In the interest of spawning interesting discussion, I thought I would bring this up. Below is a link to an article regarding the pilot's use of the autobrake system during the crash. Southwest Airlines forbids the use of the system.http://www.suntimes.com/output/news/cst-nws-midway14.htmlTo me it sounds unlikely that this contributed to the incident, even if it was a violation of the airline's policy. I am interested in what the rest of you think. Also why would an airline establish a policy of forbidding the the of autobrakes? Does this make any sense to those of you who are RW airline pilots?Andrew

Earlier today I landed the Queen at WMKK 32R in a fairly heavy x-wind of 21 knots, gusting to 30-32 knots with "heavy" turbulence. Hand-flying, I found surprisingly that the turn to LOC and getting onto the GS at 3000' were the easy part but final approach was awful with manual throttle control all the way down. Although I landed without smashing up the a/c, it was heavy (-400 fpm) and almost a 3-point touchdown. My approach speed ranged Vref25+5 to Vref25+20 in the wind with gusts. On replay, I saw that all was actually fairly OK down to the last 50 vertical feet when I came down fairly hard for the TD about 2000 feet down the rwy.I had elected to approach at Vref25 …

Im having a bit of a problem loading a flightplan into the fmc of th queen ive had this since i purchased it not just since the update.firstly i am quite competent at using fmc and have all the relevant airac cycles and lots of .rte plans in the flightplan folder.Heres my problem i go to the RTE page and type in fajsfqma001 and press the relevent lsk next to co routeWhat happens is i get FAJS under ORIGIN,nothing under DEST and a msg FAJS err ANVOX UNKNOWN This happens with all flight plans not just this one and also it works just fine in the 737NG fmc,i was just wondering if im doing something wrong.Although its not life and death here it would be good to sort it.THANKSP…

Captains-I am restarting this thread to add a bit of information that we have gleaned the past few weeks, as the other thread was so full of "stuff" that it was hard to make heads-or-tails of it.The following post might help a few of you with discoveries that we made during the course of our efforts. Hi there, I got the 747 (If I remember correctly) at the time it was released ..so I probably still have the first version. I have not flown it since then either...But I tried to use it today... and the 747 doesn't load anymore. If I load the default cessna and then I tried to load the 747, the FS9 crashes... Gave up after three tries.I tried to register in your other forum but I not receiving the registration e-mail on AOL.so..what do I do. Hello PMDG gentlemen (are there any ladies here?), Loving and learning the fly the 744 in the FS9, but would like to add some spice to the experience. I'm thinking of getting Radar Contact (it's good, right?) among other things, but here's where I need your suggestions/thoughts:(1) I'd like more realistic-looking weather environment for those real-weather downloads. I see that Flight Environment and ASV6 are available but are there any big differences/issues b/w them that I should know about? (2) What about global scenery? Guys:I seem to recall there was a fix for the missing external textures in the 737-700 Air Berlin 'Dream Liner" w/winglets. Anyone know what that fix is?Second questions: Some of the 800/700 have moving stairs. Ok, so I'm flying the 744 from KJFK to KMCO at FL384 and everythings fine. All of a sudden warnings go of all over the place, the AP cancells itself, an FMC message says "max alt FL324" and the plane goes into a vertical nose dive which was unrecoverable.I was flying at M0.876 with plenty of fuel, LNAV & VNAV working fine, along the J121 bewetween SAWED & MILIE (min alt FL180).I got out of it by cheating (slewing) and leveling the aircraft out before I hit the sea at over M1.0. From that point onward I could not reach FL384 again no matter how hard I tried, the AC would just stall at ~FL350 even at 99.8% thrust, flaps 0 degrees, no spoilers and a very horrible g…

Hello.The flight is from EDDF to SBGL. Flightplan is from http://rfinder.asalink.net with NAT. Within the FS9 Flightplaner I see that SGBL have ILS approaches (Rwy 28, 10, 33) and I see the Frequenzies. But in the FMC there are only the Rwy's, w.o. any ILS. I use Eirac 0513 and the newest SID/STAR for SGBL.Thank youPatrick

Hello all! I'm brand new to PMDG as of December 2005. I have the 737NG (600, 700, 800, 900) and 747-400. Previously I was a religious PS1 flier (over 2500 hrs), mainly flying the ultra-long hauls. Now with FS2004 and PMDG I am awed by the scenery and fantastic flight model combination.Today, I got my CH Pro Yoke and Pedals, (USB). I can get all settings, trim, gear, flaps assigned to buttons, but cannot for anything get TOGA and Autopilot and Autothrottle disengage assigned. The buttons show in the assign windows, but they do not work. Anyone have any ideas?Also, getting use to the auotpilots and autothrottles. Mostly I hand fly in and out of airports. However, w…

Hello captains!!After searching half a day nothing appears to be interesting for solving my problem.Starting up the 747 Queen of the Sky according to the manual sometimes the artificial horizon is completely black and the flightplan at the main panel is gone although all switches of the OVHD panel are in their normal position like the IRS switches. The only way to solve this so far is choosing another livery after restarting Fsim. When I choose the same flight using another livery it does not work, so I have to create another flight at the same airport/position.My second problem is the error "Pack 3 off". ok after i followed the PMDg 744 Normal Procedures manual step by step i cant get the LNAV autopilot to function right, nor the IRS nav display. After i go through checklist step by step, it comes to the point where you have to set the IRS mode select from OFF to NAV to ALIGN. I did that and my IRS is set to instant alignment. After the checklist ask to program IRS posistion in FMC I did that then it says switch the IRS mode back to NAV. When i do this the IRS display does not display the heading, distance to next waypoint, and if i switch it back to ATT is displays nothing. Then i have to keep going back and forth and it just wont work right. Finally on one flight…

When i am in the air with my pmdg 700/800 airplane it happens often that my speed suddenly change in 30 knots above it. What sometimes results in a overspeed. Then when the engine are reduced the to the input speed then the speed is suddenly 30 or 40 knots under it?? Beside that i notice that my airplane is shaking hard from the left to the right. It's like a hard rudder push.. It is not anti ice or the probe heat, because the switch is set to on.. Can someone please give me some advise about this issue? Best regards Christian

I have to be completly honest, the only reason I buy Microsoft Flight Sims is for the PMDG add-ons. What are the odds the 747 and MD-11 will be compatible with MSFS-X ?If it isnt compatiable, will we have to wait until the up and coming relase of MSFS-XI to get another compatible PMDG product :) ?(this isnt a dig on PMDG, I understand it takes time and I'll wait for your products, I just hate to get them 6 months before Im upgrading to another MSFS version)And my biggest question, hope and desire:What are the odds of you guys just by-passing MSFS all together and just releasing your own Airliner based flight sim?
