Now that we have so much room to explore, how about a topic devoted to great flights you'd recommend others try?

Ok, I finally figured out how to control the Maule's rudder trim from the keyboard or joystick buttons rather than having to use the mouse over the VC knob...Edit the standard.XML file (located at %localappdata%MicrosoftFlightPlayersletters&numbersCareerControlsstandard.xml), AFTER making a backup copy of your original file, so you can restore it if anything goes wrong.Add these lines into the appropriate section for your keyboard or joystick. You can map those keys to some other function in the game to help you identify the correct location and button name. <Entry> <Key>VK_RIGHT</Key> <Down> <EventName>FlightControls.YawTrimRightIn…

I apologize in advance if this turns out to be one of them. I did quite a bit of research before deciding to ask without being able to find anything and would appreciate input from someone experienced I was looking for a way to pull up a chart in MS Flight to find out the altitude of airports I'm approaching because when I don't know how far it is to the deck, I'm guaranteed to make a crater. As I was looking for answers I started to wonder why nobody else seemes concerned with this. So, my question is: Should I even be particularly concerned with knowing this, or should a proper approach and lineup with the runway yield enough visual cues to get the correct altitude …

For me the release of alaska was the last chance I was willing to give it. No cockpits, sloppy airfield placement, no missions, no aerocaches and no proper snow effects have sealed flight's fate to be nothing more than a casual naked money grab from Microsoft. Flight is gone from my computer for good (Well at least until an aircraft with a working VC is delivered which at the current rate will be.... yeah; for good!)

Some users will have noticed that performance degrades with Alaska, particularly in densely-wooded forests and in Anchorage. Please note that this is not due to anything in Alaska that is different from Hawai'i. Rather, the last title update changed the way the target framerate is set. Here is the explanation from a member of the MGS team: From our tests, Alaska performance tends to be the same as Hawaii. Of course mileage on different hardware may vary. The title update did change how we try to manage framerate when v-sync is on, and depending on your system, this can make things better or worse. Previously we only measured CPU frame time when trying to s…

It's terrible we have to resort to this but I'm actually tolerating the Cub by scrolling back into the external model's cockpit. It's free so I thought I'd try it (the flight model is quite nice leaving the 'Basic' model a slap in the face to everyone who created other aspects of this plane). Now I'm wondering how all the other other models look from this vantage point. Could some kind soul post screenshots of the other 'Basic' model's cockpit view? I'm just trying to see how this workaround looks in all the other models. Thanks in advance to anyone that can post some shots. If possible can I get some side shots to get a feel how the wings look in the models as well…

I've gotten so many tips here, finally I may be able to help out others. This challenge nearly defeated me over the past week--then I used my head and figured out that one probably can't ever hit every hoop, just to many and too much distance to travel in the alotted time. Finally realized that reds are essential, as are yellows, but trying for greens may be a waste of time. I found the Vans to work best for me, the Icon just too slow and faster planes too hard to control precisely (altho the menu illustration shows a Zero, I found it too twitchy and prone to accelerated stalls). So bear with me, don't know how to record and post a video, but here in words is a strate…

Hi, I was using ENBseries to add HDR to the game. But ever since I've downloaded the latest Flight patches and Alaska, it doesn't seem to work? I don't even see the little green letters that usually pop up in the upper left corner on game startup when the files are present. Has anyone been using the ENBseries after the latest patches? I really like HDR, it really helps punch the whites to feel like sun glare, and the sky feels much more like real sunlight.

I would make this a Poll if I knew how... My point is... Do you use/like the mouse control option in MS FLIGHT? I ask because: 1) While I have a Saitek x52 Pro and look forward for a good pair of Saitek Rudder pedals, I use the mouse control most of the time, unless I am up for aerobatics... 2) I have a pilot license and fly for real, and I never used that sort of input on other simulators, with the remarkable exception of Condor Soaring, where the mouse control option has been programmed very professionaly and is also my preferred way of controlling the gliders, specially during those long XCountry flights... The "mouse for flying" implementation in MS F…

One of those content empty threads I sometimes start here, just to share some emotions... MS FLIGHT is the 1st simulator that really can teach you to Fly! A few more of the excellent Challenges that came with Alaska, and I am completely convinced about that. A simmer who masters the various basic flight techniques in MS FLIGHT, even if using the "mouse as conntrol", and probably some of the more demanding bad weather challenges, will easily get flying the real thing!

I appear to have to throttle back to less than 20% in order to reduce speed in most of the MS Flight aircraft. Is this the norm?

I've been flying the RV a lot lately so for a change I decided to use the Maule once again (free flight so no load, 50% fuel). I selected Mixed weather and when I tried to take off I was blown off the runway, full rudder, full opposite aileron... I had no chance. Then I restarted the flight with the RV and took of without any problems (but quite some rudder). Is the RV so much heavier then the Maule...? Or is the Maule more sensitive to wind? Anyone else noticed that the Maule is harder to take off with a (heavy) crosswind then the RV?

I was surfing the flight sim sites last evening and stumbled across a wonderful parody evidently pinned by the main man at X-plane. I'm away from my PC for the morning but this is worth chasing down and someone posting a link. Look for an April date and MS nor Flight is never used but the article is spot on. Should our Mod elect not to let the forum read something really funny about MS and the introduction of Flight, I will try to find another method of posting. iPhones are tough on old fingers. Just start with xplane.com Ray http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/xplane-news/message/1747

When you take a job, and it says, say 770lbs, you go to the fuelling screen and it has a "payload 0.0lbs" on the fuelling bit. What gives? Was it always thus? I can't remember..it'd be nice to include your chosen payload in the visble calcs (I know I can work it out with a calculator and the MTOW)

Apears to be the only area under constuuction on all of Munivak Island. This strip is on the northern end of the island and there should be a town here also, guess it has not been built yet. It is the really big island located west of Toksook Bay (PAOO) How do you add comments above each picture uploaded, some of you do so well?

Well I have been signing into multiplayer sessions in Alaska and seeing no planes on the map, even though I am listed as sharing a session with other (apparently invisible) players. Well, I just tried the "view aircraft" command on one of those other players and found that they are in fact happily flying......... In Hawaii! Flight dutifully listed that player as being 2404nm away......... Interesting.

As many as they can throw at us.... After finally loading this scenery up and flying around the lower Fjords area this scenery is screaming for float planes. Planes that are bigger and have the ability to fly long distances. We need as many cabin areas as possible to populate this large baron area. We need moving AI ships and float planes to go along with our multiplayer sessions. Microsoft has to make this area come alive. My suggestion to them is look at: FSAddon's: FSCargo Misty Morings We need ATC for Alaska hands down in nothing more that to get the weather for the area. We need major airports in this scenery to have more than a default FS9 look. I wa…

The nice chilly winter sceneries in the Alaska pack are a nice change of scene here. I went for a bicycle ride but could not stay out, as it became harder than expected to catch my breath after climbibg small hills. So here I am in the chill of Alaska, at least the sight is refreshingly cooling Similarly, Hawaii pack was a sight for frozen eyes this past febuary...LOL

I know this has been mentioned before but this is even more of an issue with Alaska and the new mixed weather theme. The remote fields need not apply I'm only talking about moderately paved fields. Here we have a weather them that changes on the fly with no marker as to where the wind is blowing on the ground. I don't care to use the unrealistic HUD when a perfectly good sock at many of these fields would to the trick...

Taking a 5 minute break from the bumpiest ride I have ever had in a PC sim. Going from Anchorage to Fairbanks in the Maule, and I selected "Mixed Weather". I have not been able to hold a steady heading for more than 10 seconds since I took off. In the last 10 minutes, at 13,000 feet, I am getting up and down drafts over the mountains of sometimes as high as 2500 FPM. If I had passengers we would be looking for the Dramamine pills and hopefully finding some barf bags.. Got another 100 miles to go....Oh, and with the clouds, sometimes we are totally IFR for a mile or so. :bad:
