in the cockpit back to start (AP speed at zero, altitude settings at zero, etc) 3. I was a bit disappointed that my local airport, F45, North Palm Beach County airport does not exist on MSFS. It is a busy relief airport for KPBI and quite busy with tourists. As I fly over it, since I can navigate their visually, I see outlines of the runways and taxiways but that's it. I'm wondering if it was an oversight or if it will be included in a future update.

The "fisheye effect" in MSFS when changing to spot view is weird, and I remember a post that supposedly guided you to the MSFS config file and something was changed. The one thing I remember in the post was that the change DID NOT effectively stay changed. Could you direct me to the Cfg file location, the change that has to be made, and whether the SAVE function actually saves the change....since we just had an update. Thanks, Stan
