Until now I tried to use 3 monitors on different AMD eyefinity cards, almost always with a negative result because you always needed to have a display port connected to be able to use 3 monitors. I tried an active adapter from DP to DVI, but also with a disappointing result. I am really fed up with this approach and plan to move to the new Asus GTX 680 directCU ii Top. This card has 2 DVI, 1 HDMI and 1 DP connectors of which you can use 3 connectors to create a 3d vision and the fourth connector for something completely different. As you can imagine I have become a 'little affraid' of those display ports. I have been searching for some documentation on the connection poss…

Hi, I'm planning a major upgrade of my PC in preparation to FSX switch and GPU is one of the components that will be replaced. I'm currently have i7-950 and GT460 and I'm still using heavy-customized FS2004. The new machine will be build for FSX only. The only concern I have right now is GTX580 that has videoRAM ~ 1.5GB. As we all know FSX SP2 is still 32bit application and it cannot access more than 4GB of virtual memory. As far as learned from many topics here on AVSIM, videoRAM is always a part of this equation for VM calculation. Simply speaking, more video RAM = more risks of OOM in the areas of complex scenery, lots of AI and multy-layer clouds. Perhaps …

Good morning folks, Im going to be starting a new build soon, consisting of a z77 mobo, i5 2500k(o/clocked to 4.5) 8 g of samsung 1600 ram, nh-d14 cooler, now im just debating what card to get myself, - and without wanting to start an nvidia/ati war, what is the card to use for the moment? - i might stretch myself to a 580 gtx, what do you guys think? i read somewhere that nvidia is more suited to fsx than what ati is - something to do with ati has faster shader processors, but nvidia had better ??? i cant remember what it was. Also, im going from xp32 to windows 7 64, is there any issues i should know about prior to getting my o/s? regards paul can a mod pleas…

Just tried the new 301.10 driver on my gtx 570 and it is performing quite nice but i need to do some more tests. Also with this new driver you can activate FXAA in nvidia inspector but it adds only a massive amount of blur. anybody else did tried this new driver and settings?

Would there be any difference in FSX? What would be the best choice here if I don't play any other games, but FSX only. The best 560 or the cheapest 580s one? I'm not sure if FSX supports all those DirectX 11 shaders, etc.. Thanks!

I am considering trying out a larger LCD display in-lieu of my current Matrox 3H2G0 set up (3x22") monitors. I want to make sure I am not missing a wow factor. I have a couple of questions 1) Has anyone else made that transition in either direction - large screen to 3H2Go or 3H2Go to a single large screen? What were your impressions? Better, worse, different - ultimately what was your preference? 2) What is your recommendation on a good LCD LED that has quick response time. I don't want lag. The matrox has been great and is great but my performance does take a high running at 5040 x 1050 resolution. To help mitigate the impact, I am considering the si…

Hi, I know this is an age old question but here is my sitch. I am running heavy paywar like NGX with Orbx scenery, REX and 1024 clouds and during flights especially on approach and departure my video card fan sounds like a jet. Also with the Orbx stuff I am getting micro hitches and delayed scenery tile LOD increase at the same time. If I make a recording of GPU-z during these times this is occuring my GPU % is in the 90% area. I know FSX is mostly CPU but it seems in my case upgrading to a 560ti or something or even a 570 or 580 may make a huge difference. The reason I am reluctant to oc my processor more is that I am allready at 1.375 vcore and temps in prime 95…

Got a BB Playbook and wanting to know if it can be used as GPS / Touchscreen. Did google this but no joy. It can be used as a monitor via a HDMI cable but no info on the touch screen being used. Somehow this topic got double posted. Can the second be deleted? Thanks.

So time has come for me to upgrade my video card on my system (i5-750 2.66GHz, 4GB DDR3, 1TB SATA II, DVDRW, NVIDIA GeForce GTS250 1GB, 700W PSU, Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit) And i was looking to just do something in the $150-$200 Dollar range. This led me to looking at the GTX 560 ti or a 550 but I'm pretty set on going with the 560. What are your guys thoughts on the card below? i have another $20 promo i can use and get it for $169, its a 2gig 560 Superclocked...how do you think this will run FSX? Does anyone have experience with this card? http://www.tigerdire...5358&CatId=3669

Any one have any proper experince of DXTORY? Anyoen know any good alternatives to Fraps? I've downloaded DXTORY and set it up but it seems very complex and I can't seem to get consistent results out of it. Something tells me that it would kick into line if I bought it, but don't want to if it really isn't any good. I find when runnig FSX it is so smooth, but when Fraps'd it loses frames. I've tried to lock everything at 30fps but it still doesn't look as good as it could (imo) Thanks peeps jake

My knowledge-base of FS hardware remains 5 plus years back. I sort of lost interest when I realized it would be years into the future before FSX would be really ready to perform because of hardware limitations. Now that hardware has (or is) catching up, do the GPUs that Intel are installing on their CPUs help FSX in anyway? Is this something we should be looking at? Could some of you smart, hardware-savvy flight simmers explain to me why they are putting GPUs on a CPU (That's what I thought videocards were for) and if now (or in the future) this will help FSX in terms of performance. I'd really appreciate an explanation from an experienced FSX user. Thanks in advance!RH

As title states, thinking of going from 3 X 17" dell's to 2 X 21.5" Dells. If my math is right, I am losing about 4" right? I can deal with that....the bigger question is, do the NVidia drivers now support "full screen" using a dual-head 460 GTX card? That is, I remember previously that both screens had to act independently. Are you now able to drag a windowed FSX across BOTH and use "full screen" across both? If the answer is yes, look for hardware in the sale bin soon. :)

Hi everyone, I am contemplating to install a second video card. I am running a Radeon X1950 at the moment with 2 monitors and have an X1900 on the shelf. I am using one with Track IR in VC mode and the second one in 2D mode with the instrument panel. I want to add one or two additional monitors with touchscreen for FMC / pedestal and possible overhead panel. I am wondering whether I will have to expect an overall decrease in performance (frame rates) as the additional card might draw CPU power, but I am only guessing here and would be glad about your advice. Best regards, Holger Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3 (build 2600) 2.40 gigahertz Intel Cor…

This might be old news for most, but the problem just hit me. From everything i've read AMD is at a loss for a fix and most of the work-arounds don't help. Just a heads up folks.

Hi All:Recently I decided to 'downgrade' my video card and am surprised at the improvements I have seen.First a little background as to why I would even want to do this. I am a longtime flightsimmer, since the genre was born, so to speak. I currently am a 'tri-simmer', that is, I fly one of three flight sims, depending on what my main interest is on any particular day. For the best visual experience, I fly FSX and Orbx scenery. For general flightsimming, I still prefer FS2004. And for those days when I want a real challenge and fly an IFR approach down to minimums, with nothing visible outside the cockpit window, I fly FS2002! Microsoft seriously 'broke' IFR flying …

Fellow simmers, I am looking to upgrade from an old 9800GT to a new graphics card that's under $200. These are the two cards I am looking at: http://www.tigerdire...asp?EdpNo=41125 (GTX 550) and http://www.tigerdire...5335&CatId=3669 (GTX 560) As far as the question, I see that the 550 has a higher clock speed for core, memory, and shader. But it's stream processors and memory interface/bandwidth are less than the 560. My understanding is that FSX mainly takes advantage of the core/memory clock speeds, is that correct? If so, is the 550 a better choice? Which one would give me FSX better performance? I am not really worried about the price, but wou…
