If I set MSFS to render 4k, but display in 2k, native of my current monitor, will it give good indication on how performance will be in true 4k? Need to know before I invest in 4k monitor.

Looks like Asus and Noctua are teaming up on an RTX 3070 variant. Not certain yet if its just fans or an entire Noctia heat sink on the card. https://www.pcgamer.com/uk/asus-noctua-30-series-graphics-card/

It is being reported by some users with Nvidia GPU's that switching to the studio driver's may help with CTD's. I haven't seen my PC for a couple of weeks so I can't attest to any of this. However, if you are experiencing CTD's and have 10 minutes to waste, it may be worth a shot. I saw this info in the latest Overkill video on youtube and thought I'd share. You can shoot the messenger if you want, I'm pretty thick skinned 😁

Hi. I have just purchased a second monitor for my flight sim. The plan is to run things like SimToolkitPro, ChasePlane, Active Sky etc on my second monitor while running Prepar3D on the main monitor. I like to run Prepar3D in full screen mode, and when I tried my new dual monitor setup today I discovered that switching to full screen in Prepar3D also forces full screen on my second monitor - and that doesn't work, giving me a black screen on the second monitor. To be clear, both monitors run off the same PC, and I am running Windows 10. Both monitors are connected via HDMI to a GeForce GTX 1080, except that for the second monitor I have to use a DisplayPort to HDMI adapte…

I'm running a 32 inch QHD LG as the main screen and an old 18 inch for the 2nd on MSFS. The 2nd screen is used for ATC and map, I want a bit more space and want to go up to a 24 inch for the 2nd monitor. Any recommendations for something reasonably priced (UK). LP

I have X-Plane 11 with a Samsung 49 inch monitor with a Nvidia GTX 1080TI 12GB GPU; CPU i7 6700K 4.00 GHz; RAM 16GB. I also have Realsimgear GNS 530/430 which are actual size GPS hardware units with 6.7 and 6 inch monitors respectively. The GPS units operate as separate monitors and cause some decline in FPS. The question I have is would I realize improved FPS with a newer card like a 2080 or 3080 also with 12GB in lieu of the older 1080ti? I realize the global shortage is a big problem not to mention the exorbitant pricing.

Nvidia Releases Its First Windows 11 Supported Driver Nvidia has released a new Game Ready Driver, version 471.41 that marks the first WHQL supported Nvidia driver for the Windows 11 operating system. This driver also brings with it game support for Red Dead Redemption 2's DLSS update and Chernobylite. Nvidia makes some of the best graphics cards, and regular driver updates help ensure your system keeps running smoothly. Windows 11 support is the biggest announcement for the update, allowing anybody running the current Windows 11 developer preview to install an official Windows 11 graphics driver for devices running Nvidia GPUs. This should hopefully redu…

Doing some research in preparation for maybe getting a 3090 when availability increases. Didn't realize how many flavors they come in but i found a video where, based on a number of hardware design factors, they are racked and stacked. The guy appears to know his stuff but then compared to me anyone would. The top 3 in order are : 1. Asus Strix , 2. MSI Gaming X trio , 3 Asus TUF . He reviews and ranks about 8 cards in total but it appears there may be a significant drop off after these top three. The link is : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IyS5Fa5w34E Probably should be move to the hardware forum but probably more eyes here that may be …

I'm looking at 2 monitors. One is G-Sync compatible (48-165hz), the other has AMD Freesync premium. I have a pretty modest system, and with my settings I do dip below 30fps at heavier airports. I understand ideally, I would want a full G-sync monitor that can sync from 1-144+hz, but these are very expensive. AMD freesync premium and G-Sync compatible monitors have something called a LFC: Low Framerate Compensation, which doubles frames below the minimum refresh rate of the monitor to avoid judder/tear. Can anybody shed light on this? Or will I not minimize frame rate fluctuation stutters unless I go for a full G-Sync chipped panel? I would like to run at 30hz, it's j…

I'm looking at 3080Ti v 3090. Right now I have to stop flights and typically adjust Volumentric clouds down from Ultra to High, rarely to Medium, to cope with TRANSIENT demand on VRAM & GPU utilization. Typically this is on the ground, but sometimes flying thru clouds, and often w/ this it's GPU utlization that gets hammered more than VRAM use when in the air, and often both GPU and VRAM while on the ground. My 2070 Super has 8Gb and most often I'm not getting all that close to 8Gb in use, but definitely do enough to have me stop once or twice per flight to adjust. So my question, if I put a 12Gb 3080Ti in, will VRAM use just go up to the new total amount, a…

Out of nowhere, MSFS (and American truck sim as I found out trying to troubleshoot) are not detecting nor using the 2070 super on my desktop machine. I noticed it when the frames halved and all of a sudden I can't get more than 15. When I enabled the dev mode FPS, the problem is glaring. It seems as though my 2070 super card is "stuck in neutral" as when I look at the MSI Afterburner app monitoring performance, it never "kicks in" when the app is launched, meaning that it usually spools up and temps start to rise as the GPU is being used. Nope, it just sits there, temp at 54, fans completely idle....even tried other intensive gaming apps, same thing...horrible …

I am currently running an 8GB GTX 1070. As I watch for RTX 3xxxx availability I see a possible opportunity to pick up an 8GB RTX 3070 TI. Due to the type of flying I do I am still logging 70% of my hours in FSX SE with numerous addon enhancements. And doing quite fine with the 1070. As I wait for additional MSFS development and addon enhancements to better match the type of flying I do, I'd value opinions on whether I should at this time look toward an RTX 3070 TI or stick it out waiting (how much?) longer for a 10GB 3080.

Hi After thinking, rethinking, having some extra bugdet and seeing that good monitors are also in shortage like GPUs, I have now two options at a great discount: - Dell Allienware AW3420DW with G-Sync native, 3440*1440, but no HDR - LG 48A16LA 48" OLED UltraHD 4K with fixed refresh rate at 60 Hz and HDR10 My main problem is tearing, lag or stutters when MSFS is going to 20-30 fps since I like to have all types of extra addons installed like AI aircraft, volumetric clouds and so on... Which one to choose? I still have 1 day to decide... My main specs are: i9-10900K, Asus RTX 3090 OC, MSI MEG Z490 ACE, RAM 32 GB 3200 CL16…

I see now in their regular Newegg Shuffle they are getting very close to Ebay prices on 3080Ti/3090, just a few hundred less than the robo-scalpers. That's it for my loyalty to Newegg going forward!

Hello Everyone I have just acquired a new 27inch 2560x1440 240 Htz full G sync monitor and intend using it with P3dv4.5 and maybe later MSFS 2020. My graphics card is a 1080ti 11GB card which i understand supports G Sync. As I am not as technical as many here, I should be grateful if it can be explained what I have to do to get G Sync running in P3dv 4.5 and what settings are best in the sim. I am currently running a 60 Htz 1080 p monitor and I use RTSS to set frames at 30 fps with unlimited fps set in P3d. It runs pretty well but my understanding is that G Sync operates from 1Htz up to the top Htz of your monitor and matches the fps output from the graphi…

Thinking about new monitor for MSFS. Would you recommend a simple 2K/4K flat monitor with fixed rate like 60 Hz, a curved monitor like Acer X34, tv like the new oled LG A1 48 (48A16LA ?) or something bigger? Is 8 bit enough? Better 8 + FRC? 10 bits? With or without HDR? I read that HDR is nice but it doesn't run well... I have one RTX 3080 card... Tks

I have an old computer running under Windows XP. No upgrades were made for years. I am quite happy with my old system, and I DO NOT want anything new, be it hardware or software. But recently my NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT card died, and I had to replace it with NVIDIA GeForce GT 730/ And severe issue appeared in FSX At first I blamed the card (which indeed was defective - it failed the stress test and hanged in other games), but after replacing it (with the same model) the bug did not go, while there is no problem in the 2-hours stress test and other games (MS Flight 2012, Il-2, Rise of Flight and X-plane 9 - that's all games I have). So the problem is FSX-specific: In a…
