  3. I like many of us will purchase (when I am able) a 3080 or 3090 or maybe an AMD 6000 series GPU. My question. Is there any advantage in repurposing my current 2070S to run monitors 2&3 (1080’s) used for viewing 3rd party apps and use my shiny new only for the G-Sync 1440 main monitor? I will be using VR when it is implemented. Google searching has revealed many and divided opinions.

Have an i9-9900K overclocked to 5 GHz with hyperthreading enabled. Have a RTX2080 Ti with 11GB VRAM. My video settings in MSFS 2020 are set as per the graphics configuration recommendations in the guide on the official forum which are close to being the same as the "high" preset config. My CPU cores hit the low 50C range which seems pretty good, but the GPU gets to 81, 82, 83C routinely. Is that too hot for the card?

Hi Everyone I have the nvidia 1080 Ti (11GB) , I am tempted to upgrade to a 2080Ti but I am not sure if I there are major gains, as the 1080 is not being used to its pull potential . I will be grateful if anybody who has done this upgrade would share their thoughts. Most comments advise to wait for the 2030's,but their price is way beyond my means. Many thanks. Qas

Hello, I have built a new system to upgrade to P3D v5. I have an I9-10850 CPU, 32 GB of DDR4-4000 memory a combination of Nvme and SSD drives. The idea was to paired it with a RTX 3090 card once it was available during September. As it stands it look like it is going to be quite a while until I can get one of them. Currently I have three 2k monitors connected to a GTX 1080 Ti 11GB,with surround enabled within Nvidia. (7680 x 1440) I have another video card available it is a Radeon RX 580 with 8GB, is there any way that I can use that card to improve the graphics performance? Before I had my GTX 1080 ti paired with a 4790K cpu, and they were qu…

It is good to update your drivers for better performance. Personally, I realised that when a new version of driver is out and not loaded, my fps values are getting lower with the old driver installed. I don''t know if I am too suspicious or is it a marketing strategy ? Happy flying...

I’m currently on a 1080ti on a 43in 4K Sony TV. When I’m in MSFS2020 in drone mode looking around I can hit over 9gb of usage. When in normal view it averages 8gb with heavy clouds. I’m also interested in P3Dv5.1 once it releases which can also be a vram nightmare. So will 10gb be enough. I’m hoping that in 2021 a higher TI card may drop with more memory.

  11. I currently have a GTX 1080 that I will be replacing soon with a 3090 and would like to know what the proper way to go about doing this. Do I need to uninstall my current NVIDIA drivers and revert back to default drivers before swapping out my GPU? I want to be sure I'm doing this correctly.

First post, which probably means I have posted this in the incorrect forum so am happy for a mod to move it if necessary. I last played MSFS when X came out, then real life got in the way and here we are. I have promised myself a Christmas present and have begun building a new PC for the task. Anyone who hasn't noticed the unmitigated fail on an 'unprecedented' scale by NVIDIA with the release of their new cards, has not been anywhere the internet. I, like seemingly millions of others have been waiting patiently for launch of the next generation RTX 3000 series cards, where I had my eye on the 3080 model which boasts better performance than the current 'top' per…

  13. Not sure what this does, but graphically I'm not seeing any downside. What's remarkable is I'm seeing roughly a 12% performance improvement (using the surrogate, GPU utilization %). As a vsync to 30Hz user I'm not looking for frame rate increases of course because I'll never see them, just looking to keep GPU utlization percentage well below 99%. What I've seen now is I can go from 99% utilization and frames threatening to dip below 30 w/o this mode enabled, and with it enabled to the Ultra setting that will drop down to around 87% or so. Remarkable and I'm not seeing a downside. Works for me!

  14. This is old hat to you X-plane guys, but they have got the software running in fs2020 mostly now. (They are still waiting for Garmin GPS SDK). Air Manager software plus Knobster compatibility with FS2020. Gauges/displays can be popped out to (for instance) a little $200 touch screen window. Touch instrument knob on little screen, then tune it with the real knob on the Knobster.

What is everyone's thoughts on using the above monitor with FS instead of a 34" 4096*2160? I'm actually struggling with my sim setups right now and trying to figure out what should go where. My driving sim rig was a triple 27" 1920*1080, I got the 49 inch to replace the triples but the issue is the FOV. I was used to 176 with the triples, reduced to 106 with the 49 so I lose my right mirror. The realism is mind blowing from a "what I see" perspective but the FOV is really bothering me... Hence I am thinking of going BACK to a triple 27" setup for my racing rig. Would the Ultrawide be better suited for FS? Would the Horizontal pixel gain offset the vertical pix…

So, my Asus PG279Q 1440p needs to go in for RMA. Looking into picking up something new since I'm sure it's going to be weeks before I get it back and I can't survive on my 24" 1080p Dell. Had been thinking about the ultrawide 34GN850 LG and just getting rid of dual monitor, would be running on a 2080 Super FTW3 for now, possibly the rumored high VRAM 3080 later down the road. Also debating a 27GN850 for half the cost though and dump my dell when the Asus replacement comes back and use the Asus as my second monitor because both LG's support HDR gaming. Thoughts? I'm slightly worried about driving the extra pixels with the 2080 super (about 5 mil vs 3.6 on the 27"). I…

So like many I'm highly enthused with the new FS2020 and the exceptional terrain enhancements. But I have trouble seeing many of the instrument settings, particularly the Garmin buttons. The King Air detail very nearly requires a magnifier. My favorite computer outlet has 2560-1440 monitors starting at $ 350.00 Thats nearly 3X what I paid for my current 1920-1080 that I've had for a while. I'm not chafing at the cost at all IF the purchase greatly enhances the inside button clarity. I don't care as much about the outside at this point. Part of me says, just buy one and try it out. But I hate taking stuff back unless absolutely necessary, so I'd rather get some vi…

  18. I have a "backup" system that is showing its age a bit: 10 years old using an Asus Crosshair IV Formula MB along with an AMD 1090T (remember those!), and are you ready for it... a GeForce 580 with a whopping 1.5GB! Ok, ok... but like I said this is a 2nd system. I use it for multi-media and to run other displays (gauges, moving map, etc.) and should anything happen to my main PC I can immediately continue work/play with no down time. I never use it to run flightsim itself. But the old WD velocerapter running Windows 10 pooped out so I just did a fresh install and thought got me thinking about the GPU. Getting back up to speed on GPU's and I saw these GeForce…

Building a brand new system right now I will put a 3090 card in there eventually after the prices stabilize. Was thinking of getting a 3080 but not sure the price and availability right now when it’s released which I think is today. what options is the best to put one in now when I get the 3090 I will take this graphics card and put it in my sons gaming computer. any ideas or am I better waiting a few more weeks to see how prices and availability shake out.

Benchmarks are out - GTX 3090 is marginally better than the GTX 3080 due to CPU bottle neck. It would be prudent to save $1500 and go with the 3080 if you’re only getting a 5% boost in performance. Benchmarks follow:
