I have finally gotten my 32" TV working with my computer. I have a Sapphire HD 4650 video card (1Gb) connected via a HDMI cable. Everything seems OK till I try to run FSX . I get a message that the pixel shader needs a Radeon 8500 or greater to run FSX. This only happens when I use the 32" TV monitor and not when I use the 19" ADI monitor hooked via a DVI cable. Yesterday I did get the 32" monitor to run with a VGA cable but the video was not as god as with the HDMI cable today. I think the VGA cable is limited to only 1024 x 768 and I am running 1280 x 768 (HDMI). Any idea how to get around this pixel shader message which is keeping FSX from loading/running on the large…

I'm trying to get the NGX from PMDG running - and am having trouble with direct x. One of the install components is an update of DX9 runtime components - and that update is failing. There is no error message other than the system failed and direction to check out the error logs. Here are the logs. I've tried pretty much everything - including installing the redstributable version - uninstalling and installing the video driver, doing clean installs etc. Google searches are not much help. Thanks! Colin DX Error Log: [05/18/11 14:22:04] module: dxupdate(Mar 31 2006), file: dxupdate.cpp, line: 5640, function: DirectXUpdateInstallPlugIn Failed API: SetupIterateCabinet()…

  3. Hi All, with FSX if I install a second graphics card (or maybe use the onboard graphics as well as the main gpu), is the frame rate for all determined by the lowest, or are they seperate? Thanks for any help.BF

Ive used nvidia inspector in the past to override FSXs AA & AF, no matter where I am or what aircraft - I get 10FPS (20FPS if im lucky!).. Now I know my system is not master of the dark arts, but was would this be? My CPU can achieve 25+FPS with the NGX at standard AA & AF, but when I turn nvidia inspector on - thats the end of my FPS! Would this be a issue with my CPU or GPU? If its my GPU - what would you recomend upgrading to... if its CPU - ill just build a entire new system in a few months.

  5. I'm playing on a 20" LCD with a native resolution of 1360x768. My video card is a nVidia GT460 with 768MB or memory. Do GPUs have optimal resolutions that they run at? I'm just wondering if anything under that optimum resolution will stop increasing FPS and start hurting FPS in FSX? What has sparked this thought is that the new PMDG 737 NGX recommends a 1080p resolution, but mine is under this. My first thought is that my lower resolution will just limit my viewing ability and not my performance. I run FSX at my native resolution, but use the higher res. textures. I'm wondering if this is actually hurting me and not helping me. Maybe time for a higher resolution monitor?

I was rummaging around and found a pair of 3D glasses made by Eyecessories that I got a few years ago.I thought about reusing them. I'm a little confused on how to get the right drivers for this purpose.I googled this issue and got this helpful article- http://www.planesimu...cles/fsx_3d.htm which is very straightforward. Before I start i just want to be sure I'm not doing something stupid and throw my system out of whack. I'm not sure what version of video card driver I have now. I open C\Program Files\ Nvidia\Display drivers, and I see three folders:186.18195.62.257.21There's another folder named WinXP with 182.50 insideSo which version is currently installed?I thought…

Hi all,I have been running FSX in a multi monitor mode for about a year now and I have been setting up all three monitors (23" Acer digitals) using 3 undocked windows and a native resolution of 1920 X 1080. I have a GTX 580 and a GTX 240. I use windows 7 home premium (64 bit) and a Intel I7 950 clocked at 3.8 Ghz. I have 8 GIGs of DDR 3 RAM.I have been able to achieve FPS rates in the mid twenties when flying in rural areas or areas with relatively light population. I have kept my FSX settings at a modest level. I do not fly anything but GA A/C and specifically the American Champion Scout, the RealAir Siai Marchetti SF 260, and the RealAir Beech Duke (both prop and t…

  10. Hello everyone, I just tested FSX on my new rig for the first time, and it looks pretty good. But the problem is, it kinda lacks the 'something' that keeps me playing it for hours and hours. I've been wondering whether i should get another 6970 and set them up in Crossfire, or just buy a single GTX 580. I'd like to get the 580, but i really don't like the idea of my 6970 laying around useless, because after all, it's not exactly a cheap card. Any opinions are welcome.

  11. Hi, Is it better to force Vsync in FSX.cfg or in the inspector settings? Thanks!

I have two monitors now. I use one for the main cockpit view, and the other for either expanded sub-panels or a moving map.I'm thinking of getting a small (5-7") touch screen to be used for the fmc. This way I can program the fmc by touching the keys which heightens the realism. At the back of my pc are two sockets for the two monitors. The Samsung 19" one is plugged into the VGA socket, the second (MAG 21") is connected by a DVI plug.So where would I plug the third touch screen?Eytan OrnsteinIntel Core2 CPU E4400 2.0 GHZGeforce 9800 GT 512 MBWindows XP3.25 GB RAM600Watt power supply

I currently have a modest system consisiting of an Asus P5B motherboard with a QX6800 overclocked to 3.4 GZH and a GTX280. The operating system is Vista 64. This has served me well up to now and I am trying to squeeze out every bit of performance before a possible upgrade early to middle of next year. This is the question to the myriad of experts that frequent this forum. Performance gains by upgrading to a GTX 580 and changing the HD to a WD VelociRaptor. These two items may be kept in the upgrade at a later date. Thanks in advance Andrew Dixon

  14. Right, I have 2 GTX285 cards running in SLI to give me an nvidia surround res of 5990x1200 in fsx. It works ok but the frame rate is a bit lousy approaching busy airports like Aerosoft Amsterdam. The rate is ok in single screen mode,it's just when I span across the 3 screens that things go bad. So, after a lot of reading it seems that the 1gig of vram on the gtx285isn't enough. So my question to all you experts is this: Would 2 x GTX580 3gig cards be any better than 2 x 560ti 2gig cards? Apart from the price I mean? Would either of these options be any better than the GTX285 setup I already have? I don't mind about the stretching issueas I run FSX in 2D mode and turn off …

Hello, I was just wondering, is it possible to buy directly from nVidia or AMD/ATI instead of buying a card put together by EVGA, Sapphire, XFX, etc.?Example (Radeon HD 6970, comparison between XFX and AMD/ATI) AMD/ATI:XFX: As you can see, there is a difference. Thanks in advance. :)

Hi, I currently have 2 x 19" monitors that I am looking to replace. My first question is am I best getting just 1 larger monitor or 2 again? I have to say I find a 2nd monitor handy for things like charts, manuals etc. I don't really want to spend more than £350-£400 and I was thinking maybe 2 of these - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-B2430H-Widescreen-Monitor-Gloss/dp/B0037LIOO8 What do people think?

Recently (as in 2 days ago) I started getting a system stutter, black screen followed by the message "Display Driver stopped responding and has recovered'' I have done a complete uninstall of the nVidia drivers and loaded the most recent 275.33. I am hoping it is not the card, it's an Asus GTX 580 and is less than 4 months old.The only recent system change is KB2533623Has any one else seen this issue? ThanksKevin

I am having a display problem with my recently bought 32in HDTV. When i plugged it in my computer for a second monitor, via a VGA cable, I am now getting faint horizontal bars running down my computer monitor. Again, it's only when i plug the VGA cable into my computer, then the bars appear. I have a GeForce GTS 250. Windows 7 64bit. i5 750. I have tried vsync on Nvidia control panel. I also tried changing refresh rate on my monitor from 60Hz to 75Hz, but it changes from moving bars to an anoying constant flashing. Tyler Smisek

  22. I used to play FS2004 years ago and overclocking my old nvidia card using a utility that automatically determined the max oc parameters. Now I've got this new laptop and installed a oc utility called nvidiainspector. it's manual only and I've no idea how much I should push the settings. anyone know if there's another utility that properly manages that card automatically, to the best settings? someone on a Sager forum said NOT to us MSIafterburner with this particular card. no idea if they are right.

After I have seen the impressive VC video of PMDG's 737, I'm thinking about exchanging my 22" Acer with a 30" TFT.Am I expecting a frame drop with the same antialiasing settings between the 1680x1050 resolution and 2560x1600 of the new one with my GTX480 in FSX?What do you think?

  25. After many attempts to get a smooth running sim, I´ve finally succeeded. I´ve installed the latest drivers for my graphic card and low and behold, when I turned on aa in the catalyst control panel to 16x and uncheck aa in fsx, it´s like a whole new sim. The amzing part to me is that crossfire is activated. I´ve read that FSX doesn´t utilize crossfire, but it´s active and everything runs smooth as silk.I landed this morning in Frankfurt RW 25L using the default 747 and the scenery was so amazing especially coming across A5 that it almost looked real enough to make me nervous.Thank for allowing me to share this info.Happy Flying!!George Clark
