I'm looking for input and comments from those who has already replaced their 285 with a 480. After the Aces Studio was shut down and no more FS versions in a near future I thought I wouldn't have to upgrade my FS rig for quite some time but now with the new BP=0 FSX.CFG tweak maybe an upgrade of the graphics cards is justified...The rest of my rig consists of a Core [email protected] GHz, 6 GB RAM, both FSX and Windows 7 x64 running on their own SSDs.If you already went from a GTX 285 to a GTX 480 please share your experiences!TIA,

Hi EveryoneI have reinstalled Windows 7 plus fsx and all my add ons recently however I am getting problems with my 285 GTX video card. I will be flying in fsx and all of a sudden a message appears the the video card driver has stopped working but has now recovered. I have never had this issue before, any ideas what it is likely to be. I innitially installed the 197.45 drivers but changed to 197.57 drivers to see if that solved the problem but it appears to be happening with that one too. Please see my system specs belowCheers Barra

Just wanted to give anyone running Windows XP x64 that at present, the GTX 480 will not work with FSX. I took the day off of work today to take delivery of an EVGA GTX 480 SC and its been a baaaaaaaaaaaad day! Noth short of a major headache. FSX will do nothing but crash (blue screen caused by nv4_disp.dll) with the combination of XP x64 and the GTX 480. I noticed that another forum member (PingPong) was having the same issue of constant crashes and the common denominator between us was XP x64 and that all those reporting great success with GTX 400 series cards were running Windows 7.My guess is that not much work is going into the drivers for XP. I did a base install…

Hi,Recently I've been debating with my self weather to upgrade my graficscard or not. First of all I run both FS9 and FSX and they run "smooth" with the sliders to the right of avarage.(not all the way and no AI and no autogen) I've read *******' post on how FSX processes information and it seems that Stream Processors are very important which makes an ATI 5870 card an appropriate choice, BUT I've also read that ATI drivers are very buggy - Can someone shed some light on that? The other card I had in mind is the 285GTX and while it is both cheaper and has more RAM, it does have only 240 Stream processors. Another problem that I will get is size. What I have available is …

I got my new system back in March it's a Studio 540 with Intel Duo Core @ 2.93gHz slightly overclocked to 3.0gHz, 2.0GB DDR2 RAM, and sadly I must admit I did not splurge on the graphics card and I am currently running an Intel G45/G43 Express Chipset. For an integrated graphics chip it runs surprisingly well but as I am reinstalling addons into FS I do end up with frames in the low teens at busy airports with high levels of scenery. In addition texture loading times are average at best. So now I am looking into a new graphics card (not too snazzy) possibly a 9600 GT 512 MB card. It runs on a PCIe port (I have PCIe slots) but all the listings state it is DDR3. Is this a …

Is this normal, while flying fsx with the BP=0, I open my EVGA precision and see that my GTX 480 Core Clock is spiking up and down from 406 mhz to 726 mhz, constantly, I get really bad stutters then everything shuts down, Im trying to figure out why so many others can get this card to work but I can't, the temp of the card is around 50, the gpu usage stays between 33 and 42 % and the memory usage is around 475 mb . Here is my cfg file, edit also the memory clock spiking from 300 to 1900 mhz aswell as the shader clock from 600 to 800 to 1451,Never really paid attention to these settings before because I never really had problems with a gpu before.[bufferPools]UsePools=0[JO…

I'm running a GTX 285 with a default core clock speed of 675. When I checked it with EVGA Precision while running FSX, the core clock speed never went above 400. Even when testing it with OCCT's GPU stress test, it never went above 400. Is this normal or do I have a defective card?

Hello,Firstly, I apologize if this is the wrong forum.I installed some new shaders I found here off AVSIM. I made a backup of my old ones just in case, and when I launched FSX I got this:I figured it was something wrong with the shaders, so I reverted back to the old ones only to find that the problem still exsisted. Any ideas?Regards,Andrew

Hi,I'm considering to add 2 extra monitors to my FS2004 PC, but I don't know what the best solution is.Here are the parameters: I have a pretty decent system, including a GTX285 Running WinXP Pro x86, incl SP3 (and want to keep it that way) In FS2004 I only fly 2D panels, no VC Currently have a 26" 1900x1200 monitor I would like to add 2 extra 22" monitors (1680x1050) only to display the forward-right and forward-left views (2D)What is the best way to go? Do I have to add an extra GTX285 and connect both monitors so can I dock both side views?Does it matter the forward view is 1900x1200 and both side views only 1680x1050 or do they have to be all the same?Do I need anoth…

So far not impressed, using the latest drives and also tried the drivers with the cd, Im using W7 64 and have applied the ******* B=0 tweak but even without it I keep getting corrupted graphics and this crash nvd3dum.dll which I know is related to nvidia. I have reinstalled my drivers so many times in the last few hours and have even done a clean install of W7, should have stuck with xp 64. What can I do to stress test my video card, how can I tell if its just an fsx problem or a faulty card, everything seems to work ok until I fire up fsx.

Hey GuysI am posting some disappointing news, I am running a triple head 2 go on 3 22" displays and plugged in my spanking new Zotac GTX 480 and it's just crash after crash. For a few seconds I am in flight sim nirvana with high frame rates and all sliders right. Like 60 fps over the default Friday Harbour flight, and then the crash and blue screen.I tried to be scientific about localizing the problem, I started with a clean confing(x/c widescreen = true), then took out nhancer leaving everything application controlled, then took out the framerate limiter and enb bloom, but there's no relief. I am on WinXP 64, and can't see a way to make this setup work.I snuck in an o…

Could someone point me to a post that describes the correct way to setup FSX and Nvidia Control Panel settings? I'm confused as to which program should be controlling the video card settings.I have found various posts throughout the forum but can't find one that shows what settings shoud be selected in each. I don't use nHancer. Many thanks.

Hello Everyone,After two weeks of trying to score a Fermi, I actually have an EVGA 470 GTX up and running. The short verdict is that Nvidia's new offering, even at the entry level, is a treasure for FSX. Everywhere I have flown in the past few hours has been a smooth and fluid delight, without stutters, flashes or artifacts of any kind. There are not even micro stutters. The only thing that happened negatively is that I had a sudden and strange CDT for no apparent cause that probably is a driver issue. I use bufferpools=0, Nhancer, FPS limiter at 25 FPS, Affinitymask at 15, and other minor sundry tweaks. The big news is that all, I repeat, all my sliders are to the right …

Hello all,I have an old system, I use it solely for FS9 and upgrading the system as a whole is out of the question - for now at least.I generally get good frames but some slowdowns during heavy weather, and at large airports with lots of AI (FSDT ORD, JFK for example). My system specs:AMD X2 Dual Core 5200+ 2.60 GHz4GB RAMVista 32 bitI have a GeForce 8500GT - 512mb.Obviously the whole system is old and slow, but while I wait for my financial situation to improve I'm curious as to whether upgrading the video card will allow me to wring a little more life out of my system. A new PC is at least a year (or two) in the offing so this is really my only choice for now.IF an upgra…

Hi,I want to buy a new computer and need some suggestions according CPU, graphics card and hard disks.I have thought of the AMD 1090T 6-core CPU, the Ati HD5870 and two SSDs (one for Windows and one for FSX).How does the HD5870 compare to the nvidia GTX 480? Are there objective tests with both of them in FSX (Framerate comparison with same settings or so)? If the difference is only minimal I would choose the Ati, because it's cooler (temperature), consumes less power, is more silent and of course costs less. The resolution would be 1920x1980.I did not want to open a thread in each sub forum, so I'll ask about CPU and hard disk in this thread, too.FSX can use all 6 cores, r…
