Help Using the AVSIM Forums

I logged in with Facebook a long time ago when the Create an Account wasn't working. I've stayed with the Facebook way. Now that you're taking away Facebook login, I'm about to lose all my history, right? Is there some way to change my account over to a non-facebook login before my credentials expire? Thanks, Gregg

Hi, I just joined the forums here and I created a Post in the PMDG Forum. Just yesterday when I got a reply I went to it and i got the error "User does not have Permission to go to this post" This has been happening ever since. I created the post, so shouldnt I be able to access it? I have gotten a ton of replies from it and I want to answer them. ~Remy

Hi I am trying to load one of the FS2Crew Banners in my signature, but if I copy and paste the link into the 'Image' icon on the Signature edit window - nothing happens. These banners must be approved as many people use them. What am I doing wrong ? Glen

For the last few days when trying to read the forum via Tapatalk I can only read the first 20 topics listed in the "latest" section of the app, if I pull to load more topics it displays "loading unread topics" and then stops in about half the time it normally takes (when it's working correctly) and no more topics have actually been loaded at all. Only the Latest section (i.e. view new topics) is effected as far as I can tell, navigating the individual forum sections does load more pages when you pull to load more topics at the bottom of a page. For reference all other none AVSIM forums I visit that use ipboard and Tapatalk are working correctly.

Being I just got back on here after a long absents is there a way to get credits for my old postings when I was active? Or does it all start a new? Its been awhile.

But, Vandervelde is the last name of my mother's side but it's not my actual last name that is present on my identification and it's not the name as the people know me. Usually, of course, you always get your father's name as a last name. The forum button has been changed so that instead of going right to the full forum list, there is a bunch of sub-menus. I don't like it, because every day I go to a variety of forums like Hangar chat, FSX, P3D, and it is faster for me to choose my forum from the full list. I liked it better when it was the old way. At least there should be an item in the list that says "full list", although it wold require one more click than before. PUT IT BACK TH3E WAY IT WAS! Henri

I couldn't help but notice, that in the past few days some really old threads were kind of revitalized. I also noticed, that older threads do no longer carry the message that "The thread is older than 180 days, and particiation would be of little use", or something like that. Has this feature been disabled in order to speed up the forums? I actually found this feature quite reasonable, since now you have to read through a whole new topic in order to get to the new posts(I know, it's not always neessary, but sometime you don't get the whole discussion, then), and those posts often don't really have much to do with the OP, or they really are of no use, as the question w…

I've looked over the options and maybe I'm missing something, but is there anyway to hide some of the forum topics/groups on the main forum page? The list has gotten quite long and I don't visit the vast majority of the listed forums so I'm looking for a way to collapse the list. Thanks

When I'm surfing the Avsim forums, I typically have a page of topics and I'll click on several of those that interest me and let them load in the background, then go and read the threads. This comes from having a somewhat slower Internet connection. While my download speeds are good, the satellite connection takes a long time to do the necessary handshaking. On this visit, I've started getting messages about suspected DDOS attacks from my IP instead of the threads. I'm guessing that eventually my IP address will be banned if this keeps up. I don't know if the filters have been made more sensitive today, or if more connections per page are needed, or if my IP ad…

I have been using my iPad for several months to view the Forum pages and everything works well with it. Today for the first time in a long time I logged on with my PC and found that there are no subject titles for any of the posts. The column all the way on the left side of the page where the title should be now shows just the start date of the post. I can not tell what any of the posts are about without opening them. I can't seem to find a way to fix this. I am using Windows 7 and Internet Explorer. Any suggestions?

We recently had a situation where a person attempted to spoof an admin (me) and then send some pretty nasty PM's to various members of the community. Prior to this, we put into place a verification system that can indicate to you whether you are receiving a verified admin's PM. If you receive a PM from any admin that are real admins, the message will have at the top this statement: If this message does not appear above the PM of a staff member, you can be reasonably certain that the person sending you a PM is not an admin or staff member. If that happens, please report the post / person immediately. Thank you.

I like the two new features that have recently been unveiled (for those who did not see the announcement, they are the Friends Online user interface menu bar section and the Troll/Spam button under each post). If possible, could the Friends Online indication be a color different from that of the New Message indication? Red seems like an urgent color that strongly attracts attention, thus being more suitable as a color for New Message indications. Because friends may constantly appear online (even if they leave their browsers open) and their online status is therefore less immediately important, I think a green, green-yellow, or yellow indication would be easier on…

Hello there, I wrote to forum technic before about "why I can't see forum title, just I can see topic starter instead topic header or title", I never get any reply message to my email! So, I wanted to ask you once again becouse I can't "read" any message title for searching and solving the problem. I'm IE8 user on XP-SP3. For some time now I've noticed that the toobar at the top of the Post/Reply windows is greyed out and non-operational. This hasn't been a problem for me, but now I want to post and add an image. Is this a general problem, or is it just me ?

Hi, Since the upgrade the forum is being soooo much slower....Is this normal? Am I the only one to notice this?

For your information, we disabled the add-on which allows users to create a username and link an existing username with the above services. Since day one they have caused more grief than good on the back end of things.

Earlier today, I tried to access the new "links database" which was linked in the Reminders box on the top of the page. I can get to the links database homepage, but when I click on "Microsoft Flight Simulator Hobbyist Sites" I get this message; I have tried refreshing and tried it again some hours later, but the message still appears. Hopefully, it can be fixed soon.

Hi, for some reasons the forum loads very slowly since last week. As far as my Browser shows it loads 2MB of data before the forum is fully loaded, is there a fix for this? I'm using the latest version of Opera by the way, greets, Johnny

I recently had an innocuous post in this forum about User Account Control. I can no longer see it, and the last user's post I can see is dated 29 November 2012. Has there been a problem?

Something have happened to the forum and the 'go to latest unread post' button have disappeared from the thread lists. This is quite unfortunate, as it is by far the best way to read a thread IMO. A simple click on the little star/bullet marker would have taken me to the latest unread in a thread, now I have to browser through the entire thread to find the last post I've read. It's kinda time consuming This is how it used to be : This is how it's now Any plans on bringing back this most useful feature of forum softwares back to AVSim?
