I've been reading lots of bickering, entertaining at times, and actually feeling some of the anger with regards to MS Flight and its incomplete, yet eminent release. How can I be excited about a new sim that is really NOT a sim?How can I support a company that fired it's old team, then told us that there would NOT be another sim?How can I consider buying a toy software from a company that never cared enough to fix FSX?HOW?They can't possibly think I'm going to fall for it again.

  2. Yes folks, this forum will be 1 year old on the 19th and the new baby is arriving on the 29th.Why is this so important you might ask !Well, A new baby needs lots of TLC and it would be nice and appreciated if the "angry mob" were NOT to disturb its sleep pattern.Tom will be looking after the initial 4 hour feeds and any dirty nappies will be sent to the relevant forums for disposal......so Thread lightly and if you must Post, please slip it under the door. ( it makes less noise. )The baby comes from Royal stock so it's throne has already been established. (Any third parties wishing to go to the christening can only do so on invitation.)So watch this space folks !!........…

MS Flight's artificial horizon is flawed. Note in the recent news of Feb 6, www.microsoft.com/games/flight/#news-flight_launchlook at the video picture and see that outer dial markings of the horizon are tilted along with the inside gyro ball. On a real horizon the outside markings are fixed and do not rotate! Only the inside gyro rotates! If this bothers you too, send a message to [email protected].

Hi guys, I'm one of the oddballs who enjoys flying low and slow over cool scenery rather than the technical aspects of aviation, so I'm pretty interested / excited by Flight. I regularily play Rise of Flight, and once all the bogeys are down I often spend as much time following a river upstream admiring the farms and villages and buzzing a train here and there. However, I'm a little concerned by a post which alluded to the lack of TrackIr support.. has this been substantiated? I know the videos are all about letting the first-timer play with just a mouse, but I figure if you do have a cockpit and presumably can mouse around in there (although selling the Mustang without…

This will probably be a short thread, but I'm curious about this, from those who may know....Will Flight support my beloved Microsoft FF2 joystick?Stan

  6. I think that after a few minutes zoommmming around Hawaill with our mouse B) we will all begin to realize just how great FSX is. You may not like MS or their new game but we do have to give credit to their marketing department. They could have signed off on spending Millions on developement for FS11 but some really smart guy said...Wait!! Lets just spend a couple hundred thousand on a game this is so bad these idiots will realize how good FSX really is and not only will they finally shut up but we can find enough dumb kids to buy a few useless addons and Bingo!! we get our money back. Now friends we can disagree about a lot of things but let's do give a thumbs up to marke…

HelloI have spent some more time this evening flying around in Flight!, trying out a few challenges, hunting down a few aerocaches, just the normal type of thing the Flight! guys get up to.My take on this is:If MS had sold the idea of this project as an offshoot of the FSX franchise talking it up as an updated Flight unlimited I & II, a sim that even the most hardcore around here remember fondly, they could have saved themselves from a lot of the negativity we see posted.Even better if they backported some of the improvents in efficency into an FSX SP3, just wins all around for us.Because that is what this is, a modern day Flight Unlimited I & II, no threat to FS…

You (know who you are) bash MSFT and Flight (sometimes rightfully so) and now the vitriol is directed at people who are only trying to have polite and open discussions about the product. The people who hate Flight and MSFT have made their points well known. Why do you insist on trolling the topics that are trying to discuss the product. Why are you still reading and posting in this forum and insulting new members because they don't have 2000+ posts. I would guess that most of the members at AVSIM are adults. yet, you guys are acting no better then the 13 year olds trolling the forums on other game sites (ie. World of Warcraft)And before you insult me yes I have played WOW…

We'd all like to see this happen - the stars of the FSX community working with MS to make Flight a sim we want to fly. With the release date of 29th Feb announced, I'm looking forward to giving this a good try out. I'm looking at this as a GA simulator. I've got no plans to fly coins missions or such. So my question is: of the third party devs - who's definitely not doing this, and who might still be in the game?PMDG are not developing for it - and it would make little sense at present, though I would be happy flying the NGX through the Hawaian isalnd chain.Orbx are definitely not. MS seem to be taking an orbx-like approach of covering small areas in high detail. I can see…

Actually yes, it is.The year - 1986. Flight Simulator 2 on my old C64. FS2 had a 'WW1' mode that was about as good as the vector-graphics arcade game 'Red Baron' by Atari. I found FS2 in the 'Games' section of the local computer store. The same year - the first game I bought for our new disk drive was Solo Flight 2 by Microprose. It was nowhere near the realism (!) of FS2, but it had a rather engrossing mail-delivery game. You had a schedule you had to keep, fuel & payloads to manage, and changeable weather. OK, primitive changeable weather, but it was fun. It also had synthesized voice ATC & instructor - extraordinary in only 64K RAM! The point: Solo Flight was eq…

  14. OK - There are a small group of people here who are anxious and excited for the release of Flight. We can't wait to give it a spin, buy some extra stuff for it, do the missions, and otherwise play, explore, test, and all that good stuff. For us, it'll be a lot of fun. You're right - it's just a dumb carplane game that no serious desktop pilot would ever allow near their hard drive - luckily for us, we are not that group. We're happy to have what Flight is now and we're going along for the ride and we'll hopefully get to use this forum to talk about it.It's not FSX. It has no jets, no ATC, no VATSIM, no Qartar airport, no 'real' weather, no AI, no 3PD add-ons, no Trac…

May I say a word or two, please?I have read a significant number of threads in the Flight forum here and what I conclude is that there is considerable dissatisfaction, to say the least, about this forthcoming product. Has anyone has anything in the slightest positive to say?I am a MSFS user of considerable vintage. I started some 30 years ago when Version 1 of FS hit the shelves. In those days the sim was more or less just wire frames and dotted lines but I, and many others, enjoyed it because, at last, we could go flying. Never in my wildest dreams did I ever visualise a flight sim of today’s reality and complexity.Instead of criticizing, whining and generally rubbis…

  16. Why would they keep anything running that competes with their existing product, especially when their existing product sells episodic content and can't compete on merit. Those of you saying "Well I can still stay on FSX" will be forced to choose between violating copyright law (even though you own the product) or going back to FS2004....that is until Windows 8 or 9 kills off the ability to run FS2004. Did you know that Microsoft is planning to make secure boot mandatory for windows certification - this is a feature that means only a digitally signed OS can run on your own hardware and that means Linux and other OS won't install on your latest machine. The only software yo…

  18. Being back on Avsim for a bit has been a real 'experience'..... some things never change, obviously. But, alas, fun is over and there is work to do, a 'fortune to make' (!!) so it is back to the grunt work on FSX.Pity, this was fun, but I cannot keep up with all the posts, pro and con, at this rate.Wishing all the Gamers and Simmers here good luck and much enjoyment with their respective hobbies and my fellow developers lots of success and good luck going forward.Cheerio for now :(

At the risk of starting another string of "Microsoft hates us" posts, what sort of downloadable content are YOU interested in, and also which do you feel will be most desirable by new "members of the flock"?This all assumes, of course, happiness with the initial download of MSFlight and reasonably priced DLC. I'm primarily a VFR type of guy, so I would be happy purchasing the rest of the islands and just putzing around for a while. I think that people who are enticed by their initial taste of computer aviation would perhaps be interested in different planes - for me, when I started, it wasn't so much what I was flying over, it was WHAT I was flying. So - please share you…

On Webisode 7 at 3:21, Kirk Hawkins, Founder and CEO, ICON Aircraft says: There you have it, MS Flight is not about operating an airplane.Oh, and he did say Microsoft Flight Simulator! :LMAO:The mistake of course is a serious one and goes to the core of the appeal of simming.Simming is everything about operating an airplane, because operating an airplane is the psychological link between you and flying. If you don't operate an airplane you are just a passenger (or as Amelia Earhart aptly put it, "a sack o' potatoes", and she refused to continue flying unless she was put behind the controls). The thrill of flying happens when you're at the controls of the aircraft and y…

I was telling a buddy about Flight last night. Then he asked what was so fun about flying around and if there were bombs you could drop or people to shoot at, etc. Sigh....But it got me to thinking. Has society lost interest in flight? In the old days people used to get excited and dress up when they went to the airport. Now people show up like they just dragged themselves out of bed. Ask someone what kind of airplane they are boarding and 90% probably couldn't tell you, or could care less. It's not even just air travel, it's the wonder of flight that seems to have been lost. I was at an art show which lay beneath the flight path of a busy executive airport. A T…

  24. I am a GA pilot. However, all non enthusiast people that I know of are interested in large jet aircraft. To them flying a Cessna is slow, boring and dinky. Just go to commercial airports and see how many people are spotting the commercial jets getting excited at the roar of these jets. I still scratch my head at what MS was thinking when they decided to get average Joe interested in Flight with a Maul.

I remember reading somewhere someone saying MS Flight doesn't support Track IR 'out of the box'. Is that true? I always said I won't fly in FSX without Track IR... Now of course I will try MS Flight even if it doesn't support Track IR, but it would be a big disappointment having to fly without it... It's almost something I can't imaging enjoying...!If it IS true and MS Flight doesn't support Track IR, my next question is: will the creators of Track IR be able to make it work with MS Flight without an SDK...? (I haven't got the faintest clue how these things work, so I beg your pardon if this is a stupid question. :( )
