I finally made some time today to get PlanG installed, create flightplans, open in GMap, and fly a few of 'em up there in Alaska. Here are some photos showing my main 42" monitor, my 24" left side monitor (with PlanG and GMap), and my Toshiba Tablet with (FSX) GMap loaded, but not connected of course.,, Sorry about the contrast and poor lighting... Darn el-cheapo JVC pocket digital recorder/camera!

Hi, There's a new freeware version of GMap at FSWidgets. FS9 or FSX Flight Plans can now be loaded. I created an FSX flight plan that passes through all the airports available in FSX. Now, when the Flight map is not available this can be used as a crutch. Clicking on the airport shows the ICAO to identify it. Jim F.

Hey guys, i was just wondering if it's just me, because i don't really read much about this issue (well, it is to me): I love Flight and now with Alaska it has got even better, but it also makes my issue a little more obvious and more annoying. I'm talking about the difficulty of finding a good room with a good number of fellow pilots in the same region. When i press Quick game i have about 50% chance i do find one. Could be less. The other 50% or more i have to press the Leave game-button, because unlike what the game seems to be thinking, i haven't actually entered a room. The times that i do enter a room, it's mostly just 1 or 2 ppl there. And now with both…

I just spent an hour with Flight, and hardly even flew! I started out trying to bump my Gravel Bar landing challenge from silver to gold, then thought it would be fun to grab the Icon and try some river landings. On my first landing, I went down some rapids, and thought, hey, that was fun! I turned around and went back up, and back down again. I ended up going a long way down the river, and there are some pretty good rapids there. I had spray coming up over the cockpit and everything. When I have some more time, I'll follow it all the way to the ocean. Its starts out at 1400ft, so there is bound to be lots of rapids along the way. If you give it a shot, keep it …

Nice field. First time the copilot advised at 5 miles out. "This is a short field so maxamize runway and brake hard". Finally some useful information, so I over flew first to get a look and turn into the wind. Landed hard and stopped in the first 3rd of the "short" runway.

As I was happily surprised with the graphic quality of Hawaii, I discover that Alaska has it owns beautiful places. As it is a huge country, one has to search for them, but that's just the fun. Also the details of various objects are well made by the MStudio-team employees. Some examples are shown by other members, here some of me ...

I've just been practicing take off and landing in the Maule with extreme crosswinds. My problem in the past was often that the cross wind would push me off the runway on take off as the plane becomes 'light' on the ground. I've just realized how useful it is to mix in some ailerons in this situation. If lets say, full right rudder is not keeping you on the center line add full left ailerons and it can save you. Its let me get in and out of many airports that I just could not take off from in the past in a crosswind. The same can be used on landing if you cant keep it on the center line. Getting the timing wrong when you release the sticks can make it kick like, ermm…

Anyone interested in flying over the oil field rigs.....They can be located as follows.......Take off from Kenai Muni ( runway L1) and fly a heading of 300 degrees this will take you to the beginning of the oil field......I think there are about 10 rigs located there.....I had some great fun trying to land the Cub there....without success...LOL

Is anyone else experiencing theese problems? I have landed at 106 airports, according to stats, but the centi-explorer achievement isnt unlocked. I have landed at 20´000 feet, but the airborne mountaineer isnt unlocked. And the same procedure with the northern explorer achievement, no unlock.... The stats are updated and I have connection with Live .. but still no achievements... Am I the only one having theese problems, or are there others?

In the original thread I couldn't figure out how to attach images in reply. They are at ~14k ft. In the shot below I'm heading towards Denali at ~30 deg. The arrow is pointing to the approximate location of the tents. It is one of the basecamps used for those attempting to summit Denali. Compare it to the picture with the routes and labeled basecamps. This is an interesting tidbit from NOVA of the area - Fourteen Medical This camp, a small village of tents, will serve as our Advance Base Camp, set on a large plateau at just above 14,000 feet. All West Buttress expeditions use this camp for acclimatization and as a staging area for the upper moun…

Has anyone managed to overide the AA in Flight. I've many tried many combinations and it doesn't seem to make any difference. I have sharpness set on Maximum but still have noticable jaggies.

I recently got the free Red Tail. Despite it not having a cockpit it was OK. The only reason I got it is because it was free. I am an avid Corsair fan so I decided (after much internal turmoil) to purchase the cockpitless Corsair. As I feared I was disapointed. The soundpack (and it seems the flight dynamics) are identical to the Mustang. I went back and forth a few times and if there are differences they are slight. What are your thoughts? Thanks, Ron

With no aerocaches to play with, I have been wandering from up the south at Annette Island to the Anchorage area landing at each airstrip along the way. Once at Anchorage the high airport density makes the strategy a little obsolete. On the way, I have experienced some odd scenery bugs... some of them cause the screen to freeze as I pass through them or to make my system crash after passing through them. The first was a freeze as I was landing at one of the fields in lower Alaska. I forgot to write down the name of airport. As I was coming in on an easy approach to the runway, the game screen froze and I thought I would have to reboot and I took my hand off the…

I am so glad that MGS did not represent the passengers and that they left it all to our imagination. Case in point: I took Nervous Nelly out for a ride. Sure, you know her: "OK, alright, OK!" The flight seemed to be going fine, but all I had to go on was the passenger icon: Just for the heck of it, I decided to do some rolls in the Cub. Of course, the Cub doesn't have an inverted fuel supply so the engine often conks out. But, that wasn't the only problem. Nelly screamed, "Don't do that!" and the icon turned red. Then, a little later, the icon became a caduceus which is always bad news for your passenger satisfaction rating (I guess…

I ordered sectionals of Alaska for my Gmap program the other day, but mostly I am looking for airports, frequencies of VORs, runways, etc.. It is difficult to read these sometimes from a sectional on a small display. I decided to order the Nav data today for the entire World which is also $9.95 and find it much more useful for what I want. You can toggle on and off the displays you want on the moving map, airports, VORs, NDBs, Seaplane Airports, and if Flight gets one, Heliports. Check it out. http://fswidgets.com/shop/product_info.php?products_id=59

Seems as if there has been a significant breakthrough http://www.fswidgets...ewmode=threaded, just try switching the hud on, which should result in the aircraft heading icon in GMap to work correctly. Does it work for you? (sorry about the typo in the subject, can't seem to correct it but maybe J van E can)

Overall flight time is 26 hours...somehow I think this includes paused/crashed and waiting to rejoin time, which would be pretty substantial for me. Distance traveled 3092 nm (One trip from Hawaii to Alaska!...my average speed is a little lackluster, ha!) Hours backwards : 5 minutes 2 seconds. Consecutive spins : 10, haven't really tried going for this yet, looks fun. Crashes: 250... :( Flying outside planes, and gold rush is really a killer for this, it's hard to get reference points to the ground. Also when I discovered spot landing on buildings, dragging a wing on one wheel, waterskiing, and especially waterskiing on one wheel while dragging a wingtip,…

How do you play: More sim, less messing around, or more casually? How happy are you with it? As you can see from my stats thread, right now I play a little more casually, with a 360 controller. I don't come from FSX, but I have a lot of seat time in more serious auto racing sims. I found Flight because I have a TrackIR and wanted to try it out elsewhere. I'm not willing to put up with all the fuss of setting up FSX properly. I do have an interest in planes and flying, however, more seriously learning how to pay attention to instruments, checklists, and VOR/ILS basics are interesting to me. And I'd like to be able to use a controller that doesn't so eas…

In another topic RoboRay posted this: It made me wonder which season and what time of day everyone prefers. Maybe you like to use various conditions everytime? Or do you stick with one scenario? I usually do what RoboRay suggested: I mostly fly in Spring, most of the time with Low and threatening weather. I also usually click on Dawn or Dusk (depending on the direction I am flying: I like the sunlight to come from behind) and then I set the time 2 hours forward or backwards (towards noon) so it looks like daytime but I get those awesome shadows all over the place. (Even though dawn and dusk are awesome, flying with colored skies all the time gets a bit tireso…

I am seeing posts of many many Alaska airports. Unfortunately when I look at the map display I see maybe a dozen. I am running a 32 bit machine which I understands limits scenery density, but it also make my airports go away also??? Thanks for any help and fly on! Les

I am aware that some people were having a hard time getting gold on the Lost Lake STOL challenge in Alaska... I was one of them! I tried something a bit different and was able to get gold on my second try! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LRDFQojEPxo
