I'm ready to jump on board with Fermi. From all the discussions here, it seems that there is little to choose performance-wise between a 470 and a 480, but I'd be glad to hear other opinions on that. The only other issue I have is card memory. I have the 1792MB 275 simple because I use 2560x1600 resolution and thought it would benefit. I've no evidence for that, just seemed a logical thing to do at the time. At this resolution, will using the 1280MB have card have any impact on the FSX experience? Using the GPU-Z monitor I've never got above 750MB, but I don't know if that offers the complete picture of memory consumption. Comments?ThanksSimon

I really don't know what's going on here. Everything was fine yesterday, but today when I booted my PC and run the sim, FSX started acting up and frames drop now to 5 - 10 when turning, zooming or panning.I have this brand new GTX260 with the latest driver installed (197.45) and only reinstalling the driver seems to solve the problem, but as soon as the system is rebooted I get the same crap again.I run the driver installer as administrator and all. Also tried changing some settings in nHancer to rule out profile not being saved properly but no luck. The changes in the profile are visible in FSX but it's still sluggish.Windows doesn't show any change in my driver version …

  4. For those that have replaced a 1GB GTX-285 for a GTX-470 or 480...how much of a true and better difference in FSX did you find? Could you put your conclusion in a percentage such as: 'I found the 4xx cards to add xx percent amount of performance and rendering gain in such areas as':1. FPS increase over base card2. Land class rendering3. Clarity/Blur of renderings, etc4. AtmosphericsWith the superb increase on my GTX-285 1GB with running the 257.15 beta drivers,...of course I am curious to know how this driver is running the 470 or 480!Is it time to upgrade, or did you find not too much more in percentage performance if using a GTX 285 as your baseline? Thanks,

Hello - I have heard many times that NVidia is better for FSX. I have been contemplating building a new machine but it will be awhile before I can afford it. Can anyone offer feedback on if swapping my ATI HD4850s (two of them running 3 monitors) with something from NVidia (i dont know what's out there from NVidia). Here are my other stats:i7 2.93 ghzWIN7645GB RamSB XiFi Extreme

  6. Hi guys,I had an 8800GTX 768MB, it died and was replaced with a 5870 2GB Vapor-X card. The first ATI I received was physically broken, (bit of plastic had snapped) - RMA'd.The second was experiencing the ATI GSOD issues:http://forums.amd.com/game/messageview.cfm...p;enterthread=yand this 100 page thread here:http://forums.amd.com/game/messageview.cfm...p;keyword1=gsod(there are others)Second card RMA'd, found faulty, new card sent. New card is *much* better, yet I still occasionally experience the same issue (but MUCH less). FSX *seems* stable, 5 hrs yest, no crash. But have managed crashes with Napoleon:Total War, BioShock and Alien Breed Demo, although I have been able t…

The non-beta version of MSI Afterburner has been released. It enables advanced overclocking settings for Nvidia 400 series video cards, regardless of the brand name. It works most settings for the 200 series, and perhaps earlier Nvidia versions as well.More information and download hereStephen

  9. Correction in title: 'play' should be 'plays'----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------I now have a new respect for the role, the graphics driver you are using, plays in smooth rendering and of course great and satisfying visuals.I'm using the new nVidia Beta 257.15's along with Nick Needham's modification to achieve the parameters that nHancer gave/gives you. As a result of the best flight animation I have ever had to date, with my GTX285 vid card, and with running it to test for a whole day, I have now removed nHancer from the cue. It doesn't work until a new version comes out (was using the latest) with the 257.15 driver s…

Guys,I am planning to upgrade my wife's comp. She is a graphics designer and works on Photoshop CS3 and needs a good setup for graphics but no games.I saw that the I3 530/H55/4GB RAM combo would get her everything in one package. My question is will the integrated gpu on this combo work for her?How would you compare the performance of the integrated GPU with a stand alone GPU? What stand alone GPU would the performance of this integrated GPU be comparable to?ThanksShez

I picked up a GTX 470 yesterday hoping to give my older system a shot in the arm. Unfortunately though performance is actually worse after upgrading from an 8800 GT. I was sure to uninstall the older drivers, run Driver Sweeper in safe mode, and install the latest version of DirectX. I'm at a loss at this point and thought I'd seek some feedback before returning the card. Here are my specs:Dell Dimension 9200Intel Core 2 Duo E6320 (1.86GHz)Windows 7 Ultimate4GB RAMCorsair 650W PSUThanks guys.Dave

  12. What's the general consensus here? I've read that it doesn't matter if you just install new Nvidia Drivers over old ones. Then I read where it's imperative that you do, and then use a tool like cCleaner or something after deletion. SInce I want to do it RIGHT, please tell me what most of you do when a new and perhaps exciting driver appears on the scene. Looking forward to your individual responses and reasons why!Stan

Hi!I'm going to build an all new I7 computer for FSX and general gaming and I'm wondering which GPU would be best for FSX and to other games. I've done some searching and found out that NVIDIA seems to be work better for FSX while ATI is better for other games. I can't afford a NVIDIA 470 or 480, so please don't suggest them. I don't play any first person shooter games, mainly strategy games besides FSX that aren't too resource hungry.I've thought about getting one of the following GPUs:1. MSI ATI 5850 OC (Seems to have the best OC available for the 5850 and it's the most expensive card at 307

Many thanks for everybody's help on this topic. My reseller today informed that he wouldnt be able to fit a water cooled 480 into my PC Case, for some reason which I didnt understand. As I want to run FS9 at full throttle ie all sliders set to max, I am worried about the heat and noise reading other posts. Is there another way to cool the 480 down without water cooling?, especially during the hot weather! Or should I go for a Geforce 285 GTX, or will I need to cool that card too if I want to run the sliders at maximum. Many thanks and best Wishes,Chris EGBB

I noticed that between those two modes, there is a huge performance impact when using cloudy situations.I don't seem to be able to "exclude" clouds from the hard effect of 2x2 supersampling. There is too much performance impact with 2x2 SS, but aircraft models look way better with it.Is there maybe some way to get more performance out of it?

My turn will come up soon in the EVGA step up program to exchange my 470 to a 480. I was wondering if anyone here had the chance to try both with FSX and if there was a notable difference between both in FSX?I really wanted to buy a 480 at launch time but they were out of stock, so I got the 470 and registered in the evga step up program. However I really like the performance of the 470 and now debating if the step up is worth it (for +/- 170$).thanks

Which is the Best Nvidia Card for FS9? Being relatively new to this I am unsure which card is best. I am confused further because I am told the later Nvida SLI video cards like the 480 are not properly utilised by FS9.I have Win XP SP3 (32 bit), 3.4 GHZ CPUNot sure about Windows 7 yet as to whether there are any compatability issues for FS9, my addons and my Saitek Yoke. Many thanks,Chris EGBB

Because there is no more FSInn forum and my question is related to Video cards / Monitors I placed it hereI want to expand my FS 3D activity but online flying with FSInn panel is stopping the 3D engine/driver because the panel is on top of the FS screen.Aother 3D user on these forum mentioned to put Squawkbox or FSInn on a secondery monitor so can anybody confirm that it's possible and/or have experience with it.I'm working on a 24" 1920x1200 monitor with Trackclip-Pro and thinking about a very small LCD monitor next to it with only the FSInn OSD. for example the little photoviewers.Anyone a clue....Cheers

Hi folks,There is loads of information on this forum and others about these new cards with FSX but I am an FS9 / 2D panel luddite so I thought I'd post my questions separately... I'd also appreciate hearing other peoples experiences with these cards and FS9.I have a system with a C2D E8600 @ 4.33GHz and 4GB fast DDR3 with a GTX280 running (a fully tricked out) FS9 on XP64 in a dual-screen (2 x 28" 1920x1200) setup through a digital DualHead2Go. Most of the time my performance is good but I do sometimes have issues with dropping FPS and decreased smoothness and I'm pretty sure this is due to the large screen resolution I'm using (3840x1200 overall), and the fact that at zo…

I am using three monitors all at 1920x1200 ( native) . I have my primary focus on the the gtx 295 and the others are on the gtx 280.I basically only use the two secondary monitors for third party programs and for my gauges that i want to movewhen i undock a gauge and move it , it turns black. When i move it back to the primary it shows up again. This is not true for all gauges but is generally the caseI have moved around monitors , for instance i tried two on the 295 and one on the 280 but i had the same resultwhen i run gpu-z i noticed that the shades , memory and clock speed get topped out on the cards when running fsx. That is interesting because i always thought fsx wa…
