I've finally decided to take the plunge and upgrade from my GTX260 in an attempt to "further" my FSX experience. I've decided to go with the GTX560 because it suits my budget and seems a logical progression from the 260. Question is, should I go for an Overclocked edition (saving me a very simple but unwarrantied manual OC) or, should I go for a 2GB version with standard clock? I've read that "usually" the extra memory isn't required unless running more than the one monitor or with super high resolutions. Does this hold true for FSX as well or is FSX more dependant on the amount of RAM?

Heads up, there out and available to order, not on Amazon yet (1am EST but Gigabyte, MSI, PNY and EVGA are all up on the EggWas to have a Asus580GTX on the way all ready but for some holdup and for extra insurance this will be benched on Wednesday: EVGA580GTX Newegg Put in the promo code EMCZZYR24 and get 10% offAll that can be done now is some benchies for some stable temp runs and then a few more FPS runs under old and new drivers before the new card goes in for Benching. Not expecting too much over the 480's but am very pleased with what has been shown about a bit less power draw and the factory cooling that runs quieter than a stock 285GTX and on a par to the Artic Ext…

I read many of the other topics on wide screen monitors and just want to be sure I understand before I buy a new LED monitor Am I correct that the scenery and VC will work fine with a wide screen monitor but that some adjustments must be made in 2d cockpit? I prefer to keep adjustments as simple as possible without having to make all kinds of changes for every aircraft. Looks like if I drag the edges in a bit on each side the 2d will work with a little black space at the edges.. I'm considering a 20-21" monitor. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.Bill

Hey guys...after many years of holding off from building a new computer system I've finally decided to start putting one together for myself (still running on an old 3GH single core, lol) but I need some friendly advice on picking out the perfect display monitor for myself. I'm interested in trying an LED backlit LCD (unless for some reason you feel the LED backlit models are problematic, then just LCD would have to be ok).I always sit within 2 feet of the display and space is somewhat limited for me so i think i'd like to stick with a screen size that won't seem too big when sitting up close as I do (do you think 21-23 would be a good size?).Color accuracy is important t…

Hey Gang,I am looking to buy (mailorder) a GTX-460 for my FSX flying. When looking at NewEgg or Amazon I see text like Overclocked or maybe SE, or most anything, and a whole lots of different brands for not a big difference in price. Could you shed a little light on the big picture here and maybe a recommendation or two to consider? Thanks. It will go in an HP i7 - 870 2.93 Ghz. w/8 GB 1300 ram. 24 IN WS monitor now at 1920 x 1200.Ray

I have a AMD Phenom II X2 545 on a Gigabyte M68MT-D3 motherboard with 4gigs DDR3 ram. I have a ATI HD4670 1meg video PCIe. I am wondering what drivers you are all using. I am dealing with a flicker problem as mentioned in another thread & not having a solution I started just swapping drivers. As this is not very organized I was was wondering what everyone else is using. I will just start from the oldest to the newest until I either fix the problem or really break something :) Any suggestions are welcome.Pat Callaghan

  11. Good Day,Currently running a single ATI 4870 512MB card overclocked to max with CCC. Card is stable and has been doing a great job to this point. However just purchased FTX YMML Melbourne V2 and it is the only addon that has brought the 4870 to its knees. I am wondering if replacing it with an ATI HD 6870 1GB would improve the texture loading and minimize the “Blurries” I am seeing at YMML. The problem is basically with the taxiways and ground textures, even with many settings backed off in the YMML control panel. If I stop the aircraft and set for awhile eventually the textures pop clear. I do not have this problem with any of my other Orbx FTX Hi Def airports. YMM…

I had an opportunity to attempt to measure the lag (delay) in a new Samsung UN60C6300SF 60" 1080p 120Hz LED-LCD HDTV and found by "scientific guessing" at the delay - it measured almost 200->300 milliseconds in Standard mode with Auto Motion Plus enabled and even 100 Milliseconds or more in GAME mode. As yet I don't know why this is true but many gamers are complaining about Samsung HDTVs for having high lag - to them, anything over 50 milliseconds can cause them problems in FPS games. Most professional studies of overall flight simulator lag - measuring the delay from a sharp yoke pull to the onset of motion of the graphical horizon - should be no more than 120 millis…

I've been pondering upgrading my video card recently and was hoping for a little input. I understand that FSX is primarily CPU limited and this is where I seek guidance. I'm running an i7-920 overclocked to 3.5 GHz. This OC was limited by my 1333 MHz RAM and I just picked up some 1600 MHz RAM, so this will likely go to 3.8ish GHz soon. Even at 3.5 GHz, I'm fairly happy with performance being able to run complex A/C, scenery, AI and texture add-ons at least 15-20 FPS and usually around 30 FPS. However, I would love to remove some of those dips down in the 15 FPS region. These occur on the ground at busy 3rd party airports with complex payware aircraft. Certainly the…

  18. Was looking at a nice Samsung 55" 3D TV. Thinking, with Track Ir, 3d FSX, sitting 2-3 feet away from that bad boy should be immersive. The other thought it may be a bit much (bright) on the eyes. The refresh is approx 250hz. Either that or 3 x 24" monitors, or 3 x 32" TV's. The goal is immersion, and I read the 3d aspects of flying FSX is the cat's meow. All replies very welcome. What do you find adds immersion? Thanks for any replies.

Hello, as the topic title says I'm looking to change my graphics card for an nVidia one, seeing how much better these seem to work with FSX. I'm looking at a GTX460, a GTX470 or a GTX560, which would cost about 135, 190 and 210€ new, each.Which one should I consider? Should I get a specific brand? Is, for example, a GTX470 at reference frequency still better than a factory overclocked GTX460 at 815MHz?Here's my system:Intel i5 750 @4GHz4GB of DDR3 RAM at 1600MHz running 7-8-7-24ASUS P7P55D Evo MotherboardHIS ATi 5830 (my current graphics card)1280x1024 19" MonitorRegards,Fabrizio

I'm putting my specs together for a new system: i7 970, 16GB RAM, etc and need a solid recommendation for video card that's not too pricey ... like somewhere between $125 and $175 I've been looking at the GTX 460; what can I expect from this card for FX performance / experience? Like everyone else, I'd like detailed scenery and a generally smooth ride from the board. FSX is the only game application I run; can I get a high quality experience from this board or am I giong to have to shell out more money for that? I'm also open to other board recommendations.I'm considering using the ASUS P6X58D MOBO .... anyone know if the GTX 460 fits in it? I've been using computer…

  21. The newest version of Nvidia Inspector, which is 1.9.54, does an odd thing to my planes. It takes away the shine and gloss that they normally have. I've followed Nick's tips carefully as to the settings. The earlier versions all worked fine, but this newest version seems to randomly cancel out that great shiny aluminum look to a lot of my planes. Does anyone have an idea why it might be doing that?My rig is i7 [email protected] with Windows 7 64 bit, 6 GB of RAM and Nvidia GeForce GTX 295 video card. Normally everything works fine on this rig. This is some strange new anomaly that I can't figure out and it is only since the installation of this new version of Nv Inspector. Perh…

In an effort to extend my system's lifespan, I replaced my 8800GT (512mb) with a GTX460 (1GB). I always run two monitors. My question is is it better to run both monitors off of a single card (the GTX460)or is it better to run the second monitor off of the 8800GT card. Does one method tax the system more than the other? Right now I don't have the 8800GT card installed but it is still a good card. Thanks for any advice on this. Oh yeah, running FSX.System Specs:E6850 @ 3.00GHz4GB of RAMWin 7 64Jim

  23. Well, I've got a pretty cool FS9 setup that works great and I am very satisfied with it. That being said, I'd like to start running FSX as well. I don't think my FS9 system will run FSX the way I want it to and I only have a limited amount of space in my townhouse where I can sim. Unfortunately, a new box seems to be the order of the day for FSX and I'm not sure what to do here.I'm going to run FSX using 3 Samsung 2443BW+ so the monitors will all be the same. I'd also like to utilize NVidia's Surround system. Finally, I'd like to start using Windows 7 64 bit. I'd really hate to loose such a great FS9 box due to a lack of desktop space so I started to look into KVM switche…

First let me say this, I've been running an nVidia GTX-560 TI and am completely satisfied with it's performance in FS9. Simply stellar. Now my TI has 384 CUDA Cores while the GTX-570 has 480 and the GTX-580 has 512. So how does an increase in CUDA cores help performance?Mark
