Gates Learjet 35A

  1. Hi Folks, Looks like we lost one in Teterboro NJ yesterday... Funny - I've looked at this paint previously planning on doing it at some point... Initial reports point to a difficult Circle to Land approach with gusting winds in excess of 45 knots... Circle To Land approaches sure seem to raise the difficulty bar as there have been a bunch of high profile crashes while using this type of approach... Quotes regarding the approach used at KTEB: Regards, Scott

Upgraded to v2.9. When I press "/" the spoilers extend and immediately retract. If I use the mouse to toggle the switch on the panel, spoilers work as expected. I don't recall that the earlier version ignored the "/" but I may be mistaken. Thanx, Vic

  3. Hi, Leafing through some old magazines the other day, I discovered a 1980 Pilot Magazine flight test of the 35A by Peter Duffey. Peter had an enviable career, flying an incredible variety of types including Avro Lancastrians, Yorks and Tudors, Douglas DC-3s, 4s and 7Cs, de Havilland Dragon Rapides, the Comet 1 and Comet 4, the Boeing 707, and finally became a test pilot and BA captain of Concorde. He clearly loves the little jet, finishing his review with, "Please may I have a Learjet to play with when I retire from airline flying this year?" Anyway, if you want to read the flight test, just PM with your email address and I'll send you a copy (if my scanner beha…

  4. Hi, I understand the LNAV/VNAV approaches are made in the GPS mode. Should the 'Glide Slope' be armed to capture? I have tried a couple GPS approaches and the glide slope is active but the AP does not follow the glide slope descent commanded by the GPS. Thank you in advance. Bob

Hi Folks, Just messing around on my laptop with FSX Steam since I'm traveling this week - so no fancy shaders or anything that I normally use with P3D - all vanilla except for the plane... I can't actually fly it on my laptop though... Departing Key West... Regards, Scott

Is there a way to tell which version I have installed in my sim? I looked at the Control Panel; Program and Features in Win7 but it did not show the version there like many do. I bought the plane from FSS but they don't mark the download with a version number so I don't know if I have v2.8 or not. Is there a way to tell inside the sim? Thanks for any ideas. Jerry

  8. It might be good to have a place to collect everything regarding reference documentation for the real (and simulated) Learjet. Normal checklists: http://www.mrmoo.net/pilot/LR35/Lear%2035%20-%20N600DT%20Normals%20Checklist.pdf http://tomgorski.com/asr/Lear/LR35_Checklist_ATI.PDF Folder with checklists, maneuvering charts, panel art and more: http://www.mrmoo.net/pilot/LR35/ Checklists and quick reference manual (including abnormals): http://documents.tips/documents/2008-checklist-learjet-35a-ch-2.html (Remove the single quotation marks from the file name when downloading.) As a feature request, would it be possible to make the transponder work with Vatsim Squawkbox? So that when you switch the GTX330 transponder from Standby to On, that it will also change the transponder mode of the Vatsim Pilot client from standby to mode C. That would be awesome! Thanks! 10. The Learjet (v2.8), as good as the model is, is an absolute VAS hog, so here are some tips for improving VAS conservation. 1. Use smaller textures. I've included some in my mod package. This is the best way to save some memory since MSFS creates a clone of the material (including textures) for every animation in a model. And the Learjet has a lot of animations. 2. Disable "High Resolution Virtual Cockpit" in FSX' options. This oddly enough yields about 200 MB of additional free VAS. 3. Lower autogen from "Extremely Dense" to "Very Dense". The extreme setting tends to bleed available VAS dry (not just with the Learjet, mind you), even despite running less va…

Since installing L35 ver 2.8 I have noticed that the AP SPD Hold function hunts up and down in pitch much more than with previous L35 versions. I see fairly large pitch swings with the a/c seemingly trying to catch up with the FD. Has anyone else noticed this? Flysimware says the SPD Hold code has not been changed, so I'm wondering if something else, like a change in the pitch trim limit, might be contributing to this? Or if something in my setup is at fault. I use FSX. Thx, Al

As I understand it, the default FSX tailhook command (Shift+ Q) should activate the Lear35's Steer Lock light as does the Steer Lock button on the console between the seats. However, I have not been able to get the Steer Lock light to respond to Shift+Q. I am using the boxed FSX, and Shift+Q is assigned in FSX as Tailhook Up/Dn. I run all commands through FSUIPC. When I push the Shift+Q combination on the keyboard the Steer Lock light does not respond. If I assign Shift+Q to a button in FSUIPC, that also does not work. I have even tried using a small Lua script to send the tailhook control code (as listed in the FSUIPC controls document) and that does not work either. If…

I was hoping to simulate the Medway Air Ambulance firm out of KLZU in Georgia. I would be very grateful for a repaint of N55FN in the Lear 35A GTN model. https://flightaware.com/photos/view/4233672-0aad068b808dfa6f051cde28d4f2ff3552f484a8/aircraft/N55FN/sort/votes/page/1 If anyone is looking to "spice up" their purpose for flight simulation - check out the Air Hauler 2 (Early Access). This looks to be a future winner ! http://justflight.com/product/air-hauler-2 Thank you

I'm working on a couple of REVA Air Ambulance paint jobs for those of you would like to simulate that very common use of the Learjet 35. Learjets in general have for years been the work horse of the air ambulance industry. The Learjet 35 is by far the most popular choice with its unbeatable performance. Nothing can fly farther, faster, and on less fuel than the Lear 35 with its fuel efficient turbofans (compared the ambulance Lear 25s running on thirsty turbojets) and increased fuel capacity with a larger fuselage fuel tank. Just a couple of quick shots in P3D V3 (I just made the switch). 2017-2-12_9-48-5-261b by Mitch Haughee 2017-2-17_14-5-15-948b by Mit…

  21. Hello. I am enjoying this MU2 and so far I have been able to do 3 full flights. My question comes regarding the ALT SEL mode. According to the manual you need to use in conjunction with IAS or VS. I haven't been able to capture the altitude selected on Sperry ALT SEL unit. I establish a climb of around 700 fpm and then select VS first followed by ALT SEL and the aircraft immediately pitches up. It keeps trimming up and airspeed starts bleeding off. When I try the same but this time with IAS, after establishing a speed of around 200 kts. the aircraft behaves similar and just pitches up without me being able to correct the pitch with the trim. Can somebody how this…

Hi Folks, Just in case the developer ever decides to pick up the torch again on the Lear... A couple issues that might warrant consideration... The landing lights do not illuminate the runway on approach... I came across a comment where they stated the ITT on startup rose way too fast... From a Lear 35 pilot I chatted with on AOPA - you should be able to engage "VS" - without "Altitude Select" on... Regards, Scott

The gtn750 an all other displays for the autopilot are starting. Thanks for help Dirk

OK, so I just installed Lear 2.8 and very nice too! Then updated Orbx NA. As I loaded the aircraft at parking 11 KEGE, my GTN 750 was not working! Just like avionics switch was off? Selecting Avionics on/off/on made no difference. After an hour of messing about I gave up and uninstalled/reinstalled the GTN and Trainer. Next issue was "No GPS available, no satellite signal"? A trip over to F1 forums and apparently its a known issue. To cut a long afternoons misery short, after another uninstall/reinstall, and installing three sets of .dll "fixes", I am back to "No GPS satellites in range"? I also have no charts, but they show up in the Trainer? Anyo…
