Help Using the AVSIM Forums

As you have probably noticed, we have expanded the Reputation System to include the negative rating button again. If you are unfamiliar with this, at the bottom right of every post, you will find this: The GREEN UP button when clicked, will give a positive 1 point to the rating of the user's post. The RED DOWN button when clicked, will give a negative 1 point to the rating of the user's post. The action of the two are cumulative; that is, 4 positive up votes combined with 2 negative down votes will result in a net of 2 positive votes. All votes are tabulated in the User's profile. Hi, when I go to avsim.com, it takes me to forum.avsim.net A few days ago I was able to go right to the front page and read what was released and what files were uploaded, etc, etc. Now I'm not sure how to access the front page, I clicked AVSIM at the top of this page, but again it takes me to the forums. Is this something on my end, or did you guys change it up? Finally, where can I view the front page or at least read the latest news and stuff like that? Thanks

Tom, it's not a dns issue on the client that is causing the timeout, nor is it locaction specific. 1. Pingdom tools allow you to trace from locations, choose US or Netherlands its the same 503. 2. The 503 error is served by your server, so the request is getting to you just fine. 3. I get a 503 even on the ip address of your server, so not dns. However, if you are using a dns lookup in your script, or a third party resource to validate requests as valid users or spam/bots etc then that could maybe cause the issue. I've been noticed that for the past few days now, maybe since Saturday, every night around 2 or 3am CDT, the Avsim forums seem to be unavailable or non-responsive and get the 503 error. Then after a while they come back up. At first I thought it was my computer but I have tried to access from other computers and even my phone during those times and the same thing happens. Is there maintenance or something going on during those hours or is some idiot launching DDOS attacks at around the same time every night?

Are PM's not possible any more or is it just me that can't use them?

I must be blind but I cannot find any way to search/lookup/list AVSIM members. Can someone lead me in the right direction? Thx

Dear all, I haven't been using AVSIM much lately, but since the forum I'm usually on is pretty empty I decided to particapte more here. The only problem with AVSIM for me is that all pages and search queries seem to take forever. I run a 150/20(Kbps) network here and I have no troubles whatsoever with browsing normally. I disabled my ad-blocker completly but still the responserate is low. Am I the onlyone or is this a common problem? With regards, Ircghost p.s. Don't get me wrong I love the huge amount of topics on AVSIM, just wondering what might cause this problem.

Yesterday or the day before Raymar, I believe, started a topic about the Megascenery Hawaii $5 scenery offer. The topic was at least 2 pages long when I read it yesterday morning. It has since disappeared from the main FSX forum. I was just wondering why this entire topic was deleted from the forum? Thanks, Robert

Is there anyone else using iprimus in Australia that is unable to access the Avsim Forums?

I have noticed that when I click on the little envelope on the top right that the private messenger almost never opens up. I just get a spinning wheel. If, however, I click my username and then personal messenger it always opens up right away. Can this be fixed?

Greetings, At some point recently (*been on vacation a few times in August, so not sure when this started), I've noticed that certain words in posts are now being linked with informational items or popups. For example, in my own recent post, the string "777" gets automatically linked seven times to what looks like a wiki article... among other words and phrases. At first I thought this might be malicious software on my computer, but other websites using the same forum software (and having the same words) are not triggering this, and I get the popup behavior on my work PC as well. Hi all, Just recently I have noticed that when I type comment, or start a new subject in a forum, I click the "Post" button and then get a blank screen with in the top left corner an error message. The last time this happened was this morning, I'm in the UK at about 07.50am. When I checked my post wasn't in my "My Content" so logged out and back in and it was. Now once when you posted a comment the post was seen immediately in the forum page. This is quite frustrating as once or twice I have seen in the PMDG forum comments about "Please don't post comments more than once" when in fact I think what is happening people are posting, then getting this error message, t…

A few months ago AvSim intorduced a new link, in the menu line at the top of the page, to live-streaming videos. I found this a useful addition to AvSim's 'entertainment portfolio' even if my wife didn't quite agree .... I've been a member of the forums, even longer than my membership states, I lost login and email address at one point so re-joined. Ive never really had any issues with the forums. But recent months it seems to have various issues since some of the changes etc have occurred, I access the forums, from different computers regularly, and have always had the stay logged in option enabled and this has always been fine. Now I find just closing the browser will result in no access again, I cant see any of the forums unless I log in again(this was possible before without logging in) the forum and download area require separate login. its becoming a bit annoying everytime I…

I am having a problem with the main menu on my home PC. When I move the mouse over the menu headers on my work PC, a drop down menu appears. However, it does not do this on my home PC. Can someone tell me why this might be the case? If so, what is the solution? I use Windows Vista 64 at work, and Windows 7 64 at home.

Hello all I've recently bought a new Android tablet onto which I have installed Tapatalk. Unfortunately, now I can't stop the Avsim forum postings being forwarded to my email account. I have Tapatalk configured to "Notification off", but this seems to make no difference. What's strange is that I've had Tapatalk installed on my Android phone for over a year and this has never happened before. I've looked at my Avsim settings and, as far as I can tell, all relevant notifications are set to off. Any help would me much appreciated as this is now getting rather annoying !!! Thanks Gary

Perhaps my amateur status is showing here, but is there any way to perform a Search that is filtered just for Forum Topics? I was looking for topics on problems installing addon scenery, but the search engine returns so many results (837) for addon scenery and only 4 results per page made the results impractical to use. I'm sure that topic is well covered in the forums and didn't want to start a new thread without doing do diligence. Cheers Dave in FSX specifically
