Just discovered this video and thought it would be a good break from Flight. Its from a show done in 1990, and they showcase FS4, and just about every other flight simulator of the time. When the 386 was a state of the art computer. For the more youthful, take notice that store shelves used to be fully stocked with many simulators once upon a time.

To make FLIGHT the simulator of choice. It looks like FLIGHT will be good news for those of us who like the slow and low stuff. But what does it need to become to get everyone to leave the legacy sims behind? I would suggest the following: Lots of high detail areas ideal for GA flying (outside of Hawaii). Lots of high detail small and large airports (outside of Hawaii). Airport operations, AI vehicles, AI passengers. Detailed aircraft, GA, helicopter and jetliner, at least equal to anything currently available for FSX. An improved ATC. An improved AI Real time weather. Road traffic. Rail traffic. Sims within Sims. Merge land based transport with air transport. Airport ope…

My wife asked if I was going to play the Flight game, and when I said "no", she half jokingly said "oh good, now you can stop upgrading your computer!". Unless something replaces FSX, which is probably the pinnacle of the flight sim series, then she is mostly right. I have an overclocked i7 that is running everything well, and have no need or desire to upgrade to Windows 8 (unless it is revolutionary in context to gaming) or new video cards, etc. I pretty much have all the games I will ever desire (DCS A10, Falcon 4 BMS, etc)... and with the exception of the next DCS series simulator, I don't see anything else in the pipeline for the next two-three years. Just wonderi…

There is a very short list of folks that know EXACTLY what Microsoft's immediate plans are for FLIGHT. I am not one of them, and neither is anyone here posting about its future. I have seen the product as have dozens, if not hundreds, of BETA testers. I know no more about MS' future plans, intentions with FLIGHT, or other prognostications than anyone NOT in the inner circle does. Anyone here who is posting opinion as FACT is blowing it out there posterior regions. Those that DO KNOW would no more post what they know here if they wish to continue being employed. What I see here is a number of 'poison dwarfs'. People who no matter the reality are going to turn things into t…

since the release from MS about flight there has been 1000's of comments, some are very favorable, some have a wait and see approach, and some already hate the idea of this. So Microsoft if you read these forums ( and i bet you do ) how can you make this a win-win situation for both your company and the consumer. Make Flight and make it anything you want it to be- open or closed format for add on's, simulator or more game, backward compatible or not.but at the same time release a 3rd service pack for FSX adding the things that were going to be the next version of flight simulator. we all know that Microsoft was working on FS Next and it was scrapped but i for one don't …

Let's not turn this into another Flight bashing thread. I understand that we are comparing apples and oranges, but I am curious to know what sort of technical improvements can we expect from Flight. For example, does Flight have 3D clouds? Cloud shadows? Light reflection on water? Different dawn/day/dusk skies? VC rain drops? What do we conclusively know so far?

I opted to buy the xbox to play Tiger Woods PGA Golf 12 on it for two reasons, the online game that EA had was in a fast decline, the online arena is slow to develop, they finally now got smart and put the Tiger Woods PGA 13 on the Xbox also with Kinect Engine.I also have the highly sucessful Forza 4 Racing games which was developed by Turn 10 Studios along with Microsoft Studios, looks like they should learn from how well this game is going. As a note Forza 4 has a much more releastic DLC model than MS Flight will have. For instance Forza 4 offered a Season pass where we got 10 new cars per month for 6 months for 29.99, about 5.00 per DLC that is about .50 cents per car.…

Does anyone know how DLC works? I'm used to having disks to reinstall in case something goes wrong with the computer either from a botched up install or the computer breaks or a computer upgrade. If I need to reinstall the DLC after, say a year of ownership, would I be able to re-download the already purchased item for free or would I have to pay for it all over again. I'm not used to DLC and am kind of leary of it until I'm able to answer those questions.

Dear MS Flight team, I hope you get to read this.I am sure most Flight Simulator fans are looking forward to the release of MS Flight, and that over time the staunchest of critics will also enjoy the new experience envisioned by your team. Recent interviews with your development team spokesperson indicated that Flight may not allow for intercontinental flight, or for people to fly in their local area of residence/operation.The current alternative Microsoft product, aka FSX, still offers a great simulation experience for beginner, intermediate and advanced "flight simmers". Whereas the focus of Flight has been to provide great performance on current average PC hardware, FS…

Hi chaps,Based on the, uh, videos you've seen on youtube:1) what hardware can be connected up. I understand yokes and pedals should be no problem. Are other joystick buttons mappable to fuctions (gear, flaps, etc)?2) no track IR for now? But maybe later?3) how's the 'shimmer' on a big monitor? This is my biggest problem with FsX - buildings and autogen look fake due to this effect. It's fine on a computer monitor but on the big LCD TV I'm using it's horrible. Have they fixed this problem in the graphics engine?4) I'm sure goflight and vriinsight gear doesn't work - but please tell me I'm wrong.5) and just checking - other than geographical, are their any limitations on fr…

Beware of what you have to say on the official MS Facebook fan page ( http://www.facebook.com/#!/msflight )If what you say isn't positive, they will delete your comment and block you from posting. So, unless you have something good to say, don't waste your time.I posted a comment to their claim that they have "resurrected" this title. I disagree; FLIGHT is not a resurrection of Flight Simulator, FS never died, they aren't resurrecting anything. So because I said that, they deleted the comment and now I can no longer post any comments. Thats a hellova way to treat their beta testers. As long as we express "their" viewpoint, then I guess its okay.

I'm hoping to see a more GPU based program in Flight, with better video cards, not just whole computers needed to up performance. Currently, FSX with Acceleration on my computer uses only 50% of my GPU on max settings...Is there any way I can make it use more? What else besides GPU should I upgrade?Specs: Windows 7 64-bit, 2 GB DDR3 (About to upgrade to 4GB- will that help?) AMD Athlon x2 2.8 GHz, Nvidia GeForce GT 430 1GBI'm getting 15 FPS on max setings FSX Acceleration...but only 50% GPU usage?? Any thoughts on how this will fare with Flight?

I remember a certain company after releasing a nitch product called the MD11 and from that abandoned all future development for the FS2k4 environment stating FS2k4's market was all but dead (I say 'nitch' because more people clearly wanted an updated 737NG versus an MD11 which is a great product in it's own right). Along comes iFly who's sales of their 737NG was phenomenal for FS2k4. Not only did they sell well for FS2k4 but turned around and did well in the FSX world until PMDG released their version. Now is Flight Microsoft's excuse for Flight Simulator? Something clearly prompted them to give it another try. I remember the outcry from all corners of the world when man…

Flight has taken a lot of flak since it's announcement.I understand why.my intention is to download it and see what it's all about over the coming year.there has been disappointment with every new version since FS1.expectations are always very high.now i could be very wrong .but i intend to give Flight a chance.these MS guys are not stupid people.I want to see what happens and how it evolves over a year or so.At the same time continuing to use FSX and still purchase addons for it.from companies like PMDG,Aerosoft,GEX,REX,FSDT and all the other fantastic developers out there.I'm expecting some flak but there are people who still have both FS9 and FSX on there rigs.steve-0

I realise that we will most likely be reporting bugs and issues with Flight here in these forums, but I am wondering if Microsoft will have any specific and robust mechanism in place for reporting these things? In my experience this has always been a weak point with Microsoft.I don't really play that many games, but in recent times I have been incredibly impressed with the developers of the new FPS game Hard Reset. There, on the Steam forums there is direct contact with the developers and they have already brought out several patches even for incredibly rare and obscure bugs. For Flight though, I think it might be different this time around than it was with FSX. Back then …

Guys i read this and couldnt catch my breath. This one one of the questions asked to him.Q: It seems like the tradeoff you made - building richer, smaller locales to explore in the game - is the loss of the full, open world that could be explored in "Flight Simulator"?and here is his answer. (iv underlined the bit thats ###### me off (sorry for the swearing) us simmers are just a small segment grrrrrrrrA: The bet we've made is that to the non-hardcore simmer, flying the whole world isn't as interesting when there's nothing really interesting to see or do. I do get that for some segment of the audience that was one of the values - I can fly anywhere, into any airport, 25,00…

I, and many others, come to the Avsim forum for enjoyment, to share our enthusiasm over a common hobby, for fun. I am sure that is the reason you started all of this in the first place.Unfortunately, there are many different types of people in the world, and not all get pleasure from being positive, from finding the good things in life, from fun. Many of them, far too many, get their enjoyment from being rude, making hateful remarks, ruining it for those of us who want to have fun in a positive and agreeable way. They bring negativity and hate into the community, all under the banner of free speech and their right to present the opposite point of view.I certainly don't ad…

Instead of chasing coins or gold, or just buzzing around an island, if Flight had "careers" and missions for those careers I would have spent all the money on DLC that MS could kick out the door. I know FSX and Flight have some of these elements, but they are basic and have not been fully fleshed out. For example, picture one of your careers as an Alaskan bush pilot trying to build your small company (like that Alaskan pilot show on TV). Missions could range from hauling mail to picking up skiers, and collecting money along the way to upgrade plane's or capabilities. DLC would include new missions and corresponding scenery packs (like new bases for your company). For M…

Yes, I’m back, but just to deliver some data for you folks to interpret. I was lucky enough to have a few minutes at the end of class today with my 8th graders because they finished their World War I test in good time. So, in the spur of the moment, I decided to conduct an informal survey of students who identified themselves as game players and who volunteered to answer my questions. I found a video online of the game sequence of Flight and showed it to the students on my SmartBoard. I also asked several questions about their reaction, off the cuff in my first class with answers on scrap paper, and then on a printed questionnaire in my other 8th grade classes. I’ll …

Hi,I am curious to hear feedback from those people such as myself who are enthusiastic supporters of Flight. What do you think of the announced prices for the DLC?Personally, the prices are a little bit higher than what I was hoping for, however this won't influence my purchasing - if I want the add-on I'll buy it anyway. But for the prices as published, I would expect the quality and level of detail to be consistent with that of the base product. This being the case, I will be quite happy to sink several hundreds of dollars into the game if it means having a number of small specialised scenery areas made to the exact same quality standards as Hawaii.

So, we know we'll have additional Hawaii scenery, a couple more planes, and a few missions, and aerocaches for release day. . .what do you think is in the pipeline for near future DLC?------------For planes, I think they will do progressively higher peformance planes. Taking into account the Flight seems to be a "beginner" platform and the nature of DLC, I'd think they'll go with each new plane being a little faster, a little more complex with each plane released. I also think along those lines, they'll do maybe a trio of planes with each step up in performance: One GA, one bush style, one commuter/commercial style. Maybe a 4th into the mix being military. With each …

All those posters who are dissatisfied with flight could get together and: Write an agreed specification for what the flight simulator they want Prepare a fully costed and resourced plan to develop, test, and market it Invest their own money in it, or prepare a business plan and persuade others to invest Commission a software house, a PR/marking firm etc to implement the plan and develop the new simulator Surely it would sell so well that they couldn’t lose money on it?

I see growing support in favor for "Flight" by the community. I know business is business, but does anyone else feel like embracing a product by a new team that was put together as the result of the ACES team being thrown out like trash at MS not feel like it's a betrayal?? The ACES team fell on a sword for it's fan repeatedly because they sought to implement all our of requests and features-- which caused a rift with management.
