I am considering upgrading my GTX460. I have heard that the GTX660 (that is to be released this month) is approximately the same speed as the GTX580. As my current card only has 1GB of video ram, and now that I am now running a Dell 30” monitor at 2560 x 1600 resolution, I would think more video ram will help FSX. But which card should I purchase? The GTX660 will have 2GB of video ram as opposed to the GTX580 that has 3GB. I am assuming that the GTX660 will be more affordable than the GTX580. Does extra video ram made a substantial difference in my situation, and if so is 3GB better than 2GB?

Yesterday I bought a HD 6570 1GB DDR3 at a very cheap rate here in India and tried XPX and FSX but it in FSX there was not much of a difference (I know FSX is more cpu dependent), in XPX I got a boost of 7 frames, but today I went and changed the card for a HD 6750 2 GB DDR3 have not yet fitted the card in the machine but will do it tonight and I hope it gives good boost. Will post once the card is installed.

  3. I just setup a new state of the art system but still have my first 20" 4:3 LCD monitor connected to it that has worked flawlessly for almost 8 years. I run it at the native 1600 x1200 resolution which has done well for me in FS9 and FSX, as well as other sims and FPS games. I resisted the widescreen mode, since to get a 16:9 monitor of roughly comparable size, I would have to go to a 25" screen. Also, 1920x1080 is lower resolution when the screen dimensions are taken into consideration, so I've resisted that change. What are the opinions here? Is it worth making the change to 16:9? Is 1080p sufficient resolution for FSX when considerng a 27" widescreen monitor?

I just bought an Acer LED S200HL with max resolution of 1600x900. The problem is at this resolution I loose fps in FSX on sig rig, so I tried lowering the LED resolution to 1440x1050 but it does not allow. And if I set 1440x1050 in FSX I get a blank screen when after loading a flight. Should manually force the resolution in CCC ?

Hey gang,Ok so I am getting the itch. The same itch I seem to get every year or two at the max, to do some hardware upgrades.I am pretty happy with my current system, although I get a little jealous - and tempted, when I read of other's overclock with the SB chips. My system is currently running rock solid at 4.1 ghz, and performance in FSX is pretty dang good.I run FSX with the following addons:FS Genesis MeshUTX USAGEX NAREX2 ODI run my REX clouds at HD, with the 2048 resolution setting. Looks beautiful.Ok, so I know I will be building a new system before too long - at this point though, figured best to wait for Ivy Bridge and just skip Sandy Bridge. So that brings me to…

  7. Hi y'all,This is my first post here on Avsim, so hi! I'm wondering which will give me better performance in FSX; the Sparkle GeForce GT430, or the GTX580. The GT430 has much more memory, at 4GB, which is a lot, but it only has 96 stream processors, and a 128-bit interface. The GTX580 I have open in another window (which is just a random 580, not necessarily the one I'll get), has 512 streamers, and a 384-bit interface. The question is, will the stream processors and interface help FSX performance, or is mainly just the memory? Here's the links to the products;GT430 - http://www.newegg.co...N82E16814187173GTX580 - http://www.newegg.co...N82E16814130587The Core Clock, and S…

Can anyone explain why when I enable the ENB Series mod I experience a loss of sharpness to the whole display? I use the SUPERCAA 64x_4v12 setting. Without ENB Series enabled I have wonderfully crisp image quality. When enabled the whole thing looks as though it has been slightly softened. This effect does not occur if I use 8xS or 16xS antialiasing, but I much prefer to use 64x_4v12 as the sim looks better and runs smoother for me on this setting. Is there any way of avoiding this effect?

  9. I'm upgrading my 7+ yo AMD Athlon 64 3200+ rig. I've purchased an AMD Phenom II X4 970 and a Gigabyte GA-970a-D3. Now I'm looking at video cards. Since I'm on a tight budget, I've been considering an Asus GT430 with 1GB DDR3.I've always used nVidea, have always read they are best for FS. Just curious about a Radeon 5670 with 1GB DDR5 for about the same price.I'm very happy with FS9 and, while I have FSX, I doubt seriously if I'll do anything other than install on a separate drive as I've currently done.Thank you in advance for advice.Bob

  10. Hey everybody! We finally got a new computer:HP PavilionIntel Core i5-2320 @ 3.00GHz6GB DDR3-1333MHzAMD Radeon HD7350 512MBI installed FSX using NickN's guide. I have DX10 preview checked and almost all sliders to max/ultra. Everything seems to work ok except.... The sky looks like a huge tiled dome?! I get a lot of stutters ( locked @ 40fps; average @ 25-30fps; stutters go down to 5fps) I also added "[JOBSCHEDULER] AffinityMask=14" to my fsx.cfg as suggested in this topic. My guess is it's the GPU. Is my graphics card causing the problems? Would upgrading help? Think it's something else? Please let me know what you guys think.Regards,NatanaëlP.s. I have recently changed from a 24" HP monitor to a Samsung 46" D7000 3D for a monitor, native resolution is 1920x1080, probably a bit low for this size of screen. My video card is an nVidia GTX560 with 2GB of memory. Is it better to use an HDMI 1.4 cable or a DVI cable to hook my computer up to this TV? I am using an HDMI 1.4 cable now, but am wondering if a computer would use the DVI approach better or perhaps it does not make any difference?Appreciate any and all comments.

My 9800 GTX+ died yesterday. Perhaps it's a little early after the funeral, but I really yearn for a replacement in order to continue running FSX.I would appreciate any advice on what would be the least expensive way to go without limiting performance on my computer (listed below).

I run a single LG-W2361VV for FSX. I always had it set at its native resolution - 1920x1080.After reading a thread stating that higher resolutions lower performance (which I always knew), I dropped it down to 1680x1050 to see if I could squeeze a little more out of my system.. I'm not sure if I notice a difference in performance. So when I read this thread, it says use native resolution for performance and higher resolutions lower performance.http://forum.avsim.net/topic/342230-can-a-lower-resolution-hurt-performance/page__p__2052591__hl__native__fromsearch__1#entry2052591What do I do? Use native resolution or lower it? I can't do both at the same time.

Hello all,I've decided I'm going for the ultimate flight sim setup, and a big part of that obviously is figuring out the best display format, and consequently the best gpu or gpu setup.I like the look of a triple monitor format, especially after seeing some of the flight sim chair/cockpits I'd use it with. But I have seen on forums that some don't like having three screens, and/or they find having so many displays is taxing on the frames. If I do end up going with three displays, which is the best gpu(s) that could allow for optimum performance in such a setup. I guess the question to ask is.. nvidia sli, or a single radeon with eyefinity, say, a 6970? According to Nickn's…

  16. I install the new NV driver 295.73 on my system FS9 (windowXP SP3/GTX 460 1024MB/Intel core duo 3.33GHz E8600) expecting touse the FPS limiter from NvidiaInspector. The new driver 295.73 is very stable and works great with the NVInspector setting (see picture), except the FPS limiter !!In FS9, I set the FPS on unlimited and 29 or 30 in the NVInspector. My real FPS remains max., which means fluctuation between 55-70 FPS.Does it realy works with FS9 oe FSX? Should I change something in the fs9.cfg file?

  17. Hi all -- I discovered it has 5 blown capacitors tonight on my 7600GT. It's served me surprisingly well in it's five-plus years of service, but it's time to move on.I'm looking for advice on replacing my relic of a card, , and about what other components I might upgrade in my current set-up (see sig), and then move to a new build, maybe around Xmas time (which would coincide with a move to the Win7 OS).My thoughts were to buy a replacement video card, along with upgraded memory and PSU (Enermax 565W)right now. Is that a sound approach?A couple observations: My MOBO will only take DDR2 memory. Is that going to be a performance issue when I do a new build? Maybe if I u…

Hey guys I just started having this wierd problem. I noticed my FPS were running very low and my FSX load times were very slow. I pulled up my Nvidea Inspector and my GPU load was at 96%. It was also running very hot. If I remember normally it would run between 40% to 60%. What is wierd is sometimes I can restart FSX and it will go back to normal. I have tried updating my drivers and deleted my fsx cfg and let it build a new one. No change. My system is a 2500k at 4.6 stable, 8gb ram, GTX470 card. Maybe my GPU is going south?

The computer that i am using is hp pavilion dv6 6096, i7 2,00GHz, and Mobile Radeon 6490M. Anybody have any idea what is happening?Thank you!Ivan

Does anyone use multiple monitors with different resolutions on each?Would running different resolutions cause a performance hit of any sort?I'm just curious because I have two 22" monitors but one runs 1920 X 1080 and the other one is 1680 X 1050.I typically fly the PMDG 747 and the 1680 X 1050 monitor is where I put the overhead, lower EICAS and FMC panels. The 1920 X 1080 monitor is where I have everything else, be it the 2D cockpit panel or the VC and it's where I switch views. My performance is alright, I'm just wondering if it would be better if I had two 1920 X 1080 monitors. Thanks!
