Microsoft FLIGHT Archive

  1. Started by wingclip,

I have to say that I've been watching this forum, (this topic), and even Googled in search of this "New" Simulator every week since I read that this new 'Flight' sim was on the horizon. I don't know if I'm using the right search methods, (wording, and engines), because the only thing I have ever found on the subject of Microsoft "Flight" was dated back quite a while ago. I don't remember the exact date but I want to say that it was something like late 2007 or 2008.It was the ad with a biplane in it and I may have seen 2 or 3 variations of the same ad. So my question is; Does anyone really know when this "Flight" sim is going to come out? Or how about any additional web in…

Hey Guys,Seeing as "My Two Cents" was already taken, I thought I would go with what was trending and continue with what I thought about 'Flight' and my opinions towards it.Right where to begin,Performance Firstly I feel that if Microsoft want to regain that former glory that Flight Simulator once had, (not a two way split between two simulator platforms, such as FS2004 users and FSX users) that they really need to address the performance of the new simulator/game head on. My thought towards this is that they will make use of better hyper-threading technology, offput a decent about of performance onto the GPU and allow users a greater degree of advanced options within the…

This might already be on the drawing boards, but after playing with my grandsons xbox360 Kintect that he got for Christmas, why couldn't we start a new design of using the Xbox360 or the new generations of xboxes that will be produced in the future...I was reading someplace that computers as we know them today will be dinosaurs in 10 years...Can't even find good software anymore for the computer...You go into Walmart or Target and even Fry's looking for flight simulator items, and the space is down to 4 feet or less. But, on the other hand half the wall is devoted to various game boxes...Of course, you have your overseas downloaded software which in transfer of funds by m…

i don't know if this was already mentioned but, has anyone noticed the God rays in the begining of "Webisode 1"?To be honest, I did not notice it until just now when I had to reinsall "silverlight" and ran #1 to test it.

What we want, need and get are completely different things. Many have chipped in on these forums to tell us and Microsoft what they'd like to see improved in Flight over FSX. But realistically, Flight won't sell good enough for MIcrosoft to invest too much money in its development. Compromises will be made. The good and bad with the current sim (FSX) is that it is so many things to so many different people. It's a simulator, game, screenshot and video maker tool, virtual travel tool, aeronautical and architectural design showcase etc. But what compromises would you be willing to make to get the best flight sim for YOUR needs?I'd live with the following compromises:1) Remo…

Since Flight may be a complete rewrite but might also be an upgrade to the existing code, I thought it would be a good idea to compile a list of faults in FSX that we do not want to see appear in Flight. This is not a wishlist for new features, there's another post for that, It's about highlighting the existing problems in case the devs are reading this forum and they can make sure they do not happen anymore.I'll get the ball rolling with a couple of faults that bug me.1. Diagonal tear line on 2d panels for PC owner with ATI graphics cards.2. Jetways that do not line up correctly and sink into the ground.Let's see what else we can come up with.Ed.

I know nothing specific about Microsoft Flight, but here is what I think it will be.1. It will use the Unreal 3 engine.2. It will be ported to XBox, the ground detail will be stunning, as in any modern FPS, but it won't contain the world, just 1 or two states of very high detail.3. Additional scenery will be in the XBox Live Marketplace.4. It will be simple, it will not be compatible with FSX, and it will be more a game than a simulator.5.Microsoft will not allow third-party developers. In other words, Nintendo Pilot with Kinnect input.Again, just my opinion, but I usually get Microsoft fairly well. What do you think?

  9. Today, I had the chance to take a look at the new screenshots posted in the MS Flight website, and I have to say that I was impressed with the work that MS has put with the default terrain and water textures, these screenshots shows an improvement over FSX but still some addons can make the default FSX textures look as good as in these MS Flight screenshots. Now, what I am worried about is that MS has not released details on the system specs that a computer needs to decently run Flight. Based on previous releases of Flight Simulator, I think that the system requirements for MS Flight will be the following: Processor: 2.3+ Ghz (Dual Core) Memory: 1.5 GB of Ram HDD: 25GB V…

Something I have recently noticed and has never bothered me till now is what i guess APU or some sort of engine sound after my aircraft has completely shut down. The aircraft in particular is the Alphasim B-1B. If anyone could help please let me know. If this is posted else where please provide a link.

I wonder what improvements will be made to the on-board ATC in MS Flight as compared to FSX. I would suspect that with 5 years between the release of the two versions, there should be quite a lot of improvements, specifically in the area of realistic procedures. And, as a current user of RC4, a big question for me is, will RC5 be compatible with MS Flight? I would guess that the RC developers are highly interested in seeing what MS Flight ATC will encompass.

Since I am commenting on an almost 2 year old blog post, this may have been referenced long ago ... but since I have seen some recent comments regarding concern on performance, I thought that it was a worthy post. Please give it a read and give comments. Why FSX has Rough Performance.Regards,Owen

everyone is posting wishlitsts and all kinds of crap, but to be honest, fsx is good, besides its limitations.the game itself has many flaws, but 3rd party add ons make it a lot better.so the only thing we need, is more ground for the add on developers to work. we currently have MANY limitations on the add on creation, specially when it comes to military aircraft (its incredible what vrs been doing). we only need it to be more and more customizable. we need it to support more interaction, lets say, one aircraft with another, so we could see other aircrafts custom animations, interact with them, etc. or even interatcion with everything, like ground crew. so we could animate…

I know, I know it's very early but these types of threads are so much fun to discuss and read so I couldn't refuse. Without a doubt the press release created a massive buzz within the community with regards to the newest version of the franchise from Microsoft. I'd like to hear your thoughts on what would you like improved in the new release, it'd be nice to hear from the users that are on top of the hardware game to hear what is actually acheivable on today's hardware.

  16. Hey all,The January set looks real nice since I dont buy many add-on products. So for me Flight > FSX.My gut is telling me they want to drive most of us online to fly. Thats not a bad thing but I'd still like some me time.Has anyone heard if there will still be AI aircraft for offline flying? Also, I hope they don't remove the jetways. Those were one of the biggest improvments made in the last edition. Sitting at the gate in my 737 I felt like I was at a real airport and boarding passangers. One last thing, any news if they plan to keep moving cars on the highways? It would be nice if they included VATSIM into the online service. This way new pilots could learn a TON abo…

  17. First let's take a step back. If you have flown recently FS9 on any of the newest rigs you know that it absolutely screams. This is especially true if you first ran FS9 on the rig that you had 8 years ago vs a new high end Duo Core, i7 or Sandy Bridge. Now, compare that to Windows XP. The performance of both FS9 and XP are almost linear. The vast majority of Win-tel computers are STILL running XP because the performance is still good and many hard core gamers still swear by it.Next, Windows Vista. There can be no argument that Windows Vista was an absolute disaster for Microsoft because of the poor performance vs. Windows XP. Moving on to Vista added a few features…

Because I am no spring chicken, and have been around the block a bit, I am getting concerned. When a company has a dynamite new product, with a high expectation of acceptance, they generally can't wait to tell the world at least a little about what they are planning to do.Here, in Flight, we have zero. nada.... nothing.... and that is alarming. What that does, is tell me there is change, and an acceptance issue is looming. And that also tells me, as a fairly avid FS guy, not to get too excited.....I say that simply because they don't appear to be.Bob - Las Cruces, NM

Simmers, Developers:As to what to expect from a potential MS Flight Marketplace, here's a guide (please scale down as appropriate for flightsim):Apple download store hit 10 billion downloads, with 7 billion apps in its last year alone! (It did in 31 months what it took the iTunes Music Store nearly 10 years to achieve).Says Apple: "The App Store has revolutionized how software is created, distributed, discovered and sold."Cheers,- jahman.

I hope Flight devs are looking at their competition. XPlane guys have finally thought about terrain detailing, and what they did is amazing. They are automatically placing houses along vector generated roads, and it looks gorgeous. In FSX with UTXE small vector roads removed almost all autogen buildings. I hope Flight devs will do something about it, and hopefully they will change the way cities are generated. Placing generic city texture with 3d objects scattered around doesn't work anymore.Compare these shots with FS9/FSX...http://www.x-plane.com/pg_news.html

From FS2004 to FSX missions were greatly improved. Some of them were close to fun, but still lacking compared to state of the art games. Missions have by far the greatest potential to make MS Flight a success. Free flight is first and foremost a feature suited for hard core simulator fans. To reach a broader audience some kind of immersive and addictive gameplay is needed. So how could missions be improved? First and foremost the quality of artificial intelligence (AI), animation and voice overs needs to be improved. Then the focus needs to be on creating a believable and entertaining story to frame the mission. Missions should be sorted into several categories, as stand …
