For the first time that I've been updating graphics card video drivers, an NVidia driver has caused a major crash of my system. During the install process, my computer screen(s) went black and the system went into a permanent loop. The only way I could get out of this loop was to unplug my system.I downloaded the 197.45 driver for Windows 7, 64-bit. I've never had ANY problems with NVidia drivers before this. It took several hours of OS repair and dropping back to restore points before I rescued my system. At some point during all this system restore, I lost my graphics tablet and the mouse function it provided. I had to drop back to using a USB mouse. I've never s…

Managed to get a GTX470 today. Was going for an ATI 5870 until these appeared.First impressions are good. Replaced a GTX280 and at first I was disappointed as performance seemed similar at the same settings:Scenery: Very DenseAutogen: Very DenseWater: 2x LowTraffic: Ultimate Traffic 2 at 80%However, due to increased shaders and *******' tweaks etc I can increase Water to 2x High, Autogen and Scenery to max without hardly any hit on frames. The ENBSeries mod gives about a 3-4 fps hit as usual and I can even use FSX bloom without too much trouble.Highest GPU usage I saw was around 70% in and around Manhatten X and highest GPU memory usage observed was 845MB ' ish (PMDG 747…

Hi Bojote,I know you now run a 480 and wondered if you had experienced a nvd3dum.dll crash in FSX since installing the 197.41 drivers.I had a 470 for a few days but my 480 has now landed and the 470 is up for sale.I also had the crash 2 or 3 times with the 470.I am using your tweaks: Usepools=0HighMemFix=1TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=400TextureMaxLoad=15FSX is great at a locked 25 fps but occasionally I get this crash and the sim locks. Haven't nailed the reason yet but I never got it with my GTX 280 using your tweaks.I also use ENBSeries mod.Any help appreciated.

Hi,I've been a long time nVidia user but very recently I swapped to a Radeon 5870 card. For my GTX285 I always used nHancer to tweak the settings. For the 5870 I have only the Catalyst CC.Is there also a tweak utility for ATI (like nHancer for nVidia) and do I need such a utility?

Hey guys - i am using FSX I currently have a Q9550 @ 3.5ghz and i want to upgrade from my 4890. The reason for my upgrade is that im not happy with my card, its having a tough time with the AA and AF ( on the FPS ) and the REX clouds i think... Ive read around that the ATI cards are not as good as ATI when it comes to Flight SimX, and REX clouds. Right now im not getting great frame rates at all and i want to get it higher, im getting around <10 fps in ORBX YMML with AI in the PMDG 744 with moderate weather ( REX Clouds) and when im above the clouds, frames still drop when heaps of clouds are in sight. ive tried heaps of tweaks too.My Question to you is...With a Q9550…

Just comparing the technical specs of a GTX250 and GTX260 card. Most specs are similar, however memory seems to be the big difference:GTX260:Memory896 MB, 448 bit DDR31998 MHz (effective)111.9 GB/s Memory BandwidthGTX250:Memory1024 MB, 256 bit DDR32200 MHz (effective)70.4 GB/s Memory BandwidthMost other differences in spec are in the GTX 250's favor, surprisingly, but the memory difference (significantly better for the 260 (448 bit) than the 250 (256 bit)) I assume is the main factor.Given that FSX is the only application that I run that requires performance, how much of an issue for FSX is the memory difference? There quite a price difference, which is why I ask. Both…

What's the verdict? Is Anisotropic better than Trilinear, or are they about the same as to render the best texture representation?I have been using Tri all along, but Bojote uses Anisotropic within FSX.Any opinions?Mitch

Hi all,After installing nHancer and setting it up as recommended by "Nick" elsewhere on Avsim.com, I by chance ran 3DMark06. I noticed a significant drop from around 21,000 3DMarks to around 16,000 3DMarks with nHancer installed. Now this would not be alarming if my suspicion can be confirmed that nHancer is also overiding the 3Dmark06 settings which include no AA as standard. The only other thing I have tweaked since I last ran 3DMark06 was to increase the clock speed of the RAM a little - but that should increase the score if anything, not reduce it so significantly...Please let me know if this is correct?

Hi After installing my new Radeon 5830 card last week and after a number of tweaks i got with the help from the forum i did get FSX running sweet. Tonight though i decided to fire up FS9 and fly using my new Quality Wings 757 but after downloading the weather i was horrified to see my frame rates down as low as 4/5, what's gone wrong. My card before was an 8800 ultra and handles things no problem until it burnt out so i thought i would replace it with a superior card, but from the start i have had, it has been a disaster. As you can see from the rest of my set up achieving a good performace should be no problem but now when ever there is a cloud in the sky my system fa…

Hey guys!Recently I've had my GTX295 replaced with a Sapphire HD5870 'cause the 295 broke down. However, I am very disappointed with 5870's performance in FS2004 and FSX, for I can't get the AA to work as well as it did with the 295 and the FPS are quite low. I would really appreciate it if somebody shared his Catalyst settings or help me somehow get the AA to work with satisfactory performance.Thank you in advance,Panayotis

Since I exchanged my defective Nvidia Geforce 8800GT against an ATI Radeon HD5870, I have these randomly occurring black squares when crossing certain regions. They flicker up and stay only for a very short moment. My Fsx.cfg is unedited after card exchange. I am running FSX / REX / Vista32 / DX10 / Catalyst 10.2 driver.Has anyone seen this before, and (hopefully) figured out how to fix it?Michael

Hi guys... I have one of those new 27" imac with ATI Radeon HD 4850 512mb GPU and i7 core processor.. I can run FSX perfectly (under Windows 7 in bootcamp). The thing is that I tried to run FS2004 but right after I double click to start I get an error stating that FS2004 could not get the Hardware 3D mode cannot be enabled...b I have tried reading many postings and I have played around with the display.cfg file, but cannot get it to work... I have installed the latest drivers....Can somebody shed some light on this matter please? Has anyone been able to get it to work? It's as if the ATI Radeon HD 4850 is not recognized by FS2004....Thanks in advance!!!!Carlos

  16. Made an interesting discovery last night - the Nvidia drivers actually work for enhancing FS's built in AA now, without the use of nHancer to override the predefined profile Nvidia sets. I don't know for sure if it works on all cards, but it most definitely does on my GTX260. (using the latest driver - 197.13)Here's how to try it:In nHancer, right click the FSX profile you have and choose "Delete/Reset Profile" from the list. This should clear out the settings and the predefined setting override stuff. After doing that, you'll see "AA:EnhanceOnly" as the only thing under the Summary column next to the program name. Now, inside FSX, check the AA box and set the drop dow…

Hi to @ll,I have worked long time with a GTX-295 and now own Saphire's HD 5870 Vapor-X. The reason I switched from GTX-295 to HD-5870 was following:I have 3x 24" Monitors set-up. When I played FSX on single monitor at 1920x1200 with my GTX-295 it was quite stunning. I used some tweaks like Bufferpools=0 and so on. The problem was, that I was not able to use my second monitor with the BP=0 tweak. As soon as I opened a second view to my second monitor everywhere graphic errors occured (tons of black polygon lines started from autogen objects to the sky). I also had red lots about Multi-GPU cards and FSX and that FSX cannot use the huge power of my card. So I was forced to p…

At least on my system, specs below, these drivers do not pump up the fan when flying FSX. That is the only 3D program I run and during my initial flight today, after about an hour, I got a speckled screen and severe tearing of the video which I recognized as overheating memory or GPU and shut down immediately. I wear headphones so when I took them off and listened, the fan was still at idle or slightly above. I then downloaded and fired up Riva Tuner and took the fan up to 70% manually and restarted FSX. Sure enough, the speckles are gone and I completed the flight with no further issues.

Hi allMy screen has started to, pixelate. Fine white dots start to appear all over the screen which after a few seconds fill the screen. They then disappear and start again. This happens in and outside of FS. As I type this it's still doing it. It's particularly bad when I scroll down - the screen then appears to smudge. This happens with old and new driver installation. Today, it is very bad to the point where I cant use FS at all.I'm assuming my graphics card is dying. Has anyone else experienced this ? And can anyone confirm what the problem isMy Specs:Inno Nvidia 260GTX (with latest Nvidia drivers)Q9650 @ 3Ghz4gb RAMVista 64Thanks guys eric
