If I use a 7" touchscreen monitor as a second monitor and drag over say a `windowed` FMC or a `windowed` GPS from the main FSX 2D cocklpit display, will they respond to touch operation??I`ve know that with conventional keyboard method and a second monitor it works OK but I don`t know if FSX+ touchscreen is compatible.I am hoping this will be an alternative to RVInsight`s CDU IIMany thanksGeorge

Hi all. I have a Dell Dimension 9100 with a PCIe NVidia 8600 GT dual DVI video card that has gone bad. I need another dual DVI output card that will perform at least as well as this old card. I'm a little confused about the different PCIe 1.0 2.0, 2.1 , etc. When I bought this machine there was really only the one PCI Express specification. What should I get and who has it for a good price? Thanks!

I wanted to report the results of some tests that I was fortunate to be able to run on a new PC with a 980X 6 core CPU running at 4.0 Ghz (CL7 memory timing) with an Nvidia 470 connected to a Matrox triple Head 2 Go. Three monitors were connected to the TH2Go for three separate windowed, independent views with a large field of view (210 deg) - the center large screen at Zoom=.33 which provides +-45 degrees and the two side views centered at directly sideways with +-30 degrees (Zoom = .7). Two additional monitors were running a helicopter instrument panel and a GPS display. I realize that using three independent PCs could provide even more performance but the goal here was…

I have a GTX285 1MB (driver version 266.35) and been trying to get maximum quality without frame rate drops. (I use FS9 btw)This card can't handle 8xSQ with very dense clouds without getting occational 50% frame drops, 60fps -> 30fps, but it looks so sweet :/Therefore I went back to the old 8xS, which doesn't give any frame drops, but the shimmering... oh boy.So I tried most of the AA stuff in Nvidia Inspector and I found this mode:aa_mode_method_mixedsample_6xI think it looks better than 8xS but not as good as 8xSQ. There is still shimmer but less than with 8xS.And it handles dense clouds fine and in fact the whole sim felt smoother. You can even throw in some transpa…

As my topic states, I am a bit confused as to why FSX is only using 341MB of the 1.5GB available memory of my GTX580. Anyone have any ideas? Would it not be better if more of the card's memory was in use? I am thinking that its using RAM instead.. seems a bit odd, that's all.. To be honest, for all I know FSX only needs 341MB.Ideas?

I stuck to my trusty 9600GT with 512MB for a long time since I was convinced thatwith a [email protected], a videocard upgrade would buy me little (or nothing)..But I could not resist an Asus GTX460 price under $200 and based on some feedbackon these forums that this might actually be a good upgrade, I ordered it..Now that I've had it for a few weeks, I can say: "Really, really nice"!It took the beta nvidia 266.35 drivers to cure some wild graphics anomalies in FSX,but with those drivers installed, the card is rock-solid.Short verdict: I was flying with 24 fps and LOD_Radius=4.5, and now I fly with 30 fpsand LOD_Radius=5.5 - very smooth.I was concerned that my 400W power supply …

Hey guys I have a question about upgrading my gpu. My current setup is a Q6600 at 3.2 ghz, 4 gb ram, vista 32, 8800gt, and I run GEX, FEX, UTX, and alot of plane addons. I use Bojotes recommended config and I am pretty pleased with my performance. But of course always looking for more. I would like to upgrade to a I7 p67 but I cant justify it right now for one program. Would I see any noticable performance increase if I went with say a GTX470? They seem to be pretty decently priced now. Thanks for your input.

Yes I am a noob and have been flying in dx10 mode since I started FSX over 1.5 years ago. For where I fly third party compatablity is problem rarely at night at some add-on airports.I like dx 10 mode vs dx 9 for preformance and looks. Seems to have a large impact looks-wise onmy machine.Tried the dx9 ******* teaks and yes I do get better overall fps in dx 9 mode, but still prefer dx 10.So happy flying in dx 10:)When I messed with the oc on my little 285, it did seem to impact fps quite considerably in dx 10 mode, justcurious if others have had the same experience with th 480/580 series in dx 10 mode vs dx 9? I have seen Spirit's awsome graphic card benchmarking work, jus…

I have two monitors around my apartment and lately realized I could use them as dual monitors with my desktop.I wanted to span my FSX VC across both of them, but after using instructions found on this forum and other sites I couldn't get the VC to span across. What I realized is that Windows 7 was only extending, as the select option clearly said , not spanning. Instead of getting 2720x768 as I wished by putting two 1360x768 together, I just got two 1360x768 monitors. I looked more and found that just nVidia cards on Vista and Windows 7 have this problem. I saw that there is a work around for ATI users.I'm not really sure where to go from here...I only get to use du…

Hi Everyone,Please do not run Kombuster, Furmark or OCCT, or any other benchmark program that gains control over the voltage setting in your equipment. According to both Nvidia and AMD these programs, as well as others that they refer to as "power viruses," will destroy your video card. As a matter of fact nearly all the benchmark testers have ceased using them altogether. In addition, the 580 GTX now has a built in alteration that detects these programs. and throttles back the power. Here is a link that explains it in a bit more detail:No Power Viruses AllowedKind regards,

Hi all,I currently have a GTX285 powering my primary monitor at 1920X1080. I have a second monitor that I would like to use and it has a max res of 1680X1050.I have an older GTX260/192 laying in the closet that I was thinking about using as the PHYSX adapter in some other games. Would it be beneficial for me to use the GTX 260 and plug the smaller monitor into it? I normally put a PFD, CDU and possibly some radios on the second monitor when I am flying.

Hi,Have recently upgraded my grphics card to a GTX 580. Havent had any problems with any other games Ive played since upgrading, but unfortunately FSX is now pretty much unplayable as I'm getting all kinds of strange graphics artifacts when I load up a flight (see screenshots). Sometimes I can actually fly for anything up to 5-10 minutes, but then soon enough the artifacts will start appearing. I've tried rebuilding the FSX cfg and upgrading the graphics card drivers to no avail.Just wondered if anyone had any suggestions on what to do.Any replies would be appreciated.

One topic I haven't seen here in FS-land is any discussion of nVidia's Surround for multi-monitor use. A pair or triplet of 200-series or higher cards can drive a single virtual wide panoramic view on 3 monitors. I know a few guys using it for gaming, but nobody using it on a flight simulator.I do find myself wondering how a pair of GTX580s running three 16:9 monitors in surround mode on a 5760 x 1050 triple-monitor array would work.Anybody tried it yet?CheersBob ScottColonel, USAF (ret)ATP IMEL Gulfstream II-III-IV-VColorado Springs, CO

After nearly 4 years' use alongside 2 matching LCDs, bought at the same time, one of my monitors has decided it is no longer 'plug n play'. Every means I can think of has been tried but it stubbornly remains in its newly adopted mode. How does this happen? I've read a number of threads in other forums - none of them really conclusive. The mysterious acronym EDID gets mentioned, but as that stands for 'extended display idnetification data' I am not sure where pursuit of that would lead.Does a monitor have inbuilt firmware that enables it to be recognised and to operate at its native resolution? The new state it has adopted restricts it to some lesser VGA res so it is u…

Running the latest (Jan 4/11) Beta 266.35's on a GTX 285. Very crisp and clear graphics. Nothing bad to report. Good performance, all around. This driver suite supports all the top end cards, including the 200 series of course.Get them in the Beta section off of nVidia's website, if interested.

I really feel like a complete fool not being able to figure this and for the constant flip-flopping on this subject, but I just made the decision tonight to return or sell the GTX570 I bought a couple weeks ago. I thought I had it figured out by increasing my CPU overclock but I've discovered more situations now where the 570 just chokes and the old GTX260 is fine. Was doing experiments around default KATL in the NGX earlier tonight and I was seeing it drop into the single digits with the 570. Reinstalled the GTX260 and it barely budged off the 40FPS limit in the same situation. I don't know if it's the driver, some sort of weird issue specific to my system or what, b…
