Help Using the AVSIM Forums

As I am quite often away from my FS PC I often view the forums from my iPad. However the last week is starting to get infuriating for me. I am constantly getting asked to get the forum app to view the forums. 1. I am quite happy viewing the forums in Safari. 2. I don't want to pay €1.99 or whatever it is to view the forum when I can view it free in Safari. Is this an Avsim thing, or the PHP (?) asking me to buy this app? I view other forums and other sites in Safari and am asked probably once a month. Viewing the Avsim forum it is every time I open a page or topic.

As the thread title states, is there anyway to remove the user awards box that shows up below posts? If not, can this be added as an option? For all the complaints about long signatures, those we could at least ignore if wanted, it'd be nice if we could do the same here.

Hello How would I edit my profile so that my user name was in gray text and my profile shows Inactive_ member I.e User, Gear Up and Off Other than getting banned of course, before you suggest that option.

Starting today (That I noticed it) it appears that the selective quote function on reply to a thread is no longer working. When you highlight the selected text, when you press the selective quote button, nothing happens. I've tried it on both Firefox and IE! Thanks

I was just setting up my profile and when I tried to do the "log in with google" thing to link my account I got: Error: invalid_request Missing required parameter: client_id I'm not particularly concerned about this, I just figured someone may want to know. No idea if it's a problem on my end or something about the forum link but it looks more like the latter to me. When I clicked on a "help" link after the failure, the "explanation" looked like it was complaining about authentication version.... maybe...not claiming ultimate expertise or anything. Okay, recently I've noticed that the "Load more topics" button at the bottom doesn't work. I have to manually change the page by click on the number at the bottom left. Does anyone else have this?

Do the little country flags count as 1 image?

Guys, I don't know what you have done to the forums, but it is real pain in the arse from few weeks ago. Awfully slow and clumsy loading of the thread pages. The forum list pages are ok. Done bit of research and here is what I found: simple thread with 3 replies takes 137 HTTP requests, weighs 1.2 MB and needs 7.09 seconds to load !!!!! And that's on a dual core 3Ghz/6GB ram machine in Firefox 13, 45 mbit internet link. Yes I know I am at the wrong side of the ocean (in Europe) but still. When I receive a notification email for a topic I'm following it is sent as a Plain Text message but the first line includes HTML formatting instructions. For example... <strong>Ray Proudfoot,</strong> I've looked through my options but can't find one for the style I want to receive email notifications. Is there one for Plain Text or HTML? Seems like there should be.

I was looking around my profile pages and I noticed the option to link to Steam. Before I go ahead and do it I was just wondering what benefits there are to doing this. How does it affect my Avsim account, does it mean I get to see my posts in Steam on the Avsim forum that sort of thing. I have not linked acccounts between forums before so it would be nice to know first. Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi. Im a bit confused, because the user review section states that it is closed for new submissions due to another section has been opened instead (member review). It says something about a link to this new section is available on the top of the page. I cant really find it. Is the only review section now the feature that is on the front page?

I am no longer receiving any email notifications for topics that I have made posts to. In "My Settings" I have a check next to "Auto follow topics I reply to" and I have the frequency set to "Immediate". Under "Topics & Posts" I have all of the "Email" boxes checked but I'm not receiving anything. The email address in my account is correct and working. I do not have Avsim blocked in my email program and yes I checked the spam folder. Any suggestions? Thanks. Todd

I noticed a few of my posts (in the PMDG forum and ALL my tutorials in the Flight tutorial section) have lost all of the hard returns, making reading them quite difficult. Anyone knows what happened there? Something went wrong in the database? Is it possible to restore them somehow...? Specially the tutorials look a bit crappy now. It's odd because not ALL posts are affected (the original tutorials in the Big Vor topic are still okay!). Just curious. EDIT I managed to restore all the tutorials using the big Vor topic.

Is this only my graphics problem or it's AVSIM having problems with image compression? The screenshots which are supposed to be advertising AVSIM shop, and not only, look rather terrible on my monitor. Jaggies, no anti aliasing. Have a look:

Hello How can I switch to the mobile theme in the forums, the button seems to have gone from the bottom of the page. I am now finding Avsim to slow to use comfortably with all of the graphics that are constantly being reloaded, and I find the sidebar in the forums very distracting. Is there any way left to just display the forum text ?

Is there a way to open Avsim on the current day library page. Like "http://forum.avsim.net/page/index.html/_/librarynews" but with the current day as the last part of the sentence. Sorry to say that I miss the old Avsim opening.
