Help Using the AVSIM Forums

Is it just me, or has the button for editing my own posts been removed for a certain reason? (I'm using Firefox 17.0) Thanks for your help Flo P.S.: I just recognised, that I'm able to edit this particular post, but it seems I can't edit any other post I've made.

Hello, I was a little lazy today and when registering chose the facebook option (really like this option), nice easy one click registration. However I also have tapatalk on a mobile device and just wondering how I would go about logging onto the forum using this. Would it just be with my facebook password? thanks, Lewis

Hey guys this problem has come and gone with I guess certain forum updates. I am using Windows 7 64 and plane old Google Chrome, me being signed in or out of the forums doesn't matter, I cannot click any user attached videos, links, images, or anything. The mouse cursor does change when I hover over the item, but when I click, it is as if I never clicked the mouse button. This is kind of annoying because there are several interesting links I would like to check out as well as videos and I cannot click them. Thanks for the help guys. Not sure if this is the appropritate place to say this, but to day I discovered a way how to cheat when taking quizzes, and I just wanted to report that, so that this may be made impossible. What I did was the following: I took a quiz, then I wanted to navigate back to some other forum by clicking the "prevoious page" symbol. This took me back to the quiz, where I - just out of couriosity - tried to take the quiz again, and guess what: It worked again, so I now have two entries in this particular leader board. I thought that the system wouldn't allow submitting a quiz a second time, hence I was very surprised that it worked, and I thought I'd report that, so that maybe y…

I turned off javascript in Firefox today due to the warnings concerning security issues. I am now getting a message in the forums that some features may not work. One seems to be the ability to collapse unwanted forum areas...the only one I want to see is the one containing the FSX forum. "Javascript Disabled Detected You currently have javascript disabled. Several functions may not work. Please re-enable javascript to access full functionality." I would suggest that in your seemingly endless, and oft misguided, quest to upgrade the forum software that you move to a version that does not use or require javascript!

This morning, I was glad to find that yesterday night's maintenance updates had been completed. However, I quickly became disappointed, displeased, and frustrated, having lost 57 posts, 8 +1s, and 1 quiz that took me over an hour to create, revise, and publish. I was wondering whether AVSIM has any back-ups of all the content posted in the past few days that has been lost (i.e., are the updates really complete?). I apologize for my impatience, but would like to think that we did not waste multiple hours of our lives in the past few days posting content that no longer exists.

Hey there. I think this only happens on the larger topics. Take the current Airbus Extended thread for example. As you see, the last post is from a silly guy posting even more silly stuff. But, when clicking, you land somewhere else in the thread and a bunch of the last posts doesn't get displayed. In fact, I'm landing at the top of page 21. But the forum overview shows the last post correctly. Mind the dates. After a while, this behaviour seems to clear up and the last post becomes reachable. Two issues: 1. Lately I can't log in normally. I fill in my e mail account, but below, in the password box, the cursor won't go. So I logged in via Facebook. Dear Gents, Today, I have noticed that my status indicator has been changed to "Commercial Member" and I have received a polite PM from Chuck Jodry advising that I exercise caution in commenting on other people's products, being a "commercial member". I am very, very confused! I am not and have never been a commercial member, and I have no involvement in the development of any products for flight simulation. I am an ambulance paramedic, not a flight sim developer. :smile: I can only assume this has been a case of mistaken identity. I was just curious as to why there is both an anti-spam question and security check when registering? Surely that's a bit over the top? Wouldnt just the secuity check do?

So I just took a nice flight today and got some awesome pictures that I would like to upload to the forums. I only see the option to upload via URL, and I don't really want to find a website and upload all of my pictures in order to get them on here. Does that function exist?

For a while the topic headers do not show in the forum. (see image) I can only see who has started a topic. This is annoying! Can anyone tell what the problem is? Thanks, Martin

I think I discovered a problem in the way the forum posts when at the end of a page. I've noticed this in the last couple of weeks, and has happened at least 5 times. It seems when a post scrolls to the next page, it doesn't display until another post comes under it. For example currently in the Airbus Extended thread, my post at 5:30 appears at the bottom of page 19, According to the new posts screen at the top of the forum home page "Raul_Hernandez" responded at 5:40, but when I go into the thread the last post I see is mine, If pattern holds after the next post his post will be seen on page 20 along with the following posts. Hi; Using IE 9 here. When I attempt to post or edit an existing post for the first time in a session, I always get a hang. I see the small green "progress" bar with the animation, but it hangs there. Then when I back up and reattempt the post, it works the second time (but if I don't copy my post to the clipboard first I lose it). When I click the "edit" button as the first posting activity in a session I will get the hang immediately...if I click on it a second time, it works. I have a friend here in town seeing the same behavior.

Hello, Sometimes, while browsing these fora, I need to save some snippets of useful answers (it may be a code fragment, picture, text, link, anything) for the future quick reference (IPB search is a PITA). The easiest way to keep such a collection for me (and I guess for the other community members) would be using this very forum software (IPB). For instance I would like be able to collect at least Bookmarks to the interesting posts. hey everyone, I've recently decided to start a little project that involves many monitors. My latest issue is that I have the fish eye effect due to FOV. I purchased Immersive display lite 2 but with many hours of playing with the program its very difficult to figure out how to use it. This is my AVSIM browsing procedure. My bookmark is 'View new content', I'm presented with a list of new posts. So far, so good. I run my eye down the list until something interests me and I click on it, read it the go back to the list. This is where it has changed. Before, the thread I had just read remained in the list but greyed out. This was very handy as it allowed me to see where I'd got up to. Now the thread disappears from said list and I lose my place, dagnabbit! I have to start at the top. Is this an options thing or is it an 'improvement'?

Couldn't find anything related to the above topic so let me ask, where can one find "do's and dont's" if you are a considered a commercial member? Only thing I remember is you need to have your status changed to 'Commercial Member', but what about avatars, tags, signatures, posting, etc., etc. Is there somewhere I can read up on that? thx, Clutch

I'm using IE9 (fully up-to-date) & I can't access the menu dropdowns and I don't get the popup previews of the posts, nor can I use the text editor (no icon bar). I must have turned off a browser feature or something. I have the latest Java and it is enabled in IE9. Do you have any advice that might resolve the issue? thanks, Ottor
