I have just installed a new 120Hz 27" monitor, and am loving it (the resolution is 1080, probably the largest size monitor that 1080 looks OK on, but I can live with that). I'm wondering what to do with my older 60Hz monitor (resolution is 1020, as I recall). I assume that I can not run dual monitors with different refresh rates from the same video card, am I correct? If so, would a second video card work to use my older monitor- and if so, with the second video card what are the limitations for WideView, etc.? What could I use my second video card/monitor for, from an FSX perspective? I'm not talking about SLI, as I have some older video cards here that I have used …

  4. Started by bigglesfred,

Hi All, just installed FSX Gold on my new PC and seems to be running fine but just noticed what I can only describe as a very slight diagonal offset to a part of the display. Probably best visualised by imagining a slight horizontal split say an inch long on a diagonal plane in a picture that had been repaired but the two sides of the split don't quite match up. I've attached an image. The line on the GPS screen moves with the GPS screen. Video Card is an ATI Radeon HD 5670 with the latest drivers. I can't spot what is wrong. Screen resolution is 1280 by 1024 and the system is achieving 30 fps with all the basic settings on ultra high and the other display settings at the…

I have these two video cards. The 4670 seems to have more cores & seems to be a little faster then the 4850 with 1 meg. I don't quite know what to make of it since the 4670 is the older card. Also the 4850 runs at about 43C at idle while the 4670 runs at 57C at idle. Is the temperature a concern? Which card would you use? Thanks. Pat Callaghan

  6. Started by SST,

I have a question regarding multi monitor operations within FSX and what the best video card will be for this type of operation. I currently have a three monitor setup that I use while I fly. My primary monitor is a Hanns.G 28” at 1920 x 1200 resolution. I run FSX in a windowed mode on this screen. Flanking the primary monitor are two ASUS 19” monitors running at 1440 x 900 resolutions. These are used for displaying programs outside FSX as well as other undocked windows that are dragged over and positioned as needed (such as FMC, INS, flight engineers panels, etc.). The primary monitor and one of the secondary monitors are currently running off an Nvidia 280GTX card…

I have a couple of monitor questions. Firstly, on my 2500k system (see my sig) I am using a 6 year old LG Flatron 1400:1 DFC, which has a max resolution of 1680 x 1050. In order for textures to look smooth I have to turn up the AA to a really high setting, but this is very taxing on my system so I normally leave it low and just put up with the bad textures and shimmers. If I upgrade my monitor and ran everything at a higher resolution, would that be more work for my video card than it would to run a high level of AA? My second question is in regards to monitor refresh rate. I get huge stutters if I'm getting any fewer than 60 fps. I've been told its due to the fact that m…

Just wondering if an SLI setup for Nvidia Surround can be done with two 3GB GTX 580 cards. I have one card at the moment and am considering adding another for Nvidia Surround on 3 24' monitors.Would having 2x3GB cards have any adverse affects as opposed to 2x1.5GB cards? Thanks in advance Andrew Dixon

  9. Hi,Strange one this! FSX crash and msg on screen...."graphics card has failed, almost immediately followed by FSX recovery and msg on screen".... graphics card failed and has now recovered..." There is no interruption in FSX prog' running! Maybe it is my memory but I thinkiI have seenthis previously reported with this card; anyone else?, and comments please.A self thought.... could it be a specific keyboard command or control button? WIN7-HP, 32 bit. GigTech EX58-UD3R. 2.67 Intel Core i7 920.Mem 2-204 Mb. My regards Wiggins.

  10. Hi, I have both cards and wonder if someone knows which has a better performance. I had the gtx in my old system (quad core) and got really lousy performance. Now on my new system (2600k OC ) with the ati card I am getting with all sliders to the max between 45 and 50fps. Do you think it would make a big difference if I would put the gtx into my new system. I would appreciate anyone's help. Bernd Jablonka

  11. I've installed a new Zotac 580 GTX. I've 2 24" monitor. My first question is shall i keep the 285 for the second monitor and for Nvidia Physics or would I get better fps keeping only the 580 and attach both monitor to them? I use FSX only in windowed mode on the main display and use the extended desktop on the second monitor for other apps. The second question: is true that in any case with a dual monitor setup I should set the external limiter to 60 fps instead of 30 to get rid of the stutters?

  12. Hi everyone, This is -sigh- yet another performance thread. I'm experiencing very low FPS when I don't think I should be (I shall explain in this post). The Situation: - Full-Screen- Major Thunderstorm Theme- East Midlands, RWY 27- Level-D 767- GEX/UTX/JustFlight's VFR Real Scenery- REX2 I am experiencing just 9FPS at the above situation. These are my graphics settings: Settings: - Autogen: Normal- Scenery Complexity: Dense- Texture Resolution: 7cm- Mesh Resolution: 10M- Water Effects: Mid 2.0X- AA: Unticked (BUT: I have AA forced on in nVidia Inspector)- FPS: Unlimited- Traffic: All A/C sliders below 50%, Road/Boats/Etc no higher than 20%- Lens Flare: ON- Bloom: OFF My P…

I use 2D panels in FSX 95% of the time for performance reasons (at least double FPS). When I have the d3d9.dll in the FSX root folder (regardless of whether it is active or not) my 2D gauges lose their crispness...numbers become blurred and are difficult to read. My question is this : I would like to control colour saturation only. Do not care for bloom, depth of field, extra shaders etc. Can this be done ? Can I just have this entry in the .ini file ? [colorCORRECTION]DarkeningAmountDay=19ScreenLevelDay=60ScreenLevelNight=14DarkeningAmountNight=-30GammaCurveDay=-2GammaCurveNight=6ColorSaturationDay=1ColorSaturationNight=-1UsePaletteTexture=0 Any other tips are welcome...

Hello all. I recently installed a GTX 580 3GB from MSI, the lightning extreme edition. I did a system upgrade over the past 2 months and now have 16 gb's of ddr3 1600 ram, Intel i7 2600k with a asus p8z68-v-pro. I have a 60 gb sata 6 SSD running for windows and a sata 6 caviar black 64mb cache running fsx and other apps. I am getting worse frames then I was with a 9800GTX+, I was getting about 32,000 in 3dmark vantage so I dont think the graphics card is bad or anything. I had to roll back my drivers to an older version as the newest version was causing the display driver to stop working when I launched fsx as well as 3dmark. One I rolled back I was able to run 3dmark and…

  17. I am thinking about getting a new Sandy Bridge based system for FSX. In FS2004, with my old DELL XPS system, I have run triple LCDs under MATROX TH2G using a single GTO 7900 card which worked very nicely indeed. For the new Sandy Bridge system, if I wanted to continue with triple monitors, should I get a GTX 590 card with 3GB of VM or would I be better advised to get an SLI set up with two GTX 580 cards? I am not sure if I will continue with TH2G, I am thinking about Digital Tigers monitors and I don't think they need TH2G (or do they?). Appreciate any advice, thanks! JS

Hi guys,I´ve just upgraded to the 280 drivers. So far no problems encountered. Checked whether the setting for FS9 are the same as prior to the installation and everything is all right. But I found as a option for AA the setting 8xSQ. Is this better as my currently used 8xQ?

  21. Hi gentlemen,Yesterday, my Windows 7 downloaded and installed the (apparently) latest drivers for my two NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GTX+ SLI bridge graphic cards. This morning, after the system was reset, I have again the ugly jaggies in my plane's edges. Before, when the computer was new with the original drivers and using nHancer, after some effort and following the examples I found in the network, the planes looked rather good (not as the ATI Radeon I have in my old computer, but acceptable). Unfortunately, now with those new drivers I could do nothing to fix this and I have spent the whole day looking in forums and changing the configuration without any improvement. Can anyone…

Hi Guys, Maybe you can assist me here with instrument (gauges) issue when dragging unlocked panels to another screen. My 737 cockpit build is running three monitors in non-SLI so that I can expand the desk top over three screens.Back in the days of Windows XP 32 bit and FS9 with intel GeForce 7950 GX2 and GTX460, resolution 1024X768X32 and FSX, I could do this with no drama. With the 2D panel up on the main screen I could unlock the panel i.e. Nav Display (ND) gauge of the 737 and drag it down onto the monitor behind the main instrument panel (MIP) of the cockpit. I believe they called this OpenGL? Now to the problem, I have upgraded my system to i7 2600K CPU with Window…

  25. I have dual monitors a 24" and a 22". I was looking at a 30" monitor. My question is:Will a 30" monitor give me less performance than a 24" - assuming the resolution stay the same? Or will I need to UP the resolution on the 30"'? which will impact performance? Will it be a big hit to fps.
