We have done something today that we have never done before in our entire 15 year history. We have closed down posting privileges for all users on a specific forum. The FLIGHT forum in this case. Despite not so subtle hints, suspension of users, and deletion of topics, some have persisted in trashing the forum from both sides of the "aisle" so to speak. We have had enough. The forum will remain readable, as an example of how embarrassingly childish and parochial some can be. On the 29th, once FLIGHT is released, we will delete EVERY message in that forum and reopen it. We will open it with its own stringent set of rules. The topic of FLIGHT will not be allowed to just mi…

This will also be posted in the Prepar3d forum.Armchair and wannabe lawyers pay attention to what follows...There comes a time when speculation, rumors, innuendo and allegations do harm. Wannabe lawyers who have endlessly dragged the subject of the EULA provided by MS to Lockheed through every perturbation of "expert" opinion, can congratulate themselves. You have succeeded in putting people, careers and products at risk.I have been contacted by sources that do know the facts, and the consequences of the BS occurring in these forums. It is time to cease and desist.I am asking all the MODS here to be alert to any further discussion of the so called EULA and shut down the t…

Hey everyone, I really enjoy playing Microsoft Flight, and find that is by far the best flight sim experience with regard to missions, graphics, engine, etc and runs pretty good on relatively low-spec systems. However, it seems that since around a month or so Microsoft has rendered Microsoft Flight installation impossible, likely due to the launch of the new Microsoft flight simulator. Fortunately, I still have a copy of the game installed on my computer at home, but I am currently out of town for college so can't use it. Has anyone had sucess in installing the game lately? Are some parts of the game starting to break? Does anyone have an alternative install file or…

I'm pleased with the potential I see in MS Flight and look forward it's official release. With Hawaii (Big Island) as the start point for it's launch with the full islands available as DLC it would have been nice to have a helicopter available as DLC at the start. The classic Bell 206 would have been nice, but even an R-22 would do. Being aimed at bringing in new simmers in is fine but I think MS missed the boat by ignoring a large portion of our community. In the real world choppers are used extensively in the islands so it's puzzling to me why they have been left out at the start. I realize that in terms of "new simmers" a chopper may pose some problems flying if your us…

You know I've been flying around in the beta these last few days before I loose it. For a low and slow flight game the scenery, graphics, performance, ground detail and easter eggs with animations in the game ain't bad. I was thinking today how sucky the default FSX scenery is. Also how many hundreds and hundreds of dollars I would have to spend to get my FSX looking decent, or at least to the default scenery level of Flight.LOOK I think it's stupid they way they are launching it and the way they are selling the little super expensive pieces and how they have turned this into a game from a sim... I think flying with a mouse or keyboard is stupid and those dumb aerochac…

I was just going to reply to a post in a separate thread, but the more I look through this forum, the more I am saddened by our own community, so I shall start a new thread and open myself to personal commentary from my peers...Hey... I have just realised... technically I am a 3PD too. OK, I don't make models and I have only done a couple of sceneryettes for Misty Moorings, but in my "EagleSkinner" life I have painted a couple of hundred different aircraft. Apparently some people think my lavatory even smells nice (sic). I did spend a lot of time with the SDKs for both FS9 and FSX - even though I really dislike html books (I much prefer paper - it's great for post.its). S…

http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/technologybrierdudleysblog/2017460350_qa_microsoft_flight_boss_on.html"Q: It seems like the tradeoff you made - building richer, smaller locales to explore in the game - is the loss of the full, open world that could be explored in "Flight Simulator"?A: The bet we've made is that to the non-hardcore simmer, flying the whole world isn't as interesting when there's nothing really interesting to see or do. I do get that for some segment of the audience that was one of the values - I can fly anywhere, into any airport, 25,000-odd airports was crazy. But I think as you try to broaden and you want to bring in not the next million or two but …

There could be little chance of seeing airliners released this year for Flight, but this also raises another question, could this mean the end of flying aircraft for our favorite airlines? Could the DLC system be clamped down as to not let us repaint aircraft into our favorite liveries?Even if they do give us airliners, we might only see ones currently in production, so this could mean no classic airliners

Anyone else find it strange that a cockpit for the DLC Mustang isn't going to be available? It's not like there would be much to model as it is a pretty sparse panel-- so that can't be it I wouldn't think. My guesses...1. MS is testing the Mustang as a DLC option to include cockpits. So you would buy the Mustang and later buy a cockpit. Cha-Ching.2. MS is afraid that people will crash the higher performance Mustang and become frustrated so they gave an outside view that would be more forgiving.

Why are some of you so mad about Flight been closed to you (3PD), as I understand, from some of your post, Flight will be a BIG flop, so why are you so mad?As some of you also said or think, Flight will only release small regions, so if I take that in consideration, how many of you (3PD) would it take to cover an area like Hawaii, so does MS really need 3PD for such small area like that? Can you not keep making addons for FSX?Why bother with Flight if you all think that it will be dead in the water in a matter of weeks or months, I don't get it......or is it that you may be secretly scared of the fact that Flight may take off (pun intended) and by doing so addons for it wi…

This is a Post from Garsand, About the general attitude here in the Flight forum. Read it carefully, and examine how someone would feel if they came here, looking for fun, knowledge, and how to stick those damn ILS landings, lol This is how Avsim looks to an outsider.

My latest blogpost. As I struggled to find something positive about DLC I thought I'd submit it here for comments. I might have missed something. I think the subject is interesting since Flight and most Microsoft games seem to adopt the DLC model.Microsoft Flight is just one of many games these days that are offered through a downloadable content (DLC) model. With DLC one usually refers to additional content offered as an expansion to a game. Subject to many critical articles in the press the DLC model is controversial. Just like gambling, acquiring DLC content can become an addiction, especially for young gamers.DLC is nothing new. It has been there since the 1990s when …

Hello,Please forgive my ignorance but I am totally confused about Microsoft Flight. I must confess this mainly my ignorance but also due to confusion posts I have read.Is Flight a totally new sim or is it just a free download that is not for the "serious" simmers? Is it the case that you can only fly within a certain area and not worldwide? If it is a completely new sim , will you be able to run all the exisiting add-ons like PMDG?Thank youPaul

After posting my thoughts on my blog, word got out.... also onto Facebook where I spend most of my days nowadays.I had a brief encounter with Paul Lange, the man I see as the driving force behind MS Flight (he sure was behind theFSX Missions) and decided maybe someone here too is interested to get my views on what's happening........ or, in terms of flight SIMULATION on what is NOT happening. But should..... Find my blog post here. And as I already explained to Paul, this is not 'hate mail', just my opinion of what we as a flightsim community are missing....

I am not really sure why, but stupidity has always frustrated me. Okay I was trying to preserve some dignity; I should have said ' it angers me'. I know it is a flaw with me, not with those I perceive to be stupid. But I think I might not be alone with this flaw. Watching what MS is doing with Flight is like watching a car wreck about to happen. I would yell at the driver and tell him he is going on the wrong direction on the freeway, but he refuses to listen. After several attempt at trying to tell him to change course, my evil self tells him " Okay fine..You should get what you deserve" (how many of you are wishing for failure of Flight?). I have realized that m…

This isn't a debate about if flight is gonna be a good or bad game. This is a debate about the possible consolization of MS Flight, the merits of Microsoft flight being used for FAA training and the future of the aviation industry as a whole. From the get go, Microsoft flight doesn't feel like it's primary market is PC gamers. We already have FSX, X-plane, and a whole list of other flight simulators that are far better then 'Flight' and it's current offerings, and probably future offerings for that matter too. However on the console market these offerings are new and unavailable, making them more realistic for that market then our own. The Xbox 360 is well above the specif…

Here's why I say this:I've been flying Aerofly FS for about 3 weeks now (FSX is still my "go to" sim) and it's quite good. It's ONLY Switzerland. The flight models are beautiful, and the scenery is "so-so". It's fun for a diversion from FSX and the sounds are excellent. However, it is very easy to get a little bored with the limitations of Aerofly. There is no REAL weather, and you can't pick out any airport and necessarily be on the ground. Sometimes the only choice is to be "in the air" when you start. The flight models are beautifully rendered, but you are limited in your choices. Someday, they may expand the stable of airplanes, and the geography, but it's not…

If FLIGHT becomes a failure how will investing in DLC affect buyers?Even though Microsoft abandoned further FSX development the software is still alive (and well some will say) because of third party developers. But what if FLIGHT fails? Will buyers become stuck with Hawaii (and maybe a couple of other places) and a couple of aircraft?

Before I start,I will be downloading FLIGHT as soon as released, just to try it out, and see how it really is...Anyway, we all know that, if commercial interest is high enough, MS will try to turn FLIGHT into a Massively Multiplayer Online Game (MMOG). If MS does turn flight into a MMOG, (hopefully) thousands of new players will enter the game, and try to succeed in doing whatever FLIGHT's goal is (insert gold coin joke here). Of course, these new players will want to upgrade with new planes, instruments, etc.., the driving force for FLIGHT development. Now where do we, the hardcore simmers who spend hundreds, or even thousands of dollars for our hobby, come in?Well, ever…

This isn't a flame on MS, or the supporters of Flight or even the Naysayers but rather and idea I wish Microsoft would entertain. So please read the post before anyone roasts me :-DI was invited to the beta at the beginning of January. I stopped playing after a couple days because I realized that Flight was just going to be a GA only game. Its not that I don't like GA, I like to think I enjoy everything aviation has to offer. I'll even go further and say that I thought Flight was a very smoother running program with excellent characteristics. At first I was angry, now I'm dissapointed but a bit more understanding. They have stockholders they have to answer to and nee…

If you aren't familiar with Eve Online, it is a massive online space "sim" that many tens of thousands of people play. It it has a massive learning curve, but for those that spend the time learning and practicing, it has become an addiction. The passion for the game is akin to the passion for Flight Simulator. The developers of Eve Online weren't happy to just please their many fans, they wanted more people and more money. So they decided if they dumbed the game down and added additional features like eye-candy and pointless game elements that it would attract new uses. Additionally, the developers decided to add an online store element to the game-- DLC.Guess how it …
