I can subscribe to flightaware and get a text sent to my phone every time one of my planes that I want to follow files a flight and gets ready to depart, etc. Is there a virtual application? The only thing that comes to mind is filling on VATSIM.. other than that, any others?

Over the last two days, I have had many OOPS! Sorry, the server is too busy to handle your request, please try again in a moment messages, with my multiple clicks tried every 15 seconds or so, until I can get into what I was wanting to do, post...edit, etc. I wonder...if since the passing of Tom...has certain ones, from certain parts of the planet,....been trying to bring down, or interfere with AVSIM user-commerce, in any way they can?

Hey everyone, So Microsoft just created this browser based Flight Sim to demo their new Web Browser in Windows 10. What I find astonishing is their video reflecting on Flight Simulator as a brand - it just gave me great hope, probably an empty hope. http://flightarcade.com/learn/ Dave Denhart's public LinkedIn profile doesn't show an update since Sep 2012. Amazing to think he was with subLOGIC from the very beginning: https://www.linkedin.com/pub/dave-denhart/6/696/205

Hey all, Decided to post this here because it's applicable to any sim. How do you decide what/where to fly? I have recently started using FSeconomy which has been a fun way to get my out and exploring the FSX world. Prior I would just pick an airport (maybe one with a recently bough scenery) and do circuits, or just fly in random directions. Other times I'll just pick a random cross-country to do, or go up and practice some real-life situations that I want to be trained for. Now using FSEconomy it gives a lot more structure and purpose. I'm thinking of buying orbx Australia and starting fresh as a "pilot just traveled to down under in search of riches" Anywa…

Greetings! I guess this is as good a place as any to start this poll, since the question crosses all flight simulators. Which do you prefer: a brand-new, factory-fresh virtual cockpit or one that has wear and tear? The question came about because I just purchased the Alabeo C404 Titan and it has, IMHO, the most egregious wear and tear I have seen. While there are several examples of both pristine and worn cockpits in my hanger, ranging from many of the Carenado (new) and the MilViz B/E55 (worn) aircraft, but the door frames on the Alabeo look like the inside of a shark cage, or like somebody has a loose set of golf clubs sitting on the console that keep on tip…

Under Consumer Contract EU law there's no right to a refund for digital content. A trader doesn't to have supply any digital content until after the 14 days cancellation period - unless the consumer specifically asks it for it earlier and accepts that he's lost the right to cancel. He also loses that right as soon as the download starts. In other words, the consumer can cancel before the 14 days is over but the trader won't download the digital content unless that time is over. If you want it earlier you lose the right to cancel when the download starts.

Good morning / evening everyone, Lately, I have been spending countless hours searching for flights on flightaware, failing to find one that suits my time constraints before I miss out on my "slot." That certainly won't be an issue anymore, as we now have The Boeing 777 Route Database. This database was created by hand, through Excel, encompassing hundreds of flights carried out by the major alliance carriers (unfortunately, EK was excluded due to the sheer number of flights they offer). The 777-200, 777-200ER, 777-300, and 777-300ER are included in this file with very simple information listed clearly. This flight database has many uses: Simple use for …

Eric Bruneton Is a name that should be known to anyone interested in modern procedural worldbuilding. His project: PROLAND was and is a spiritual ancestor of Outerra, but after the Proland project, I heard little of him until in the last few days he suddenly resurfaced with new videos to add to his scholarly papers. Fascinating stuff, as always. I always loved his RAMA stuff, and as usual there are probably insights useful to many other types of project. And of course, if you are inclined to play, Mr Bruneton provides a real-time demo where the user can navigate in Rama with a helicopter-like vehicle, and view each light path contribution separately or combined wi…

I want to do a simulated flight over Yosemite park and Grand Canyon but in real life don't you have to stay like +2000'AGL above the highest area? Can aircharter companies get special permission to fly lower? If, so how would that work?

Seeing that trade restrictions have been lifted between the US and Cuba, this announcement by Eastern Airlines is of notable news. This link was sent to me by John Loney Jr. http://worldairlinenews.com/2015/05/26/eastern-air-lines-to-operate-its-firs t-revenue-flight-tomorrow/ It shows a 737-800 in the old Eastern livery. It is great news for this defunct airline to once again resume a revenue generating route. I checked the library and there is only one AFCAD remake of the airport by Steve Lewis done in 2009. Would be a good scenery project for someone but I'm not sure where you would find up to date source material for current building architecture, etc. Tom G…

Hi all We're recruiting Beta testers for our Prague Airport scenery. Please be aware that we're only looking for few people who: - knows that testing is pretty boring stuff, tedious work and it's all but game - knows that documentation is annoying but absolutely necessary stuff - has a systematic aproach - long term simulator user (no newbies, sorry) - idealy have a provable testing skills (not necessarily just flight simulation focused) - owns AES and/or GSX, ORBX Global and ASN products (idealy all) - are ready to sign non-disclosure agreement. After some time (like 4-6 weeks), the best selected testers will be awarded and will get chan…

May 11th, 2015 – A new flight simulator community website has been completed and is now officially open. www.nexgenflightsim.com The website, dubbed “the Next Generation Flight Simulator SIM-Posium opens its doors to all flight simulator enthusiasts and the general public for the purpose of discussing the future of consumer oriented flight simulation and the probability of creating a community driven next generation flight simulator. Ok, this is a sort of weird question that doesn't really pretain to much, but what is with the fsx boxed prices? It is ranging from 60$-200$ in price right now? I am pretty sure this is due to fsx-se, but whether it is temporary or not is what puzzles me. Is this similar to flappy bird where the prices for phones with the app on it skyrocketed due to it not being around anymore for a period of time untill everyone forgot about it, or is this not really going to change that much since there is not any production of it anymore by Microsoft. I am not sure if the game even works anymore.Again this isn't a troubleshooting question or a please help, I already have the boxed ver…

I guess that is the way it happens sometimes. You wish and wish and wish and then it seems everyone is eager to build a new fanjet or two. Just in the last few weeks I have read about: Wilco Publications and Dassault have teamed up to build a series of Falcons. The first out the door will be the outstanding Falcon 7X. Milviz is beginning to mention their Bombardier Learjet 60XR. It is in the pipeline behind their KA and F-104. (This is my current favorite) Carenado has announced they are building the Phenom 300 and the Citationjet CJ2 to follow the Citation S550 and Hawker 850XP. Flightsimware announced on their facebook page on May 10th that their Lea…

I've been wanting a change of career to try something new after doing graphic design for almost 15 years now as full-time and as a freelancer. Since I really love aviation and love being at the airport. Does anyone know what type of positions I would be eligible for? I only have a associates degree in graphic design/visual communication. So I would need a job that doesn't require too many qualifications. I'm assuming a job that requires your typical High School Diploma/GED would work. I live in Houston and would like to work at KIAH (G. Bush International). I've been unemployed for almost 2 years now, and have been doing freelancing work while I can, but it's becomin…

From Wired: "A SECURITY RESEARCHER kicked off a United Airlines flight last month after tweeting about security vulnerabilities in its system had previously taken control of an airplane and caused it to briefly fly sideways, according to an application for a search warrant filed by an FBI agent. Chris Roberts, a security researcher with One World Labs, told the FBI agent during an interview in February that he had hacked the in-flight entertainment system, or IFE, on an airplane and overwrote code on the plane’s Thrust Management Computer while aboard the flight. He was able to issue a climb command and make the plane briefly change course, the document states." htt…

Community, The condition of sharing or having certain attitudes and interests in common. Community, a unified body of individuals. I've been moved to think about the concept of a flightsim community lately. I read a lot of the threads here and all to often they seem to descend to a level that seems to invalidate the definitions above. 'I like P3d/FSX/SE/X-Plane now so obviously that that makes you as a P3d/FSX/SE/X-Plane user an unenlightened fool!' kind of threads, you know the sort. Barely concealed contempt masquerading as conversation. We all have FS in common at the most basic level which would seem to satisfy some of the first definition but what are the attit…
