Hey everyone! I recently purchased a new computer for fs9 hoping to upgrade my fps and visuals in fs9. However the computer comes with intel hd 2500 which I heard is not great for fs9. I am looking for a card that I budget friendly (as I just bought a pc) but will just help my pc with the load a bit while displaying a nicer picture on my monitor. Not top of the line best thing but just good enough to create some nice images or even just act as an upgrade to stock intel hd. Thanks! Nico

  3. Folks If I change from an HD 5870 to the GTX 580 to better use DX10 preview mode: Will I be able to achieve vsync in DX10 mode (I see tearing with my 5870 in DX10 preview) Will the nVidia frame rate limiter work in DX10 preview? The inevitable one - and yes I have read Word Not Allowed's guide - will it achieve a smoother rendering, in the light of my modest AMD dual-core/4 gig/32 bit OS system... I'm considering this as a first step in an ongoing upgrade process. Next would be an Ivybridge processor/mobo/8 gig bundle plus 62 bit. Thanks for all thoughts.

Hi all, I am new to the forum as i am looking at improving my performance of my PC, which is meant to be a gaming unit but i believe that the graphics card is mid performance. my pc is a advent centurion cpd1301. (i made my first mistake by buying it from pc world - prob overpriced than if i did proper research!!!! - i got it a few years back) I have just overclocked the AMD phenom II X2 545 from 3GHz to 3.45GHz, and whilst looking at doing this a couple of articles on the internet recommended an upgrade of the graphics card. I mainly use my pc for flight simulator, will settings lowish at the moment but looking to increase them. I have tried but cos i hav…

Hi guys, I’m about to purchase a 27”, 2 ms monitor for my flight simming activities (mainly 737 NGX). I might use TrackIR as well. I choose the 27” because the PFD has the most realistic size. I was wondering, most monitors are 60 Hz, but I also see some of 120 Hz (which are also a lot more expensive!); how important is that? And what do you most of you have for flight simulation? The 27” Samsung Syncmaster S27B370Hl looks OK to me now, I’d like to pay at most 250,- Euro for a monitor. Are there more things I might have overlooked? Thanks for your response.

  6. It was really p**sing me off when I put FSX into windowed mode and was tracking what my GPUs were doing while flying through crazy weather and cities. I found half the time it would fall back to its underpowered idle'd clock speeds. Sometimes it would boost up to half of what I set my overclock to. Now, Nvidia cards do this to keep temps low and reduce power consumption while not under stress. Well, FSX should be putting stress on our video cards, but I guess either, its not enough for the drivers to care or its just not functioning properly. I needed a fix. I found this: http://www.overclock.net/t/1267918/guide-nvidia-inspector-gtx670-680-disable-boost-fixed-clock-sp…

Hi all. Am upgrading from a GTX 570 to a 670. Can I just unplug the old card and insert the new? Or should I uninstall some drivers first before inserting the new card? Any advice welcome.

Hi I have a couple of questions I hope you can help me with. Currently I have a nice LCD 19" monitor. I am wanting to go up to something like a 27" or 31". There should be no performance changes with a bigger monitor right? What's the best resolution etc for fsx? Also, what I am also thinking is getting another 19" and have dual monitors. I have a AMD Radeon 6450 1gb video card, will I see a performance drop with two monitors? I've heard there can be one. Is that video card capable of running two screens? The next question is sort of a preference. One thing that has always made me hesitant about having more then 1 monitor ( those big wrap around monitors l…

  9. Hi guys, I'm a sim pilot and also a real world pilot and I've been using MS Flight Simulator since 5.1a, but this is my first post in this magnificent AVSIM forum. I've been searching for an answer already, but I couldn't find it yet. I'm orienting myself on a bigger screen for FSX. Now I use a 13" laptop and with the Saitek Proflight Yoke between me and the laptop, the screen is quite small. Especially the PFD is very small when I want to practice an B737 NGX ILS approach on manual flight. So it's clear; I need a bigger monitor! I still need to decide between a 24" and a 27" but I also see differences in reaction speeds of monitors like 5 ms or 2 ms. Is that…

Before going further in investigation to buy other monitors, I would like to understand a little more. I have 3x 1920 x1200 24 inch I use a matrox triple. the size which is most recommended according matrox is 1280x 1024 infact it gives the best size of the cockpit. with the 1920x1080 the cockpit is too small. Now the question is if I want to buy 3x 27 inch and would like to have the same view regarding the cockpit what size of monitor do I need if I want to use the matrox again with higher resolutions but with the same resultin view?

Has anyone got their FS2004 currently running in this resolution on a 24inch monitor? Wondering whether its OK or would I need to up the resolution even higher if I did that? I currently run FS2004 on an 20 inch monitor in 1680x1050x32, would it be possible to get a larger monitor and have the same resolution? Any recommendations of monitors in that size range (24inch)?

I've tried looking around for an answer to this, but couldn't really find a definitive one. I'm recently went from a 560 to a 580 in the hope of closing the gap in performance between clear skies, and when there's complete overcast (I lost a good 6-7 FPS with the 560) and it has slightly improved with the GTX 580. My question is what kind of performance degradation does someone with a GTX 670/680 see with overcast clouds or stormy weather? I tested the 560/580 with addon scenery (UK2000 Heathrow to be precise) as the difference is much more noticeable than at default scenery airports. Thanks.

Only tested these WHOL (not beta) NVidia 301.42 drivers for about an hour tonight, but I really believe I saw faster texture loading (no delay), better frame rates, and high quality, crisp scenery. Flew in Pennsylvania at dusk, and switched to my Hawaii Megascenery departing from Honolulu. Lots of great clouds using ASE and REX for textures. My sliders are all the way over to the right for Autogen and Density, and these drivers performed better than anything else I've ever used. I hope we get agreement from others who try them. I'm excited about these, and look forward to more tests tomorrow. Stan

  16. I cannot believe this. I bought a new GTX 580 and did a clean reinstall of windows and am in the process of reinstalling FSX plus addons(2 week project)). Nvidia inspector is set up correctly with the new 301 driver. I am actually running 16xS and 4xSGSS and am still getting shimmering on buildings. Certain lines are not AA'ing correctly like lines on runways when seen at an edge and the vertical line on the FO's Navigation Display in the NGX is pretty bad to. From about a mile the terminal at Flighbeam SFO is pretty jagged with the jetways and even up close some sections are not even close. At the same time higher levels are improving allot but correct me if I am wrong. …

A buddy of mine has decided to build a machine to get into FSX and thinks using 2 GTX690's would be the right move. I think 2 x 690's is overkill. He plans to run 3 monitors, not sure of the size though. What do you think?

Hello, I am not familiar with all the ins and outs of hardware software issues, I am enquiring as to whether anyone has used or has good information on the use of the Stereoscopic 3D in relation to using PMDG aircraft in two Monitors and are there any pitfalls. Much obliged. richard welsh.

  19. I recently did an experiment using a 30" monitor: going from GTX 570 to GTX 580 gains 6-7 FPS. I wonder if going to the GTX 680 will benefit since going to the GTX 580 from GTX 570 demonstrated GPU limit for large resolution. I had a GTX 570 SLI setup as well and that did nothing to the FPS: same as GTX non-SLI. If someone has this setup and had moved up to GTX 680 please let me know. Thanks (My PC spec is in the link)

  20. Just a heads up with MSI Afterburner. After hours of trying to find out why my new FSX install went graphically wonky, I believe MSI afterburner loads in a version of DX -? that conflicts or causes FSX graphics to get visually encumbered. I hope I am wrong. Any replies welcomed. BTW, Win 7, GTX 580, i7 2600. P8 x77 WS MB.

  21. I find that when using SoftTh with 2 monitors with manually applied bezel correction, I get the best logically rendered views with the option Wideaspectratio set to false. Otherwise I get fish-eye distortion. But everything has its price. With this option I now have over zoomed views, everything is too close, too big. Applying a simple multiple of - to zoom out works some but is actually insufficient. How can I zoom out more than the sim hotkeys let me. I cannot find any entries in the configuration files Would they be in camera files? Aircraft.cfg or panel.cfg ?? Allen

Hi guys, I'm toying with the idea of Dual monitors so I can Expand my Cockpit view but I'm not sure how best to achieve this. Do you think I'll be able to accomplish this via my Graphic Card (GTX 590) or do you advice me to go with Dual-heads to-go. Thanks for any Info and help John Specs: Windows 7/64 - i7 2600k, GTX 590, 8mb Corsair Vengence, ATX 1200 P/S, Sabertooth P67 M/b, Water cooled. FSX, UT2, REXessen, RC4, TrackIR.

  24. Actually quite an easy fix, since it's not a bug, but only the way the camera is set up in spot view. If your VC has the right stereo look you like switch to external spot view and you most likely find yourself in a flat world. To get a nice deep stereo look of your external view just bring the camera closer to the plane using Ctrl + and then reduce the camera zoom (-), done! To make this permanent you need to edit camera.cfg or whatever it's called. I need to educate myself on this. Thanks for reading

  25. Hi this is my first time ever trying HDMI . I have an RCA 32" LCDTV that has 4 HDMI Port. Now at first when i connected the HDMI cable to the graphic card i was getting flashing screen all the time. I manage to fix that by setting the resolution 32 Bit BPP, 1000i, Landscape. But now the only issue i have is when start FSX an go into full screen view i get these red dots all over the place, an the problem is that only on certain things that requires the color red such as landing lights moving service truck that has any detail picture that contain the color red. I don't know if its a graphic problem or resolution problem. But here is the strange part , when i minimize fsx …
