EVGA 275 GTX vs. EVGA 470 GTX vs. EVGA 480 GTXSummer morning over Darrington Washington (480 GTX) Darrington 1 The following are comparative screenshots that are carefully reproduced so that they are apples for apples for apples, with identical equipment and settings, except for the graphics cards used. However, there are 2 factors that mitigate the results, as follows: 1. The GTX 275 was tested with the CPU at 4.2ghz while the 470 GTX and the 480 GTX were both tested at 4.34ghz. The 480 GTX was tested under similar conditions to the 470 GTX, however Nhancer was not used, as was the case with the other two since the new Nivdia 200 series driver was used which …

Hey guys I currently have a GTX 470 on my 2500k system running at 4.6. I use REX and mainly fly in ORBX land. I have my system set up as per Word Not Allowed's guide. I have been looking at upgrading to the GTX 670. Would this be a worthy upgrade? I use high levels of AA and in heavy clouds my system does seem to struggle a bit. Thanks

Is there any difference in overclocking a video card? And using Nvidia's Inspector software, is it safe?

I currently have an AMD HD6970, and I am ready to ditch it. I am running an eyefinity setup with three 24" monitors @ 5760x1080. I was wondering if the EVGA GTX 670 with 4 gb video ram would be a good choice for a surround setup? It is only $25 cheaper than a 2 gb GTX680, so I am wondering if the 680 with only 2 gb video ram would be a better choice at realitively the same price point? From what I have read, there is not a huge difference in the performance of a 670 and 680, and FSX is the only thing I run. Would the extra 2 gb VRam make much of a difference in a multi-monitor setup in FSX? I am really unsure of which way to go. Anyone have any thoughts or…

I've got a 27" monitor at 2560x1440 and have noticed serious performance degradation over the standard 1920x1080 (not surprising given there's nearly 80% more pixels) but I was wondering if there were any specific tweaks that would help regain some of the FPS difference? I have a 3GB GTX 580, so as far as I can see, reducing AA doesn't really help.

Two days ago I switched from a 22" Samsung LCD Computer monitor to a 32" Samsung LCD TV. I am noticing an increase in pix-elation in FSX. Is there a way to decrease the pix-elation and have the picture crisp and clear? Thanks... Ciaran

Wanting 3D without the high price tag, looking at a 40" 120HZ LED TV. It is not a 3D TV. Anyone running 3D on a non 3D TV? Despite the 120 refresh rate, I was told the TV has to accept 120HZ to do 3D. To much internet reading vs real life experience. I think it should work. I know active shutter glasses are needed. Any thoughts welcomed. Thank you.

Hi, I posted about a new PC build in the other hardware forum yesterday, but because of exams and stuff id forgotten everything about hardware so I did a bit more research and this is the setup I think is good enough for whatI want Id like you guys to comment on any hardware upgrades that I may need. Ok so what I wanted was to run FSX in 3 screen Nvidia surround and be able to get at least 20-25fps minimum and 15-20 fps at busy places like NY etc. Also wanted for a few light add ons such as aircraft add ons and maybe a couple of airports. So here is the spec I am hoping to get... CPU: i7 3770K Cooler : corsair H60 water cooler Motherboard : Asus P8Z77-V LX RA…

Hi all, I have a GTX 285 connected to a TH2GO digital edition which is connected to 3 x 24" Samsung monitors. The GTX 285 can itself drive two monitors. If I add another card (a less powerful Nvidia card), could I connect one of three monitors to that and the two to the GTX 285, thus getting rid of the TH2GO? The idea behind this is to improve the resolution or will it have a negative impact? Thanks Daz

I'm wondering, how does this work? Googling didn't help much -- some people say it cam't happen, but the best I found was a wiki article that suggests it is possible to send HDMI-formatted packets over a DVI (single-link at least). I'm assuming the display must be HDCP to enable this mode? I have a GTX-580, and it shows there are 4 different Nvidia HD audio devices in device manager. NVidia control panel shows DVI(1), DVI(2) and HDMI, so I don't know what the 4th device is? I have tried both DVI connectors on the GTX-580 to my Samsung HDTV DVI input and they both work. The only option in windows 7 sound manager is for stereo, I'm assuming it's just LPCM. don'…

Hello, I am using ATI CF Xtension in order to enable both cores in my 4870X2. I have triple monitor with TH2GO and noticed a big improvement in FPS. The problem is that I can't make REX to work anymore. I suppose that it search for fsx.exe filename, but I had to change the .exe to "crysis.exe" for ATI CF Xtension setup. Thanks in advance!

Hi, I'm new to this forum and I just want some help building my pc so that it works the way I want it. I have the spec I think i'm going to be getting in it and would like some comments and advice on wether anything needs changing/adding. So first of all here is what I want my flight sim to do. -The main one, run on 3 screens in SLI mode seamlessly -Run at max settings and still be getting at least 20fps in most places (+- a few fps at busy airports eg NY) -Be able to handle add-ons such as scenery add ons and a few aircraft add ons I looked into this a while ago but it has been put on hold with exams and things so I'm reposting on this forum but back then I w…

Greetings everyone I'll try and keep this simple. I recently upgraded (?) my GPU to a PNY GeForce GTX 680 (traded in my EVGA GeForce GTX 580) and I have been experiencing annoying stutters when panning around in Spot or Locked Spot views in FSX. All other views do not exhibit the stuttering effect. This is always happening when descending to my destination in more detailed IMC weather conditions (ie. overcast/CB/rain) which I intentionally set up using current version of ASE2012. I fly the PMDG 737NGX. My frames are consistantly good (30+) however the stuttering effect is always there. Here are some of the modifications I have made with no success: Optimized …

Thought people here might be interested in this news: Silicon Micro Display rolls out $799 ST1080 wearable display http://www.engadget....arable-display/ 1920 x 1080 native 0.74 inch LCoS 45 degrees diagonal field of view 100 inches at 10 feet (at 3 m) virtual image 10% see-through HMD type 2D and 3D-ready 6.3 ounces (180 grams) I have always been waiting for the time that I can fly FSX with an affordable 1080p HMD plus TrackIR. The visual experience must be awesome. On top of that ST10880 could naturally support 3D which I'd love to see how FSX will look like too! The price of $799 also sounds fantastic. I believe any other HMD capable of 1080p reso…

Hi all. I'm using a 680 now and compared to the 590 I pulled out the FPS loss is quite a lot and stutters are shocking. We all know there is talk about the VSync problem with the 300 series drivers, however I have noticed that my stutters with the 680 are near the water, if I reduce the water effect to nothing I'm fluid again and fps go back to 30. (using kostas tweak) I had the water effect set to high as per Word Not Allowed's recommendation to avoid flashes and I use REX for my water textures. This makes me think that I maybe using wrong settings in REX or shaders or something, can anyone help out here? thanks IM

Or should I sell it and buy the comparable Nvidia card (used as well so I wouldn't necessary be shelling out more money). I always hear Nvidia does FSX better but is that still true in the past few years of newer ATI cards? What Nvidia card is comparable price wise (used price for used price) that would result in better FSX performance/smoothness/AA, etc. compared to the 6950? Or is the 6950 the best card at the used price point? I guess my biggest complaint is that most tweaking utilties and programs (FXAA, Nspecter, etc.) that highly benefit FSX are all Nvidia only.

Hi Everyone, I recently changed from a Nvidia 460 to a GTX560TI. The card works fine with the exception that none of my "shift + windows", work anymore. When I try to pop up one of these windows I see the "frame", of the window for a split second, and then disappears. I have tried from the 275 to 301 series drivers using a clean install each time. The result is always the same. I have also tried these drivers combined with different versions and setting in Nvidia inspector. Same results except that with the 301.** series I get stutters and pauses and FSX shut down. This is a problem I have never seen, nor heard of. I am no guru. Any help or suggestion on how to …

Hi, I am intersting to know what is te relation between resolution and FPS. I mean, I have a good computer and I have good fps, but my monitor is 17 inches. I am thinking in buy a bigger monitor. More inches I think means more resolution. So with more resolution there is less FPS? Thanks!!!!!

Hi All Have just completed Kostas latest tune up with amazing results. I now find that my Gainward 480 GTX is doing more work and temps. are up in the 90s. I am prepared to buy a new card and did see somewhere that the 600 seris will handle this and run cooler. Which one is best for my system? 2600k @ 4.8 ghz 1.375v, gtx 480, asus p8p67 pro, corsair vengeance 8gb @ 1600mhz, Noctua NH-D14 with PMW, HAF coolmaster, Corsair HX 850w,

Hello everyone - my 1st post I've been an MFS user for a very long time and never used X-plane until now. I recently got an Asus 7970 Direct CU2 and it is a monster!! I installed XP10 last night and have been playing around with the rendering settings and am getting around 20-30 fps average depending on clouds and proximity to airports on a 3 monitor eyefinity setup. I was wondering if anyone here has the same card and have come to a conclusion on what the best rendering settings are for the 7970. Any comments are welcome!

I'm just trying to understand where I could hope to get better performance WHEN I've upgraded to my next platform, which will be either IB or Haswell. The graph set attached is from a test flight out of ORBX's new KJAC. Of note, the big jump in GPU use happened concurrently w/ a hard stutter that happens on occasion, especially near complex airports, though not sure if this is a red herring or not. The hard stutter issue is something I don't believe I ever had until I installed FSDT software, though honestly I'm not sure if there is really a connection there or not. It's also quite variable, i.e., happens sometimes quite frequently, primarily very early in the flight,…

Hi, brothers in wings! I decided to write here as I know this subforum is regularly visited by simmers having much deeper technical knowledge than me. So I have hopes that someone can help me cure my maddening problem. All my specs are in my signature. The problem I am experiencing is blurry ground textures (and jaggy - dotted roads). Of course it is a long-known problem and there are many threads about it. I'd like to tell you that I read all of them (down to the year 2004!) and tried what seems to be each suggested solution. And even though I can see some improvement, it is still rather bad and I find myself reluctant to fly! See: Not to rewrite whole…

I used all Word Not Allowed's tweaks and installed the latest driver released this week for my NVidia GTX 680 2G and enjoy my FSX experience. However, I still have a nasty problem (that is not systematic but very frequent with FSX: 1- If I go to an FSX menu, chances are that I may get a corrupted or flashing screen or with incomplete picture rendition (buttons visible but no more panels) when returning to FSX (full screen mode) 2- If I put FSX in Windowed mode to have access to other programmes such as MCE, I may have the same corrupted screen when returning to FSX in full screen mode 3- If I reduce the FSX window to the task bar, I may not be able to reestablish it in…
