  1. Hey guys,I'm finishing up the shortlist of components for my new FSX build, just tossing up between the 570 or 580 GTX cards. I plan on also buying a TH2Go to run 3 21" monitors. Having never used a TH2Go I don't really know how powerful a graphics card I need. From what I understand The TH2Go will just trick the video card into displaying 5000x1000 odd resolution. As such, I would think I'm better getting the best card I can, ie the 3GB version of the 580. Having said that, those things are rather pricey so if I could save myself $200 odd and just get a regular 570 then that would be great.Any advice or insight guys?Cheers,Kael

Hi Guy's,A strange problem has developed with my GPU (only had it two day's) After I load a flight within about 20seconds the screen will freeze, no way to get out of it unless I do a hard reboot. I am kinda stumped as to what would cause this, the first day I had it everything was fine, I have made no changes to my system and for the past few years I have been using an ATI4870 with no problems (all previous drivers etc we're cleaned out)Any ideas? Thanks

Hi folks,Firstly I don't know if this should be in the "MOBO, RAM, CPU's & Other Hardware" section rather than here - I don't know where the problem comes from exactly but it certainly looks like a graphics issue! My current system is as follows, however the problem was also present on my previous rig (same GFX card and OS): i7 2600K @ 4.8GHz, Asus Sabertooth P67 B3, 4GB Corsair XMS3, evga GTX285 1GB, enermax 1kW PSU. I am running fs2004 on Windows XPx64. I have the latest nVidia GFX driver (v170.something) and use nView to run a fullscreen resolution of 3840x1200 over two large 28" screens. I have used Nvidia Inspector to set the AA / AF settings for the FS2004 profil…

  4. Hi everyone, In order to save space on the desk in my apartment, I recently swappede out my 23" 1920x1080 moniter for my older 17" 1280x1024 moniter. I bought the bigger one a year ago and had a GTX 260 for my GFX card. I only noticed a 3-4 fps drop on the moniter. Over Christmas, I purchased a factory OCed GTX460 by ASUS. When I launched FSX, I only noticed a 3-4 increase in fps. I didnt expect much becasue I always heard on here that FSX was CPU bound. However when I recently switched moniters. I get a 10+ increase in fps. I can now play FSX with the same settings but avg. 30 fps and holding steady. I can also use full HD enabled textures from REX. On the bigger moni…

Hi All, I just upgraded to the latest AMD drivers and had to turn off the anti aliasing inside the simulator to get a clear picture. I had lines all over the screen that looked like the structure of the ground, plane and all other items in view. Now I am using the catalyst control panel to control video quality and I think that possibly the shimmering buildings and runway lines are gone and the sim is quite crisp and smooth too even though the frames seem to have gone down a little. I am wondering what others have experienced with this upgrade and if there are any other tweaks that can be used to make this even better. I am running a Sapphire 6950 with 2gb memory on a…

My birthday is coming up and I have requested these items for my computer, but I want to know these Items will work with my pc. Now I have already upgraded this dell computer with a new processor (intel e8400 3.00ghz) and video card (Nvidia GT 240) and it is stable. However I was looking around amazon and came up with a larger psu and a nicer video card. I will include my pc specs so some of you experts out their can confirm that this upgrade is possible. I plan to compensate by upgrading my stock psu with this new one. The items listed are below. And thanks for taking the time to list suggestions. I have run into a problem with my FS9 installation but am unsure of the cause. Any aircraft loaded into the sim works fine until the engines are started; at that point external pans start to move in a jerky fashion, but they still move. After five or so minutes, the aircraft have a uniform grey texture, and the sim eventually freezes. I have to ctrl-alt-delete out of it. The error dialog box generated after that says "hungapp" for the cause. I'm running Windows XP Professional, Version 2002 SP3, with an AMD Athlon 64 processor, 3000+, 1.81Ghz MMX 3D Now with 2.00 MB of RAM. Video card is an NVIDIA GT240, 512 MB of RAM; the monitor is a Gateway EV700. I can run othe…

I have a year and a half old HP Pavilion Elite machine and am trying to run 3 monitors. The native graphics card supports only 2 monitors so I bought a Tritton UV150 external graphics and can now use all 3 monitors; however, when I set up a new view on the monitor mediated by the external card, it is not active. In other words, be it a virtual cockpit view, a spot plane view, or a GPS view, it won't change as the flight proceeds. On the other side monitor connected to the native card by HMDI, a secondary view works fine.Any thought will be appreciated.

I can't seem to find a 1920x1200 led backlit monitor for fsx. I'm looking for 27"-30". So whats more important high resolution or LED in 1920x1080. Also if that's the max resolution on the monitor then I guess you can only run fsx at max 1920x1080 right? If that's the case how does fsx look? Any suggestions?ThanksJohnJJr

As we all know the old ratio 4/3 is still used in FS when one flies 3D virtual cockpit. As I am still using an old - but excellent - CRT Sony 22" in combination with a JVC LDA projector (only for taxi, take-off, climbs and landings for the sake of saving on the lamp duration), I would like to buy a replacement for my Sony monitor BUT, I do not know of any new monitor that would display the 4/3 ratio anymore, one gets only those strange shapes adapted to the 16/9 screen size which I don't want. According to my dealer's advice I can only find a TV to achieve both 4/3 and 16/9, but performance wise it may not be as good as my present CRT monitor he said...Does anyone know/us…

Hey guys!I´m building a new PC with all new technology, Core i7 2600K, etc, etc, and from my research the Nvidia GTX570 delivers tremendous performance, 20% slower than 150 dollars more expensive GTX580. It´s pretty clear to me that the 570 is the winner here, but I wanted to know your opinion. Do you think it´s worth such a large amount of money for the GTX580? I also have a question about memorys, I know this isn´t the right topic, but I don´t want to create a whole bunch of them. Is it worth having 8GB DDR3, vs 4GB?Thanks guys!

Currently running an XFX 5770 as my current rig's GPU set-up but have this nagging buzz in my head that an NVidia card would be better suited for FS9 or FSX. Technical Reviews I can get all over the place but I'm more interested in hearing the views of the hardcore simmers within these Forums. I figure that is much more crucial feedback than Technical Reviews. So, if someone has this card or has used it previously,I'd be obliged to read their views as used within either FS9 or FSX and which manufacturer recommended,i.e.Gigabyte,Asus,et al.Thanks.

I’m thinking about upgrading from my BFG nVidia GeForce GTX 260 OC graphics card to a Gigabyte GTX 570. Since this isn’t a cheap upgrade, I could use feedback as to whether this may be a good choice in the never-ending pursuit of Flight Simulator “nirvana”. Here’s what I’m running: System – Dell XPS 430 w/ Intel Q8300 quad core processor at stock 2.5 GHz speed, the GTX 260 video card w/ 896MB video memory, Windows 7 64-bit OS w/ 8GB memory. Monitors – LG W2252TQ (2)Flight Simulator Version: FSX Gold (i.e. w/ Acceleration)Add-ons – REX, ASE weather, Radar Contact, TrafficX,Orbx Scenery, Dreamteam airports, AES, FS PassengerX, FSCommander v9, and most recently, FSPS Extreme…

  23. Hi thereI was using an nVidia GTX280 for my FS9 setup. Resolution is 1680x1050, and I had a fully customized FS9 with all the AA and AF and quality options at their fullest from the nV control panel working nicely. In some very cloudy situations with many 3d clouds around me (I use REX HD clouds) I noticed the gpu was a bit overwhelmed with my FPS stuttering from the usually locked 30 to 20 or so. I know it is the GPU getting saturated because when I removed some of the AA it was much more stable. I have a core 2 duo 8400 cpu overclocked at 4,1 GHz and 4 GB's of RAM, FS9 with the 4GB tweak in Windows 7 64bit so it is quite ok for FS9.After that, I decided to upgrade, and…

Hello allI currently have an i7-930 (OC to 3.5Ghz), 8Gb 1333MHz RAM, and an ATI HD5770 GPU. I do not use third party airport scenery, nor do I use any form of AI aircraft. Autogen is Low, and Scenery density on Dense. I have applied *******' tweaking tool. I would expect solid performance.Using PMDG 744X at a scenery intensive stock airport such as Heathrow or JFK, I get good FPS using an external limiter set at 30. Flying in the cruise, I always get >30fps. My problem comes when Activesky draws an overcast or slightly more complex cloud formation. This SIGNIFICANTLY hits my FPS when on the ground with very large stutters, sometimes to the extent that it is barely usab…
