Why do some FS developers seem to be unable to cope with these?

I happen to see this link: http://aircharterguide.com/Operator_Info/DESERT+JET/97536/PALM+SPRINGS/67027 under their qualifications it lists all the states that they are licensed to fly in. so then my question is. Is this a requirement? Must be and if so, how much does it cost to get your license to serve/fly in a state?

Has anyone ever heard of this arcade game? It's called "Airline Pilots", and it simulates a 777 around what appears to be Tokyo. I found myself thinking about it for the first time in a while yesterday. When I was a child living in the Middle East, our local arcade had one. As I was an airliner geek way back then, a 777 'simulator' complete with a yoke and a throttle quadrant was the coolest thing in the world, and despite the game being entirely in Japanese I would be glued to it whenever I visited the arcade. About a year ago, I found one at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport near the observation deck, and using it brought back many great memories of my first experience with 'p…

I ummed and ahhed over where I should post this. FSX General, P3D General, PMDG General? I thought here would be a good choice as it may get a little...heated. A recent post sparked the idea for this thread. Who uses the Autoland capability in the Airliners more than landing manually? In the past, I've seen people base their buying decisions on whether a certain addon can 'autoland' (my favorite is 'can it do an ILS?') In general, these people tend to be of the younger variety. For me, the approach and landing is *the* challenge of Flight simming. I have PMDG's 737 and 777 and while these two beauties are almost 'autoland by default' (moreso the 777), I do everyt…

It's been awhile since I've flown the 777, but before taking off, I would normally load up PFPX to plan my flight and save the route and load it up in my FMC on the 777, and then select DEP/ARR and then activate. When browsing through the legs page to see all the different points, it seems very complete from start to finish. With the flight plan bringing us all the way down to the runway and I see that it includes the ILS as well. Is pressing the LOC/APP button on the MCP to capture the localizer and glideslope necessary anymore? And if so, at what point do you press the LOC button? Is there a rule to this?

I know this has been discussed but thought I'd bring it up again as I've seen some questions about some specific points and I've had an argument or two as well. Here is the FAA regulation. Sec. 91.117 — Aircraft speed. a] Unless otherwise authorized by the Administrator, no person may operate an aircraft below 10,000 feet MSL at an indicated airspeed of more than 250 knots (288 m.p.h.). b] Unless otherwise authorized or required by ATC, no person may operate an aircraft at or below 2,500 feet above the surface within 4 nautical miles of the primary airport of a Class C or Class D airspace area at an indicated airspeed of more than 200 knots (230 mph.). This para…

In PFPX we have many different rule sets to plan under. The most common ones I use of course are EU and US 121 domestic, since I do a vast majority of flying in either of those two regions. I know here in the US there is the basic "1-2-3 Rule" wherein the only times you are absolutely required to file and carry enough fuel for an alternate is if: - ONE hour before and after your ETA, there is a forecasted ceiling of less than TWO thousand feet and/or there is a forecasted visibility of less than THREE statute miles I often apply this to my EU planning as well, though I'm not very familiar with those regulations, and just sort of assume it follows similar reasoning, …

Hi guys, Apologies if I'm posting in the wrong place, but couldn't really find the perfect place to put this question! I'm sure this question applies to every modern aircraft with a typical Navigation display on the MFD. But can anyone tell me: In the top right hand corner of the navigation MFD there's a time which looks like 000.0z which is the time to the waypoint tuned into the NAV radio. Can anyone tell me what unit of time this is?! Many thanks, Dan

Benchmarks should always be taken with a grain of salt, and theres always the problem of whether certain improvements apply globally, or whether they have to be written into a program's code to be taken advantage of. Still, for what its worth, I thought this was interesting.

Have any of you flown on a 787? Is the experience what they claim? How is the temperature (are they ice cold)? I am scheduled to fly a Virgin Atlantic 787 from Heathrow back to Newark in July (going is a A340).

I know we have several simmers who enjoy their FDX VA and simming as "freight dogs" in general. Now, it appears, you may add TNT's network to FDX's. FDX already has pretty good coverage in the US and parts of Asia. Now you may add a more comprehensive Europe route structure as well! You can read about it here.

Hi Simmers; The 'Ultimate Terrain X Europe V2.0' is out and I would like to know how is it on frames per second? Heavy, perhaps? I read it is configurable. Can it perhaps be set to your rig? And also, if you have one or two night environment already installed, ie. Aerosoft products, how will they work, or not, together? I suppose it will be difficult to better Aerosoft's, but this one is the whole of Europe in one add on. Also at the price... I'm sure many simmers would like to know it too. As I was about to buy the first version I saw this one was out. Can anyone help here? Thanks a lot in advance. jcpg (john)

Hi guys I was both shocked and saddened to hear of Tom's passing away. To honor him, why don't we set up a big formation flight to pass right over his "home" (if anyone knows where it is). I envision a fleet of P-51, all in Avsim Racing Livery. And of course, get it on video. Let me hear if you like this idea, then we can begin training for it. Brgds Sven EDIT: As other work regarding a memorial flight is already well underway, please disregard this thread! /Sven

I was thinking as a memorial Avsim could re-post Tom's last interview 'The Janitor' about his life on the front page of Avsim. Keep it up there for awhile so those that haven't read it could easily read it again about the man who created and ran Avsim. I read part of it but never finished it before Tom broke the news. Just a suggestion for all those interested.

Just wondering, since I've lost 2 hard drives over the last several years and have had to reload all my FS stuff and it taking 2-3 months to do so - Does anyone use Carbonite or another on line backup program? how does it work for you - is it a simple reload back onto a new HD? I have all my FS stuff on a separate drive, but there are still plenty of things that end up on my main drive. so even when just the main drive went down, I still had to reload everything. Any ideas? Thanks much and happy Easter!!

Found this fun airport quiz that an American Airline pilot posted on Facebook. Most of you will probably get 10 out of 10 like I did. It's amazing how quickly an easily we can identify unnamed airport diagrams just from years of simming or flying. http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/wonkblog/wp/2015/02/13/quiz-can-you-identify-the-airports-in-these-minimalist-maps/

Hi everyone, I read an interview located in the AVSIM forum called the" Janitor" In that interview Tom expressed a wish for a new section in this forum called " Volunteer’s Wall of Pride " . With the sad news of his passing from us, could we create this for him? Could we put his name at the top of the list? We have all seen the ugly side of this forum. How soon we forget all the good and helpful people who have made it really a great place to be! I have read many of Tom's Posts and he could argue the points if he needed too, but his tone was always that of getting the correct answers to you and helping correct any issues you were having. He did it with honer. Just …

This comes in two parts; my health and the future of AVSIM to the community and our team of members, forum owners, etc. First, my health… To state it directly; I am dying. I am dying from a carcinoma that started as a tumor in my stomach cavity that enwraps my stomach feeder vessels, kidneys, liver, the major blood vessels of the area and which are so embedded and wrapped around the maze of blood vessels and nerves that there is no cure except that of delay. The carcinoma has spread to most of my major organs. I have been given a pessimistic short 90 days of survival up to a lifetime number of 365 days. Second, and most importantly, the future of AVSIM… The staff …
