Help Using the AVSIM Forums

Used to be that all one had to do was simply look at the forum headers and get a sense of what a given topic is about. Now, all I see is, "Topic Started by...." and have to hold my mouse over the header to get some idea what is being discussed. What changed and how can I get the old format back? Thanks,

Hi all, On all other AVSIM forums, hovering your mouse over the thread title brings up a popup window with the first post, first unread post, and last post in it. This works fine and is very handy. But in the FS2004 forum, when I do that on the first page of the forum, an empty box appears and then quickly disappears, leaving just the top edge graphic visible: This is not true on the second and later pages of the forum, only on the first page. I am using FireFox version 16.02, but it has been this way for several versions now. Is there any way this can be fixed? Thanks,

Ive just got back off hols and logged into the forum and Ive now havent got any titles of the threads? Only who started it. If I hover the mouse over the name it gives me the title of the thread? Any ideas whats happend? very annoying Using IE8 thanks Steve

I have a question..regarding image posting on threads (Not necessarily the screen shot forum). Is there a downside to AVISIM if someone posts a link to uploaded images like Flikr etc. I wouldn't think it occupies space here. I am not such a techi with web knowledge so I could be wrong. Also, no matter the image, the AVISM automatically reduces the size which is really convenient and so it would not hinder access to folks with slow download speed. This Q is more for my understanding. Since I never realized my posting image links (not uploading images) would be detrimental to AVSIM in any way. Sometimes contextually it helps posting image links. Manny

Lately, perhaps since today only, my AVSim forum tabs have started to refresh themselves automatically. What is the cause of this? This automatic refresh feature is not really a good thing. It causes lag spikes for me when I play games and have my browser running at the same time. How do I disable this automatic refresh feature?

Hello I just signed up, but I wasn't allowed to use my own email address with the domain name I own. I ended up signing with my mailbox address (like gmail, yahoo etc) which I really don't want. I tried to then change the email adress in my settings but it says the email address is in use, which is nonsense. why can't I use my own domain name's email address?

Why am I unable to edit any of my earlier post? Like a post I made yesterday. There is no "Edit" tag to click. Edit: But I can Edit this one. Ha!

Hi there.. First of all, am sorry if I am posting in the wrong topic/forum or if something similar has already been discussed. I have read a lot of topic on various forums about all the different ways of installing FSX and the add on.. I am having a problem with my setup with a lot of frame drops when using specific add ons etc etc. So I am planning to re install SFX and the add ons that I would like to keep, but need guidance on setup (ex, on the default directory or create a new one) etc etc. I am happy to re install my windows if that helps. What's the new member ID field under the avatars? I see no reason why we would want to know the ID's of the members?

Just noticed these three topics in a row (not Photoshopped) on the MS FSX Forum index: Now I don't know what is the best start of a topic title but I do know what's the most used one... ^_^

Every time I click on a forum topic..instead of the subtopics displaying it says "Started by xxxxx on xx/xx/xx" without showing the subtopic. How do I get it to display the subtopic??

The 'Forum' menu button right below the AVSIM logo doesn't work for me. I've checked on two computers in two different locations.

Hello, may be its my setting but all the topics now have ''Started by'' rather than the topic title displayed in the forums.. I have to highlight all the ''Started by's'' to see the post that are of interest me. This takes up more time which I don't have, is there a setting I can use to see the topic title rather than who started it?

Using Firefox 12.0, on the top of the avsim web page I get a warning that "Javascript Disabled Detected ..... re-enable javascript to access full functionality." In Firefox under tools tab, option, content the box for enable javascript is checked. Under the advanced tab for javascript checking or unchecking the box for "disable or replace context menus" does not make a difference. How do I get javascript enabled to satisfy avsim? Nevermind, I solved it. I had the NoScript addon installed, once removed the warning was gone.

Probably not the correct term but I noticed now as I scan down forum posts a pop-up bubble/window appears with a sample of the thread. Can I stop this from happening? If so how do I turn this feature off? thx, Clutch

Hi all, New to the hobby and the forum. I've been trying to upload an image for my profile - without success. I'm trying to follow the rules, and am trying a photo of 200x200 pixels, JPG format, but after uploading, I just get that little 'image error' icon displaying, instead of the image I tried to upload. Can anyone point towards what I might be getting wrong here? Thanks Geordie
