Got the liquid landing achievment today on the first try and it was pretty easy. Touched the wheels down on the water just west of Kenai, and stopped up on the dry land. Seems like the cub wants to stay on top of the water. For those that haven't done it, it should be one of your easiest to obtain.

  2. I just read through a 58 page thread on overclocking my laptop and I'm tempted to try it. Based on the temps my cpu and gpu run at, I probably have more room to overclock my gpu. But I know historically FSX was more CPU bound. A lot of the performance boosts that were being reported in the thread I read were in games that tend to be mote gpu dependent (lots of shooters). Does anyone know if Flight will take advantage of more GPU better than FSX? Has anyone seen any improvement in Flight after overclocking?

I have recently downloaded Flight and am enjoying flying around Hawaii, but when I try to log into Windows Live to get the Stearman it asks for the product key. Where do I find the product key? Thanks.

I just found out that some rivers in Alaska actually get frozen in the winter. That was quite a pleasant surprise. Summer: https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B5KlAiYuI68TVGJFOGxRWWNhY2s/edit Winter: https://docs.google.com/open?id=0B5KlAiYuI68TUzUtUi01dVFXTTg

Now that Alaska was released I wonder what's coming next (besides the deluxe CC). Of course this is nothing but speculation, but It would be interesting to hear opinions about what's likely/unlikely included in Microsoft's development plan for Flight. I'd like this not to be confused with the "what we want in Flight" topic but more of a prediction of what the developers have in mind for the future based in what we have received until now as the customers. For now I think MSGS will continue to improve on Alaska by creating new missions, jobs and perhaps give us another new aircraft with VC (Beaver, Goose, etc.) and a few other cockpitless planes. And after that? We…

Northeast of Wasilla is an airport called Jack Fish Landing (7AK4). This should be an interesting landing in anything faster than the cub or Icon. I took a couple of screen shots, but they came out too dark to do the strip justice. Go have a look.

Hello there, I own FSX with the ORBX add ons Pacific Fjord that cover a little part of south Alaska. Is someone owning Flight Alaska and FSX with the ORBX Pacific Fjord add on is willing to make screen shot of the same place under the two simulator so I (we) can see if it worth it from a graphical point of view ? Thanks in advance.

It has been a long 6 or 7 months, long and hard as we try to establish this forum, and make it a pleasant and enjoyable place for those who like and use Flight. And it is important to show appreciation and support for the moderator who is taking a great part in this effort. It is not easy for him, because inevitably he becomes the target of the disgruntled and angry people who are still coming here sowing discord and seeking negativity. In all my years at Avsim, I have established some simple rules so that I am part of the solution, and not part of the problem: Rule no.1 - Trust the Moderators. Their goal is to keep the forum a safe and pleasant place. They have …

Well I took a 180 mile flight today from PAOR to PACV ( Northway to Cordova). Wanted to check out the trim on the Maule, and this flight goes over a Glacier called Mt Blackburn in Wrangell St Elias National Park. The terrain on the sectional shows 16,700 feet as the highest point. Started the flight climbing out to around 5k, trimmed the Maule, and it was like it was on auto pilot. Tracked straight as an arrow for mile after mile until I got near the base of that mountain range, and I just trimmed it for a climb of abut 500 fpm and along we went. I noticed as I gained altitude, the my airspeed started decreasing along with the MP. Around 14 k, the airspeed went down …

  14. Well, poop! I was just using GMap for Flight a few days ago, and now... ...after having just bought both the WAC and Sectionals for Alaska... ...suddenly GMap will no longer connect to Flight. I did install v2.1 a few weeks days ago because of the update to Flight + Alaska DLC, and as I said it was working fine when I last used it last week. I also created the FSWidgetsGMap.ini file to include my gmapkey and email, but whether the file is in the folder or not, GMap simply won't connect.

I did this more as a self-tutorial on working with video clips, and less as an actual flying tutorial of any sort. Still, some of you may find it interesting in that it shows how easy it is to create a detailed flight plan using some of the old FS planners, and then pull that flight plan up in Flight, using Gmap.

Well I started a 125 mile flight today out of Fairbanks in the RV6A ( decided to give the Cub a rest). Took off in overcast weather, set the VOR, and after checking Gmap started the trip. About 10 minutes into the trip, my cellphone rings and it's an old pilot friend. So we started talking about different things, and I kept glancing at the monitor screen, and the RV kept trucking along at 5,000 feet and on course. We talked for almost the entire flight ( yeah I know, distracted flying) and the RV needed maybe two 5-10 degree corrections in course, and about 15 miles out I started a slow descent and started hand flying again. Pretty stable aircraft. Short Final…

I flew down to Masset, BC in the Queen Charlotte islands. Looks like they have broken ground on the Masset airport and even installed fuel pumps and an NDB. Perhaps upcoming scenery of the west coast is in the works? If you fly across the Bering Strait to Russia, its looks like the Sahara, doesn't seem like it would take much to add trees at least. They've taken some time to put some basic scenery into a least the adjoining sections of BC No coffee shop though...

I wish all our fellow flight simmers around the world an enjoyable day and wish we were also independent in our various forums. It is really a pain to have to tip-toe around Flight, FSX, FS9, X-Plane, etc. to stay informed of what's happening and what fellow simmers are thinking about and always keeping in mind which Mod get easily irritated and which ones don't. It is most unfortunate we can't be just a little more open minded and if you wish to totally restrict yourself to one product, fine, but don't restrict me your chosen limitation. These sims are growing at very different rates and as some may be fading in the sunset one day and another might be the chosen one…

I was doing a job with the Carbon Cub at night from Hughes (PAHU) to Trading Bay Productions (5AKO). The flight nurse about had a fit when I took off from the ramp instead of wasting time taixing to the active. Anyway ended up at Trading Bay ok. By this time it was midnight and I was ready to turn in when I made the mistake of checking the job board. Well, here was a Clandrstine job to Sterling Air Park (40AK). I could not pass it up, so off I went, sleep is over rated for us old guys anyway. I was only about 36 miles but I went on a round about course. Kept about 200 feet over the water and under 500 feet over land and arrived in the area with out incident. It was so da…

I belong to a motorcycle forum where each summer we have a game called Motorcycle Tag. Someone rides to a recognizable location, takes a picture of their bike there, then posts it to the forum. The first person to find the location and post a picture with their bike in the same location gets some points and has to then post the next picture taken in a new location. It's really a lot of fun and a great way to get out riding and exploring. While we wait for Alaskan Aerocaches, I thought it could be fun to do our own "Plane Tag". Due to the size of Alaska, and the fact that most of it is trees and mountains and every airstrip looks the same, some navigation hints c…

The AVSIM MS Flight forum is created for people who like to fly in Flight and who also like to talk about it. Share experiences, views, thoughts, expectations, tips, etc. Although you are allowed to discuss bugs or inquire if something you see is indeed a bug or not, you should do the actual reporting of those bugs on the official MS Flight forum which you can find here: http://forums.steamp...play.php?f=1376 Yes, that is the Steam forum, but it is the official forum for Flight. Even if you don't use Steam at ALL, you should use that forum for reports! It is the only forum where the Flight team officially and actually replies to posts. You could also use the f…

Hi @ll, I think that one good thing we could do as community is to report those bugs that can be reproducible by ourselves or others in their computers. I will start with those that I found myself. 1. Missing AC This has been exposed in other thread, basically is that when you hunt for an AC your radar is working, but you can be on top of it and being unable to see it. Usually it happens after you make Alt+Tab to some other programs several times. Can be corrected just closing Flight and running it again. 2. Missing Jobs If you accept and start a job and later you crash you can re do the job reinitializing it or from a control point. But, if for some circums…

  25. Hi All, I was wondering if I can purchase Alaska from Steam if the rest of my Flight installation came from the Windows Live site. The Steam page says something about "requiring the base game on Steam to play". I ask because my other Steam games are launched from the Steam Interface; but my version of Flight does not. Thanks.
