Gates Learjet 35A

  1. Could someone please suggest a fix for this? It seems the Lear taxi and landing lights cannot be seen from the cockpit and do not illuminate the runway or tarmac. From an outside view one can see a faint illumination on the ground and the lights are very bright if one looks at them from outside. But they do not illuminate the ground. The only other aircraft I have flown recently is the PMDG 737 NGX and those lights work fine. Any ideas?

Hi all, i recently purchased the Lear and it seems a nice plane. She flies well, but..... when i change views, like i go to map view to look for the ils freq. and then come back to cockpit view, i get a black screen or a very fuzzy screen. Can do nothing more then end the flight and start over again. Never had that with other planes i purchased. Anyone on what the problem could be? thx,

Hello, Since upgrading to version 2.8, I can no longer use the Payload manager to change fuel or load passengers, luggage or Cargo. Anybody else with the same problem, or is there something wrong at my end?????

Sure, I realize you don't see that many red tailed 35s but, I have one in work. And yes, I know it is still referred to as a Gates Learjet, but ATC came back with Bombardier 35 so I thought, hmmm. I need to add a few swirls but nothing like what we already have, for sure. This is in answer to someone who asked for something to pull up to the gate and not be embarrassed about the paint job. Regards, Ray

On the pilots HSI, concentric with the course knob there is a three position switch with the labels ST, TTG (Time To Go) and SPD (Speed), and you can select which of these three values to display in the upper left corner of the HSI. The ST position of this switch is for the DME distance readout, but I can't figure out what ST stands for, unless there is a 'typo' and it should be DST. Ideas? Thx, Al

Hey guys, I am currently experiencing a very annoying issue regarding the yaw damper of the Lear. As you can see in the video I made, I am flying within the envelope (Weight low enough to be at F430 and speed below MMO) but even with Yaw Damper ON the yaw oscillation is extremely high and unreallistic. Turning OFF the yaw damper does not help either, the only thing it does is giving me more rudder authority, which is how it works but does not solve the oscillation. From my point of view, it seems that the Yaw damper is reacting slow, thus aggravating this yaw motion (something like a pilot induced oscillation), but I don't know how can I resolve it.... This happen…

Assume you are using the GTN750 to fly a missed approach. In what order should the following steps be accomplished at the MAP assuming the Alt window has been preset to the target altitude: 1. Increase power to takeoff setting. 2. Push (activate) the L35 missed approach button (FD commands wings level & 5 deg pitch up, VS is ON, ALT SEL is Armed, AP is OFF). 3. Raise the Gear. 4. Raise flaps (to 8 degs?) 5. Activate the GTN750 missed approach procedure 6. Turn AP on and to NAV mode when necessary VS has been established. Anything missing? Thx, Al

Just started to wrestle with this impressive beast and it is loads of fun! Couple of quick questions: Having difficulty with directional control on take off. How do you guys manage a nice smooth takeoff? Having difficulty capturing the glideslope. Had to hand fly my last landing. Autopilot captured the localizer OK. Should I have pressed the GS button on the autopilot? Small item. Where is the cockpit/panel light switch? Thanks for any help! Al

Hi Folks, My continued work on voice control... Just programmed this into my Voice Attack profile last night and it makes my takeoffs so much more manageable (thanks to Al's LUA Scripts)... I would think it would be a routine task the PF would hand off to the PNF during this all critical takeoff phase of flight in the RW... My "HDG Bug Inc" and "HDG Bug Dec" are mapped to keys on my programmable keyboard for easy steers... It might not sound like much - but - it allows me to focus on "flying the plane" and I'm performing much better takeoffs now... Anything that keeps me "heads up" instead of hunting for the mouse or looking down to press keys is a big help... Th…

Just bought the Lear v2.7 from JustFlight and want to check it out outside of my FSX folder structure first. The installer won't let me though, saying that it "can't find a simulator there". How does the installer determine a valid FSX folder? - Edit: Neither the usual tricks copying fsx.exe into the temporary folder nor changing the registry path to FSX did work. [Curses] - Edit²: *Sigh* Out of ideas. Can someone at least confirm that the Learjet installs the following files and folders (and amend the list if need be)? SimObjects\Airplanes\FLYSIM Learjet 35A Effects\fx_landing_3D_FSW.fx Sound\MT - Edit³: On a more psoitive note: The first i…

Hi Folks, OK - from the get go - I'm definitely not expecting PMDG level of adherence to performance numbers on this product but I'm a bit confused and just trying to figure this stuff all out... Recently - I just started putting together some numbers from the AFM charts in a tabular format - so I could have a ballpark idea on how to "properly" fly this thing... What I'm finding are gross mismatches from the data published in the AFM and that published on the FSW Reference page of the kneeboard... We've all noticed and discussed the "Arming" of spoilers before - so we know the Reference page is wrong on that... What is the Maximum Mach of this plane su…

Just Flight has the Advantage WX Radar on sale for less than $18 so I thought it would be a good time to learn a little about using weather radar. I installed it in the L35 and have been thinking about how to use it to estimate the height of storm tops in relation to cruise altitude. If we assume the radar puts out a nice thin coherent beam (which it does not) we can use some simple trig as below: If we let the Slant Range (SR) be 1NM we get the following H heights: Note that for a Tilt Angle of n, the height is on the order of n hundred ft – easy to remember and probably close enough given the inherent approximations. And the height increases i…

  15. Hi Folks, Working on making my own checklist for this aircraft... Question: In all the real world checklists I've found for reference - none of them mentions the "Jet Pumps"... I'm assuming these two switches are the fuel pumps for the respective sides - however - multiple startup and shutdown checklists ignore them... Are they just left "always on" - is it just an automatic action when starting or pulling the throttles into cutoff ??? Question: I've found two separate references for "arming" the thrust reversers - one of the Transition Check descending through FL180 check - the other on the Before Landing Check which I would assume is done after interception …

Well here is a movie of my flight in my Lear. I have more enjoyment flying this sim than some costing five times as much! Remember that this depicts MCE use in an "unsupported aircraft" i.e. only native FSX/P3dswitches are coupled to MCE commands. When it gets supported, everything will work! Cheers David

  17. Hi Folks, Just a minor contribution - if anyone finds it useful... Resized and repositioned the Radar and GPS popup windows for better proportions in a vertical stack down the right hand side of the panel... You can copy and paste this block over the original in your panel.cfg - - - I commented out the original with the "//" so you can easily swap back if so desired... Hey guys, does anyone else have an issue with the Lear not following the route from the GTN750? Mine keeps overshooting in turns, then it screws up the correction and overshoots again. This way it takes 2 or 3 turns until it gets aligned with the new course.

  20. Hello everyone, I'm new to the Flysimware Learjet 35A. I've read the manual but sadly there is little detail in there, I have a few questions. 1. What does the AIR IGN L and AIR IGN R switches do ? The manual just releats their name without saying anything :( 2. Is there no APR button for the Auto pilot ? Do we just put it to NAV for ILS landing ? 3. How do I activate reversers ? I arm them but how do I make them deploy ? Sure I can use F2 but I was wondering how to deploy them once armed. Thank you everyone

Does anyone know how to map the WX gauge to Shift+4. When I click on the 3d weather gauge it does not auto pop up, instead a window appears with "no panel is mapped to panel 4 key combo Shift+4." I can pop it up by Shift + 8 from the key board, but no clickable pop up? Works fine in the MU-2. Cheers David

  22. Hi, Had the Lear for a while now and am running the latest update with the WX Advantage Radar support. All appeared to be working well until recently when both the pilot and co-pilot DME audio identifier switches seemed to become jammed up in the 'on' position, meaning I can't switch off the ear-piercing morse code sound that accompanies tuning in to a DME navaid. If I click on the switch, it makes a clicking sound, but the switch doesn't move. I've tried left-clicking, right-clicking, rolling the mouse-wheel... Not sure what else to do apart from reinstalling the aircraft. Can I edit a file or something to force the switch back into the 'off' positions? Driving my wife …

  24. Hi Folks, Just a bit more real world information - the fuel planning profile off of Fltplan.com for a Lear 35A - granted - I'm sure the model won't match perfectly but at least it's some actual data for ballpark comparisons... The profile stated M .75 but I calculated M .77 - it's probably an error on my part... Includes both the detailed and hourly fuel burn method... The data is available to anyone on their site - photobucket stepped down the resolution as my original was clear - I can send it to anyone that needs it as well... Regards, Scott

Hi Folks, OK - I am really enjoying this plane... Last night I setup Al's fantastic LUA scripts to give me button control over all the autopilot buttons and some of the other controls in the cockpit as well... I took it a step further and used Voice Attack to gain a second set of hands in the cockpit to push them - via voice control... While this is the first time I ever tried it - what a difference - this voice control thing has breathed new life into flying complex aircraft in P3D for me... I'm very impressed... I even have voice control setup for all my Radar Contact commands - no longer fumbling to hit "1" or "7"... A complete flight with RC4 without ever typing a…
