I've got real problems with my setup...When I run FSX after having used any other games, my frame rates are around 2 - 3 (two to three!!!).The ONLY way to correct this, is by removing and then correctly reinstalling the nVidia drivers. It's just crazy - never seen anything like it!Anyone got any ideas how to stop this apparent damage to my driver files?Doesn't seem to matter which driver version is installed.Specs in sig. Thanks

This morning I had my first opportunity to do some test flights with my new GTX 590 in surround, and it is a world of difference from my ATI HD 5770. With the 5770 I was unable to fly in weather, with heavy traffic, or in extremely dense autogen (such as Aerosoft's Megacities SFO). Today I cruised around this areas with Traffic X's Airliner and GA both at 100% with overcast sky's, during the day at a smooth 25 FPS (pinned within FSX) and at night w/ UTX night lighting active at about 20 fps. The difference is amazing. I haven't applied too many tweaks to my FSX.cfg yet, so I'm sure that will provide me a few more fps, as will installing the external frame limiter.I kn…

  5. Hi,I am a really late adopter of larger screens as so far been simming (and doing other types of gaming) on a 1440*900 19" Samsung. However now I have decided to go for a new one specifically a 24 inch. What is your recommendation for resolution: the earlier 16:10 style 1920*1200 ones or the more common 16:9 HD screens. I would not do any other activity (such as blue rays etc) other than simming and gaming however I am not sure if modern sims and games support 1920*1200 as well (besides FSX and Xplane I also do DCS and ARMA2)Thanks for your views and most apprciated recommendations,Alex

  6. Hi allOn my primary rig, (specs below) I have two GTX 580s in SLI for nvidia surround. This past weekend I got a BSOD on my overclock so went back and tinkered a but upping both the Vcore and Vram to 1.44 and 1.66 respectively, tested and got a stable 1 hour OCCT. And Voila' No more BSODs.Now I have a strange new problem, the videocards get very hot and the fan blows almost at 100% the whole time I am using FSX. This is new, FSX is only using the GPU from 40-70% but the temps get really really high, into the 90s. The CPU tems are just fine. 38 idle 70 with FSX.I haven't moved any hardware around and all of this started immediately after I tinkered with the overclock.Any…

  7. Hi,Just picked up a Samsung 32 " LED Series 4 4003 to run FSX on ....looks great so far.Questions for those using LCD/LED 's..... is there any setting adjustments on the TV to optimize it for FSX ?GPU is a GTX 580.Also, my Windows desktop is just a little to tall and wide for the screen....when I resize the picture I lose my 1920 X 1080 resolution....is there a way to customize my desktop, but maintain 1920 x 1080 ?thanks !Greg

Hi fellas! First off, long time no see. And by long time, I mean a few years. I miss the good ol' days when I was a regular around here and on Vatsim typically flying under a Continental call sign. Crazy this is that since I was here last, Continental has been merged in to United. I live right where all the planes turn final for 8L/R at IAH, so I get reminded of this merger on a daily basis :Hypnotized: Anyways, heres the point in this post. My old Gateway FX laptop served me well, but it's time to be replaced. From what I have found, I really like the size and looks of the HP Envy 14. Its a sexy looking beast isn't it? :Big Grin:I know FS9 will be installed and that th…

  9. So how's the supersampling performance of ati's cayman xt , it should have incredible raw power. Every thread concerning fsxperformance with this card died down without a real conclusion.I am especially interested in supersampling performance while in heavy weather and around major hubs. Please only responses by people who have one. No "I have heard that..." or "ATI $%$ in FSX".

  10. I saw a demo of someone using a touchscreen monitor for FSX on another site, and it looked like a natural application for FSX. Being able to touch controls on the screen and operate them in the VC is something that I'd like to do. Who's using a TS monitor, and what's your opinion of the technology? I'd like to go 23" or greater, and it would be great to have speakers and camera in the monitor (I Skype my children quite a bit). Looking for some good input here. Thanks, Stan

I am returning to flight simulation after several years absence. I am planning on having a heavyweight system built to properly run FSX. My system would be more or less along the lines shown below: Core I7 overclocked to 4+ GHz 8 GB high end RAM Velociraptor drives NVidia GTX 580 with 1.5 GB or similar I am trying now to decide on monitors. My preferred setup is use one graphics dvi port for a 27 inch monitor as the main FSX screen and other dvi port to drive a 21 inch or so screen where I run Electronic Flight Bag. My question has to do with resolution. I would love to run the main screen at 2560x1440 but almost all of the 27" monitors I see are 1920x1080 (to be TV comp…

Are the Nvidia drivers for older graphic cards? I am reading the features of the latest drivers (275.33) and I don't see any mention of my graphic card. So I am wondering if these driver updates are for newer cards? Should I keep downloading the drivers? I have a Nvidia GeForce GTX 275 graphic card. The only time I ever seen my graphic card mention is the line that says "This driver package supports GeForce 6, 7, 8, 9, 100, 200, 300, 400, and 500-series desktop GPUs as well as ION desktop GPUs. This driver package also includes the 3D Vision Controller driver."

I recently switched by Pre-render setting on my VC from the default of 3 to 1 and I am getting nice results. There were some areas that I fly such as Honduras - Toncontin that I would get big FPS surges/swings. Locking the FPS did help some but did not eliminate them. Pre-render 1 darn near removes all the surges even with frames set to unlimited. Anybody else having good results with this setting? If you have the surges I am describing, give it a try and see if it helps. This setting is in the Nvidia CP or if using Nhancer can be changed there also.Jim

What kind of temperatures should I be aiming to stay below on my video card? I did a Google search and saw people say 70°, 80°, and 105°. Obviously they can't all be right, so I thought I'd ask here as well. Thanks for any help.

Hi Guys,I guess you all have come across with this topic (if yes, then I'm sorry) but I am just curious whether I can run my FSX with dual monitors. I have read a lot of stuff on the internet - all saying that you need matrox dualhead2go (for dual monitor pleasure:D). Is this true? Or is there any other way of running both monitos with FULL-SCREEN MODE. I have GeForce 8800GT which has 512 MB of memory.. I am also running 2 samsung syncmaster 2232BW 21'' monitors. I want to let you know that apart from FSx my screens are woking fine in Windows 7. In just FSX that's causing the problem. This is an example of what I'm looking for:http://http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xhnO2lU2…

  22. Just a few hints if anyone else wants to use FSX in Nvidia surround mode with additional screens...I used to run Eyefinity (3 screens) using a 5870 with an additional cheap graphics card to run a couple of small touchscreens on the same computer. This worked well but when Nvidia announced the surround mode I wanted to try that. I could however never get my touchscreens to work when Surround mode was active. At that time I was using the very first release of the surround-enabled driver so I'm not sure it was even supposed to be possible. So I gave up.It is now supported however, but you need an additional graphics card for the "Accessory displays" as explained at http://www…

Hi All, I recently updated my computer to an i7 2600k CPU, 8GB RAM, solid state drives.I have tried all of the following GPU’s ATI 5870, ATI 6970 and Nvidia GTX 590I am having problems with tearing and vsync, if the vsync is on I get bad stuttering, if it is off then I get bad tearing. The monitors that I have are three Dell 1920 x 1200’s @ 60hz which previously with my old system (i7 920) worked perfectly with FSX at 30 or 40 fps. I have tried FSX running at 30 fps on my new set up with no good results. I have tried the external frame limiter at 30fps but this fluctuates. The only way that I achieve good results is by using an HDMI cable from my PC to an LCD TV which is …

Hello everyone,In the never ending quest to get better visuals in heavy weather, I'm again looking to swap out my 6970 for a pair of GTX 560ti or 570's.My problem is the lack of understanding of how Surround works within FSX. I'm getting conflicting information from different places. It's my understanding that a Surround setup is looked at by the system as a single video card and you would then be able to apply different resoultions accordingly. I have a triple monitor setup, 3 x 1280 x 1024, so with my 6970 in Eyefinity I'm able to choose 3840 x 1024, one widescreen view. Would this not be possible with Nvidia Surround? Also, I don't understand how the memory is allocate…
