Unfortunately, since it's done on two different machines, it's not 100% correct, but we get the idea. First, there is a FSXMark11 comparison. 2500K @ 4.7 + GTX680 resulted in 43.7FPS. This is actually quite poor for a new crown king card, because... A comparable system: 2600K with HT off @ 4.7 + GTX580 results in 47FPS, while other components are quite the same At first I thought, nah, probably something wrong, there is another user having: 2500K @ 4.6 + GTX480 resulting in 43.1FPS So wow, apparently this new card is actually worse than GTX580? Since these are all synthetic tests, they all do show one thing. I hope we can get more 680s flowing in the m…

I am considering trying out a larger LCD display in-lieu of my current Matrox 3H2G0 set up (3x22") monitors. I want to make sure I am not missing a wow factor. I have a couple of questions 1) Has anyone else made that transition in either direction - large screen to 3H2Go or 3H2Go to a single large screen? What were your impressions? Better, worse, different - ultimately what was your preference? 2) What is your recommendation on a good LCD LED that has quick response time. I don't want lag. The matrox has been great and is great but my performance does take a high running at 5040 x 1050 resolution. To help mitigate the impact, I am considering the si…

Hi All, This problem has finally annoyed me enough that I'd like to find more info on it. See the attached image - within the black box I have drawn are three cumulus clouds that shouldn't be visible. Why?? Because they are several miles behind the big cumulus cloud that should be obscuring it. This problem is rampant enough on my machine that certain weather themes look so bad as to be unusable (for example Grey and Rainy where the lower stratus layer sometimes completely covers a large cumulus cloud above it). I have had a very hard time finding any info about this problem - what few threads I have found on the net don't seem to offer any suggestions and I don't hea…

I have fresh install of FSX, on a fresh install of windows and I am currently playing around with various settings to get the right balance of performance and image quality. I would like to share my observations fro discussion and comment, especially in light of recent developments in graphics area of FSX. My system is an unoverclocked at present i7 950, 6GB ram and 2 GTX580 in SLi, Dell 30 inch monitor. I have Orbx scenery installed currently , although used to (still am) a big fan of photoscenery. I use complex planes like the Superbug, Iris F-16, etc. I am using all Word Not Allowed's suggested settings in my .cfg file, as well as some others generated by the …

I've been doing a bit of reading of threads on various related subjects but still have a few questions. I am thinking of getting another two 27" 1080P monitors along with a GTX 680 but I'm curious if anyone here can comment on triple monitor performance more in-depth. Specifically, I would like to know if anyone has VRAM usage numbers for a "worst case" scenario (say ORBX + NGX) @ 5760x1080 + AA. I want to get a 2GB 680 but if it's not going to be enough then I either need two of them or to wait for the 4GB models. Also, if anyone could comment on FPS numbers compared to single monitor that would be helpful. Thanks in advance

Hi folks, Im going to be starting a new build shortly and i need advice on a g/card for fsx (in particular) and fs9. Currently im looking at a i5 2500k chip (so i can oc) either a z68 or a z77 mobo, 8g(2X4gb sticks) of samsung 1600mhz ram, and either a gtx 460 or 480 card - i have about 200-230gbp to spend on my card, but could increase it if it was going to be benificial, i realise i pretty much need 1.5 g of vram, and i am also prepared to oc my card(if i get a card with 700 core and i can clock it to 800 or so, then thats fine). Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Regards EDIT: to add i will be getting windows 7 64bit so i can utilise all 8g ram

Hey guys I recently got a hold of a gtx680 to replace my 6950. I am running 3x25" monitors in a corrected bezel resolution of 6034x1080 except when FSX loads its not maximized across 3 monitors. When I click maximize it only maximizes to one monitor and I manually have to stretch it to all three monitors. Does anyone else had this problem? Ive been researching nvidia settings for fsx but it has not resolved my issue. Thanks for any help.

Hi, I have a Dell 30 inch monitor, have had it approx 2.5 years, last year, I swapped various PC components around and tried a 3 monitor set up using 2 GTX 580's in SLI. I did not get on with it and so went back to suing the 30 inch and an additional monitor. Since then, I have been unable to run the monitor at its native resolution of 2560 x 1600, as if I do, the fonts are messed up. This also happens if I plug it into my other PC. I have tried re installing windows, re setting the monitor to factory defaults, updating the drivers, using clear text, adjusting font size, changing video drivers, nothing works. The actual video is fine in game, but anything with text is…

Hi all, First, let me qualify this by saying I'm currently running two monitors (I forget the video card - it's at home) but have most everything turned WAY down/off since I'm only using this system for IFR practice. That said, I'd like to add a third monitor dedicated ONLY to the out-the-window view. Current setup is all instruments on main screen with a little out-the-window view, 2nd monitor contains radio stack and GPS. The computer, and Optiplex 330, runs it just fine, but I'd like to free up real estate on my main monitor to add some stuff. I've looked around but am not familiar with doing this other than having seen the Matrox TripleHead, but I'…

Each vendor, ASUS, Megabyte, ASRock et al have a range of MBs from 100s to 300s. Apart from the obvious featuers like number of 6GB HDs and WIFI and Memory slots and 3.0USB vs 2.0 USBs IS there a difference is OCability which is not so obvious? Lets say, I decide on ASUS and the 77chipset (Known ....at least for me) as a vendor, next I look for the feature sets that I need. With that as a criteria I elminate and come up with a set of MB that has all the features I need, I now look for the OCability... but I don't have any parameter to go by except the price. IF the lowest cost MB has all the feature set that I need, would I be risking the OCability by going for t…

over at Microcenter for $350. The price has dropped allot since I built my computer. I know I have posted about this before but I just have this nagging feeling that I am bottlenecking at my video card. I am now overclocked at 4.8 and very stable. I notice the things that slow me down seem to be video card related but I would like to hear others input on that because I am just not sure. I am flying into Vancouver (Orbx) with 1024 rex clouds in the NGX and am on approach am getting not quite loaded texture scenery, landclass textures and mesh(mega blurries). I notice with the Orbx stuff it is hard on my system. The autogen really hit hard in this area and the low fps and s…

Since I've been thinking of getting the Yamakasi Catleap, a monitor for €330 incl. shipping, an IPS screen the quality of the Dell, but for less than half the price, delivering 2560x1440 in 27inches, is just... for the lack of the better word... awesome. :yahoo: Now, I tested on my current screen (it actually managed to show the resolution, if even in the bad quality), what it means when I crank up to 2560x1440. I lost 20% of the performance! So, I don't know if this is overkilling now, but I'm looking at another used GTX580 on Ebay, which is going for €200 now. I don't know what the selling price is going to be, but, nonetheless, it's interesting to kn…

I downloaded the newest drivers and Catalyst from the ATI/AMD site yesterday morning and, as i was in a hurry on my way out, I installed the new CCC without... uninstalling the old one!!! Yes I know stupid, stupid, stupid! As you can guess, all I got was a black screen when I restarted my PC, having gone into safe mode I could roll back to the previous Windows XP situation but without the old ATI CCC. Now I cannot uninstall the remaining ATI files (I get an error message each time I try), neither can I install the old or new ones. I left an SOS ticket at ATI support but as it is Saturday, I won't get any assistance before a few days. Has anyone encountered this silly sit…

Out of the blue got the BSOD created by the Nvidia-related nvlddmkm.sys issue. So, tried to install the latest driver after doing a Safe Mode uninstall, Registry clear-out, etc, etc. Tried to install the latest 296.10 WHQL driver but when I ran the setup.exe, I get a n error message that Nvidia Installer Failed. Tried to roll back to 285 drivers, same error. Anyone any idea what is causing this, or is the usual Nvidia habit of releasing buggy drivers?

Hi all, I see from people's signatures that my own PC (bought in '09) is modest, but I also understand that running MS Flight is less CPU intensive than FSX, as Flight unloads some of the work onto the GPU... I am therefore looking at my 'old' system and wondering what would offer the best bang for the buck in terms of upgrading the Radeon 4850 graphics card... CPU - Intel Core2 Quad Q6600 (4 X 2.40GHz) 1066MHz FSB/8MB Cache RAM - 4GB CORSAIR XMS2 800MHz Mobo - ASUS P5K SE: DDR2, SATAII, PCI-e x16, 2 PCI, 3 x PCI-e x1 O/S - Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Graphics Card - 512MB RADEON HD 4850 PCI Express + DVI Any suggestions gratefully received... I sure hope, desperately, that someone can help overcome this very recent problem I've been having. Perhaps there are those out there that can relate having had similar problems, or someone may have a knowledge of the workings of FSX and it's technical attributes when it comes to hardware. This problem has just recently cropped up since the weekend. Up until then, I had no issues as described below. It was only after I installed a demo copy of the recently released demo of Ship Simulator Extremes, which has already been uninstalled. My system, well ... the specs are below in my signature. I have the two GFX 560ti cards in SLI to produce a surround display (spanned) a…

Hello, I'm getting a new PC, and next month I will pick up my new video card. The new PC is mainly composed of: i5 3570k (planning to run it as high as it gets, possibly 4.5-4.8Ghz) Noctua NH-D14 cooler (to get it as high as possible, considering the heat it seems to deliver) Asrock z77 extreme4 8GB Corsair Vengeance DDR 1600 Corsair VX550 PSU Now, I'm picking up a new GPU for it, which I will be able to buy next month. Since the new nVidia cards are coming out I will probabily wait for them, but I know that new cards not always deliver better performances in our sims, since they rarely make use of the whole range of new features like normal videogames do…
