  1. Hi. I just got my gtx690 card today, and I have 3 x 24" Benq 2490HD screens in surround mode. My problem is that when in VC, even when I zoom out max, I am too close to the instrument panels infront of me. I cant look at my instruments and look outside at the same time. I have to choose one or the other, and that makes manual landings quite interesting... :) I am running at 5760 x 1080 resolution (landscape mode), and I think Ive done the surround config correctly. I have set wideaspectview=true in fsx.cfg. Here is a screenshot to demonstrate what Im talking about: Please help me get this in the air! Thanks a whole lot in advance :)

  3. After having been a lurker in the dark for a long time, I think the time has come to express my gratitude to all you guys. I have been a simmer since FS98 following through to MS Flight. Like a lot of you I was shocked and sad about the premature cancellation of Flight. Weighing up my options on what simulator to use in the near future, I decided my road at the moment could only be FSX. (Xplane and Prepar3d have yet to convince me). Yesterday after taking a deep breath, I reinstalled and followed Word Not Allowed's guide precisely. The initial effect was breathtaking, I had never before experienced FSX so fluid and stutter free. Again a big thanks to Word Not Allowed. …

  4. Hi guys, I have been reading through the forum to try to figure out what kind of screen I want to go for next. I currently have a 24 inch screen at 1920x1200, but would like something bigger. I'm an avid user of TrackIR, so I don't really think I need a multi-monitor setup for the simulator itself, but I need screen real estate for all the extra tools. Also, a bigger panel would perhaps make TrackIR easier to use since it allows more head movement without loosing the screen. My options are thus as follows: 1. Get a second 24 inch monitor at the same solution 2. get a 27 inch monitor at 1080 3. get a 27 inch monitor at 1440 I'm a bit worried about the drastic…

If I were to have 2 monitors set up on my computer, would it be possible to have one just running FS9/FSX and being able to have an internet window or something else opened on the other one?

Thanks for reading!

  7. Just curious as to what screen size you guys are siming with these days... When I'm playing on the 360, I usually do it in my dedicated cinema with my 125" Cinemascope 2.40:1 screen and Epson 1080P projector. As for my computer, I have put away the x3 Dell 2405FPW 24" LCDs which I had setup with nVidia Surround and now sim with a Sony Bravia KDL-46EX400 46" LCD HDTV @ 1920x1080x32. I must say that even though it's just one screen, I prefer it way more than having the 3 smaller screens. How about you guys?

  8. Hello everyone. I have a system with i7 2600k (not overclocked), 8Gb RAM and a Nvidia GT530 video card. My question is should I upgrade to GTX550-Ti video card? Do you think it would improve my fps even to some extent? Basically the only thing I do with this desktop is run fsx so other aspects concerning the video card can be ignored. Thanks in advance!

  9. Just wanted to give you guys a heads up that I have listed my 3 monitors up for sale on the Classifieds Thread... http://forum.avsim.net/topic/382788-fs-3x-dell-2405fpw-24-1920x1200-lcd-monitors ^_^

  10. Hello all, In a recent topic elsewhere on the hardware boards I posted a question about affinity mask on the i5-2430m, where I was trying to improve my somewhat poor performance in FSX. We came to a conclusion that my CPU was fine, but rather my GPU was a bottleneck, and that was the cause of my low FPS. The GT525m has shown to be a fairly poor card for today's standards. Now, I know a laptop does not have sufficient power to deliver high FPS consistently with all of the addons that I use, however I do believe I can get a bit more than 10 FPS on the ground in the NGX in busy airports if I were to get the most out of my hardware. So...this is where the question com…

Hi everyone , i dont know if this is the right place to place this issue but here it goes . I am currently getting this black screen issue ever since formating to Window 7 Ultimate 64 bit . I have tried all the fixes in avsim forum one of them is adding a window vista uiautomationcore.dll to my main fsx folder. That didn't work but it helps when moving to some menu items like switching views or something . The problem is every time am flying for a long period of time when it comes to existing let say for example fspassengerx like tring to save the flight i just did my screen goes black an i can still here the sound the engines in the back ground . Currently having a GTX580 I am having the opportunity to buy either a GTX680 or a GTX590 ( both second handed ) for 400 euro. Having read the topic about the amount of shaders being related to fps in clouds I already was thinking about upgrading. At the moment I have a GTX580. GTX580 512 shaders 2x clockspeed = 1024 GTX680 1536 shaders at clockspeed = 1536 GTX590 512 shaders x 2 clockspeed x 2 = 2024 As FSX does not use SLI, I was wondering if the extra shader power from the GTX590 could be an advantage over the GTX690 regarding the drops in framerate in clouds. What do you think ?

  13. Hi, I’m in the market for a new monitor for FSX (instead of having FSX on my 13” screen on my laptop). I’m considering a 27” (with instruments at almost the identical size as in reality) on a 1920x1080 resolution (Full HD 1080p). But now I’m a bit concerned about the image quality of having 1920x1080 on a 27”; the pixels per inch will be like 81 as opposed to 92 ppi on a 24” monitor with the same resolution. I know that also the viewing distance plays a role in this. With my Saitek Proflight yoke between me and the monitor, the viewing distance will be like 31 to 35 inches (80 to 90 cm). This viewing distance can be easily increasing by putting the monitor fur…

  14. New computer - the AMD Radeon HD 6450 is in it. Specs here. The machine is a Dell XPS 8300, i5 3.0, 12 gigs of ram. First - I went to hook up a 2nd monitor, but found that the HDMI (or whatever that is) adapter is different from the one on my other/older card. I have not looked at cards in a long time, and really don't understand most of what I'm seeing there... I've read NVIDIA is "better for FSX" but don't know enough to make a judgement on that! Anyway, I guess the main question is whether I should add another card or replace this one. I'm not looking to spend a lot. I'd like to run at least 2 monitors, and probably 3 at some point. Any guidance app…

Hi, Since the recent drop in price of some high end video cards I am considering replacing my AMD HD4800 with possibly a HD7870/50 or Nvidia GTX 570. My CPU is a 2.7GHz i7 with 6 Gb of ram. I currently get an average fps in the range 15 - 30 fps. However with some of the Orbx sceneries this can drop significantly. Some time ago in the FS2002 days I upgraded a video card and was some what dissapointed with the results. Any idea what I might expect with an upgrade or is the cpu likely to be a limiting factor? With my system being only three years old I am reluctant to dump it for a new one just to run FSX, everything else performs fine for me. Hope someone can offe…

  16. This is driving me nuts! Everytime I switch to full-screen, FSX runs at a lower resolution with hardly any AA and AF. The menu letters are almost unreadable. I have used the beta and WHQL drivers for nvidia and still the same problem. Anyone has experienced this? I followed Word Not Allowed's guide to the T before and never had this issue.

Hi I just installed my new Asus z68-m pro and gtx560. My problem is that the GTX560 isn't being recognized. I cant install drivers and it's not in the device manager. I'm pretty sure I connected the pci wires correctly. But they could be writing (maybe if you have the same set up a pic of that could help me) Any ideas? Thanks Lee P.S all other drivers are ok. The only graphics thing/driver installed is an intel one installed by the Asus installer thingy Sent using Tapatalk

I'm just dipping a toe into multi-monitor use and have some questions. I have a 24 inch, and a 17 inch monitor at the moment (have another 17 and 19 to use if need be later) I have a 5870 ATI card. I have both monitors plugged into the video card. I've noticed when I extend the desktop to both screens I have some "flickering" on the second 17 inch monitor. Almost like its trying to adjust itself to something automatically. It only flickers when I scroll the mouse wheel up and down a page or move a window around, etc. Seems to happen when one screen has a browser at full screen and something might be leaking over to the other screen, not sure if I can explain it better t…

Hi All, I just recently upgraded my video card from an ATI 5770 to a GTX570 HD with 2.5GB. Once I setup Inspector I found the image quality improved quite dramatically. The VC in the NGX and other planes looked much better and panning around was smoother. However, performance with frame rates was about the same perhaps slightly lower. I am having an issue and hoping someone can help before I attempt an exchange. When I fly at airports with addon scenery, (mostly larger ones) if I pan (look) away from the airport for a short time, (10 seconds or so) then look back, the airport ground textures are gone. All I see is grey squares. Then I see them start coming back l…

Guys Is it possible to run 3 monitors on a GTX 560 TI. I currently have two attached and I was wondering if I could attach a 3rd monitor for FSX. Is it possible using a dvi splitter or similar attachment? Currently in FSX I create a new view and drag it across to my 2nd monitor and was hoping to be able to do the same to my 3rd monitor. Many thanks for any answers. John

Can someone who has a GTX680 4GB confirm if this card has a regular sized HDMI or mini-HDMI port? Online store info says mini-HDMI but I read somewhere that says it's a regular sized HDMI port. Can anyone confirm?

  22. I am thinking about upgrading from my basic 19" LCD monitor setup and need advice. I have a 42" 1080p HD TV in the living room that I have tested a couple times with FSX, and with my flight yoke on the coffee table and me about 3' away, it looks very nice and provides a good experience, but it can be pretty hard to read the instruments in virtual cockpit view. So my first thougt was to try to use my computer monitor as an instrument panel view placed just on top of my yoke, with the HD TV still about 3' away. I think this has potential to work as a decent multimonitor setup. I would of course love to have an actual 3 monitor wraparound view, but just can't afford th…

Hi, I posted this in the other hardware forum, as some part related to the tuning guide pinned there, but perhaps this forum is more appropriate. I just re installed FSX after an 18 month Hiatus and am doing the usual tweaking exercise. I followed Kostas advice in the pinned thread and have some good results so far, just needs the final touches I think. First question is: I have 2 GTX580's running in SLi. What are the recommended settings in Nvidia inspector to get the most from this set up? Second question is, are the tweaks listed, the ONLY tweaks that Word Not Allowed would recommend using? I was using a .cfg file generated by the Bojote tweak site, and mod…

Hey Guys, I've been playing around with Dell U3011 and HP ZR30w 30" monitors. Its been the typical game of buying and returning them trying to get a good one with both brands. I think I've finally found one that might be a keeper, a Dell U3011. However I am not past my return date yet, and am wondering how something like a 42" to 46" 1080P HDTV display might look in comparison with FSX/Prepar3D.. I like the display as close as possible to my Saitek Cessna Yoke so the instrument panels in the VC meet the yoke for a better perspective making the two more like one. So am I gonna have to sit like 6' back from an HDTV to get a crisp picture, or can you sit pretty close to …
