Something I've used for a while and which might be helpful to others. Scenario: You have a drive, for example your C: (Or whatever) drive, thats running out of space because your scenery (or whatever) folder is bulging at the seams. You have another drive with plenty of space, but FSX/P3D/Whatever is looking for those files to be in a specific folder on your C: (or whatever) drive, and if you moved the folder to the bigger drive, FSX/P3D/Xplane wouldn't know where to find it! Possible solution: a Virtual folder, which is where the actual folder is someplace else, (like your bigger drive) But FSX/P3D/X-Plane are still happy, because to it/them the folder appear…

Very good collection of "crazy charts", presented (and commented) by a real pilot. Have fun! http://airfactsjournal.com/2014/02/approach-plate-olympics-more-crazy-charts/ Cheers, Sergio

I stumbled on this on Netflix yesterday; I saw someone posted about this movie a couple of years ago. It's actors recreating several famous plane crashes based upon the cockpit voice recordings. It is macabre, but as a makebelieve flightsim airline pilot, I found the dialogue very interesting, seeing how the flight crew interacted, sometimes tragically missing vital clues, other times acting with amazing calm and competence. The "cockpits" used are crude, but the point of the movie was the people. It also made me realize that thanks to products such as the PMDG NGX and FS2Crew, I actually had a fairly good understanding of what the flight crew were doing and saying. It'…

This sounds like quite an immersion enhancement, but it all looks a bit cluncky. Does anyone use it and if so, are you able to provide your experience as to whether it is worth the investment? Cheers

I really hate I helped Kickstart this as I'm not hearing much good coming out of it and now the rumours are they have burned thru large chunks of cash and have started selling these outrageously priced ships. https://robertsspaceindustries.com/pledge/Standalone-Ships/Endeavor-Master-Set-LTI

https://vimeo.com/117815404 In our terrestrial view of things, the speed of light seems incredibly fast. But as soon as you view it against the vast distances of the universe, it's unfortunately very slow. This animation illustrates, in realtime, the journey of a photon of light emitted from the surface of the sun and traveling across a portion of the solar system, from a human perspective. My jaw dropped when counter resetted after Jupiter, whoa!

I have to rant, and as a member of AVSIM, I feel I need to address people's overall attitudes here. I have noticed lately that there are way too many people here who feel the need to shame, berate or publicly correct other users without getting all the facts, or even just being courteous and sending a PM if there is a problem that could easily be discussed outside of any given thread. Now, I realize and have apologized for, certain comments I may have made in the past to people and recognize that such behavior wasn't getting anyone anywhere. As of late, I have done a lot better in treating people with more respect and have offered what help I could to others that re…

  14. The Avro Vulcan was designed and built in the late 1950s as one of three V bombers forming part of the UK's nuclear deterrent. There is only one left airworthy and because of the difficulty of maintaining her this weekend is the last time she takes to the skies. Today I was at the former Woodford Aerodrome in Cheshire, England where the Vulcan was built as she performed two circuits as part of the Northern England tour. Tomorrow she visits several airfields in southern England. Another part of our aviation heritage lost.

Cosford 2014 was my first ever flightsim show, and I loved every minute of it. That being the case, a return trip to Cosford 2015 was a no brainer. I arrived on Friday, and stayed overnight in a local Premier Travel Inn. My evening meal last year was a solo affair, but this year I had the pleasure of dining with three other flightsimmers (Kevin Firth, Ben Weston from Airline2Sim, and his friend Dan). This was a very enjoyable experience, and I was particularly pleased to note that Ben was already aware of my status as a UK2000 beta tester! We all had plenty to talk about, and it was nice to get the show weekend off to a flying start. I arrived at RAF Cosford early on …

Today, I was looking at the prices for FSDG's Paro recently released and now published by Aerosoft. It is not yet available from a retail store in Australia where I live. On the developer's website, the product (without the Aerosoft brand) sells for Euros 14.50. The Aerosoft branded version of the product sells for less than a Euro dearer at a European retail site, ie Euros 15.08. At a US retail site, it sells for USD $22.99. Greatly varying currency fluctuations between those two currencies and the Australian Dollar have the European one selling for the equivalent of AUD$23 and the US one at the equivalent of AUD$32, a difference o…

  17. It might just be the placebo effect of riding in a different airframe, but I could SWEAR there is a marked difference in the amount of 'felt turbulence' in the A319 compared to the B738. Is this all in my head or is some of the turbulence dampening tech found in the A380 on their smaller line of AC?

I have a question regarding payload on standard scheduled flight, let's say with 737-800. I set payload in NGX FMC and ussually hit random button to let it calculate "correct" weight. On my last flight hitting random stopped at 130 passengers and cargo weight at 2860kg/3100kg (fwd/aft), means 2860+3100=5960/130=45.8kg per passenger, which is quite much. Family of 3 will carry 135kg of luggage, screw that vacation lol. So my question is, is this weight that fmc calculate luggage + some other cargo, or only luggage? Also, what is the average weight of luggage PER PASSENGER on standard scheduled or charter flight in RW? I think it is around 20-25kg? I need that number to c…

When you fly for a charter company do you get assignments for that week or how does that work? Do you know the people's names, weights, etc or do they only tell you to pick up x many people from airport abc and fly them to xyz? Thanks.

I'm just thinking today, how it's possible that there is NO addon (FS2CREW I'm looking at you) in which you can act as a copilot? In FS2CREW you can enjoy flying as captain only afaik. This thought hit my mind when I was looking at FsPassengers rank system where first few are, of course, first officer ranks. How in the world, I, a future first officer in FsP, can sit in the left chair? Except that, being in the right chair and doing all that stuff related to procedures and fiddling with all that switches, for example, in 737 is pretty interesting, and then on approach you have an option to regain the control of the aircraft, and land it, like in the RW. I know t…

I recently purchased the A2A spitfire, and rushed into the air with it. However after a couple of hours I ran out of fuel. There must be perhaps some mechanical reasoning behind it, but why does the fuel gauge require a button push to show the fuel level. Otherwise it always shows empty? Why would a pilot not just tape the button into the depressed position? Done a search around Google but not found an answer yet. Thanks to anyone who can enlighten/ educate me. ;-) Cheers Steve

  25. Hi all... After searching the web for three days now, I have failed to come up with an image, document or images defining what is left on and off or alternate positions just before the Battery switch is turned off in a B757 Aircraft (Original Configuration) In other words, Aircraft in an almost Cold and Dark state.... What are the default settings for the overhead.... An image would be great... If any real world pilots flying a 757 could take a picture of the Overhead in its default state just post Battery power. I appreciate any help on this. I am an engineer and soon to be flight student with an innate need to go thru the complete Normal procedures of Starting the…
