Microsoft FLIGHT Archive

You will find here messages posted leading up to the launch of MS FLIGHT on February 29th, 2012. This forum was shutdown 14 days prior to the FLIGHT launch. This is a closed sub-forum and as you read this archive, you will quickly understand why.

Maybe they will drip feed some more fuel to fill a few more gigs of forum space. :( Preferably a sim event, so the info doesn't get diluted with other 'Games'

I have just one request/suggestion in regards to Microsoft Flight (or any other new sim). Please improve The AI Engine significantly and/or give third party devs full documented access to the sim to allow them to do the same.BTW, since we're talking about a flight simulator, this relates only to flying AI. And I'm not talking about birds here... Just though I'd make that clear...:(

If you look at the backdrop it really looks like a screenshot - and a very nice one. But where in the world is it - you can see a runway through the clouds.Check it out:Anyone who can see where it is?

  4. I'd like to start a very positive thread with high hopes for Flight! after more thought. If Patty Wagstaff is on board, Orbix might have a hand in this thing, and the game eliments are only optional for users this could be great. If we look at history in the FS world an outstanding version of FS followed a disasterous release. Looking at the timing of this sim compared to when Aces was shut down the only way this thing could be in an alpha state is if development of FS11 never stopped. Only the named studio was shut down. What if this thing is what we've all been waiting for. What if Microsoft deep down didn't want to leave the FS franchise on a sour note as it took F…

What modeling program? --------------------------------------------------------------------------------As a developer, to me the most nagging question at this time is this:What modeling program will the new MS Flight title use?By now everyone who doesn't live under a rock and use a tin-can-and-string for communications should know that MS/ACES had to practically BEG Autodesk for a limited license to write the export module "one more time" for FSX.So, will MS Games Studio have someone create an asset-creation program, or will we be limited only to a professional (not to mention expensive!) current version of Max?Alternatively, might they choose to allow other free and/or i…

As one would expect, the announcement of Flight has caused quite a stir. It is fun to watch the wishing and guessing and all the excitement. Already a few people are writting off the program and we don't yet even know what it is. We already have many trying to tell Microsoft how to run their business. We as a community have to realize that no matter how good our ideas might be, we will in the end have very little to say about the final product. In fact I would guess that the product to be released is already pretty much in concrete. What I would hope is that the Mod's of AVSIM will make an effort to see that we don't get into the habit of bashing and name calling towards M…

  7. Started by dighost,

It seems like the probability of a new flight simulator being developed is becoming more and more of a pipedream. When Aces was initially closed, there was a flury of "companies" stepping forward that they would develop a new simulator. There was hope with Cascade Foundry, but they have made it clear (and based on what they are developing) that they are working on travel simulators. Aerosoft seems aloof about it's new supposed simulator so who knows about them... X-Plane was supposed to be the go to program, but until Austin makes it more user friendly, that won't happen. So what is left???Some people say that FSX is fine and will be great for years to come. I don't k…

Since "Games for Windows LIVE" is where the next simulator is based from, I thought I'd sign up to take a look around. When you do so, you get to download a puzzle game for free. Anyway, you certainly must be online to play the game; in fact, there's no other way to activate it until you've signed in with your password and hit the play button. Thinking ahead, it may be impossible to tweak settings in "Flight" if all the texture and sound files remain on a MS server. Maybe that won't be the case, where files could be downloaded to your hard drive, but access to the sim itself to run it all is through the internet. I love to tweak sound files to my personal liking, and…
