Anyone having trouble getting onto FSE. Seems the site is down, along with their Forums. Strange, as they are hosted on different servers.

I'm new to this so I have what is likely a basic question. I've planned a flight from Vacouver CYVR to Portland KPDX using PFPX the route given is: ATC Route N0357A170 DCT VR B22 XX V495 HUH05/N0357A170 V495 HUH DCT SEA HELNS5 I'm flying the 737 NGX. I'd like to better understand what the above means. I'm aware that HELNS5 is a STAR and the V495 and B22 are likely airways. I've no idea what N0357A170 refers to, looks like heading and altitude?? How about HUH05/N0357A170? I'm departing rwy 13 and I've looked at CYVR's SIDs and I can't find N0357A170 so this has me stumped? Any suggestions on where I can read up on this stuff or quick explanations. …

Off the coast of Madagascar, large aircraft parts have been recovered and I am not aware of any other flights of large airliners that have gone down in the area recently. Corrosion and build up is minimal. Still a bit early, but clearly looks like a 777 flap assembly to me. Lets just hope this can bring some families closure. http://news.yahoo.com/mysterious-plane-wreckage-sparks-mh370-speculation-164923155.html http://www.cnn.com/2015/07/29/africa/mh370-debris-investigation/index.html

i have been looking around and seeing sites out there like flightdeck solutions and thier jet max 737 kit. That would be so darn cool. Just so expensive. And people with Thier wrap around screens. That would be so awesome. Has anyone here done anything like that for under 10,000 dollars? It would be fun just to have a working cdu. Just so much money.

While aimlessly browsing the interwebs, I found what could have been the next great thing in flight simulation. Even in its earliest pre-alpha form, it was remarkably advanced in many of its features and capabilities. It is/was called "Project Rembrandt" and was made by some of the folks on the FlightGear team. It was a complete rebuild of their platform and featured most of the modern DX11 elements in their full form. Specular and fresnel lighting, depth of field, advanced shadowing, deferred rendering, etc. It even had advanced pilot hands that interacted with the instruments! All at amazing frame rates which could have been a true programming accomplishment. Sadly…

This past Friday, my wife insisted that I open my birthday gift early, despite the fact that I guessed what it was beforehand. I opened it and I was correct: A Tecsun PL-660 Portable AM/FM/LW/Air Shortwave World Band Radio with Single Side Band. I knew the weekend would be awesome. I forgot to pack it when we went to DC on Saturday, but we still took a little time to watch the aircraft takeoff and land at KDCA. Parking at Gravely Point has it's advantages to someone who loves flying. Sunday, we went back to Gravely Point to embark on a walking journey back to DC. After a few hours of walking (6 miles), we stopped at the park and sat for a little while to cool dow…

So, two days ago I decided to give P3D another try. I had tried 2.2 and then 2.3 and was not happy with either. Now we're up to 2.5. I've always felt that haze effects in FSX were way overdone. Here are two images. Both are running the same sky texture, same weather and similar clouds. They're both taken over KSTS Sonoma County, near the same location at about the same time of day, looking backward at Mt. Helena. The first is from FSX. This one is from P3D. There's a lot to see when you compare them. Here's as mini-album where you can switch back and forth. http://imgur.com/a/5K8ZV#1 This is just food for thought. P3D looks similar in …

Just curious . . . Any real life commercial pilots out there who are rated in both Boeing and Airbus (for example, interchangeaby flying B737 NGX or A320 routinely)? Are there regulations or specific conditions by the airline industry or FAA (or other government bureaus of other countries) regarding this? era

Historically, I have had a very basic approach to the use of ICAO alphanumeric airport codes in flight sim – only using them to identify where I was going from and to. I had a general understanding of how they were assigned and what the four letters in the code for an airport signified eg the first letter for the region, the second for the country in the region and the other two to identify the airport. I understood that there were some exceptions from the first two letters approach, exampled by Canada and the US. A couple of weeks ago when I was overflying a small country, I noticed that the ICAO code for the international airport there was exactly the same as th…

Hi all, WarriorPilot posted a RW video of some of his flights and this image from the video caught my eye. I thought, "I've never seen anything like that in my sim." So, I'm wondering, how close can we get to it. Viewpoint doesn't matter. Lighting, color, the view of the distance. We have tons of airports and textures. We have ENB, Shade and Reshade. How close can we come? Gregg
