  1. As the headline says, Harrison Ford crashed into the Penmar Golf Course. He had just taken off from Santa Monica in his Ryan PT22 and experienced some sort of failure and had asked to return to the airport. CNN press conference from the hospital lists Harrison in "Fair to Moderate condition." http://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/harrison-ford-injured-plane-crash-n318301 http://www.tmz.com/2015/03/05/harrison-ford-plane-crash-landing-golf-course-santa-monica/

Hi, The date has been set for the last Flight ever of the first QANTAS Boeing 747-400. As I mentioned before the aircraft will be housed at the Albian Park Historical Aircraft Museum. It will Leave its QANTAS Base at Sydney Kingsford Smith International Airport and fly down the coast to its new and permanent home. The QANTAS Boeing 747-400 will touch down at the Albian Park Airport on Sunday morning, the 8th March 2015 and the time will be at approx 8am Australian Eastern Daylight Saving Time. This will be subject to Weather conditions on that day. Would it be possible to put the date and time of touch down on Avsim's Front Page for all Flight Simulator and A…

Saw a documentary the other day on the development of the 747. Interesting that the whale was conceived as a pipe dream between Alen of Boeing and Trippe of Panam on a fishing trip and agreed to a 24 month time line to wheels up on prototype. And they did it! The engines even had to be developed. The first hulls where rolled out with model engine pods because they didn't have an engine for the thing yet. Compare that to how long it takes our favorite sim aircraft developer to get a simulation to us from the time it is announced. I guess that's why they were the greatest generation.

  5. Guys, I have had PM's from a number of you who don't have FSX:SE as to how they can donate for little Rosie Davies (if you don't know her yet, please read at the link below!) I have set up a direct donation campaign. All the funds raised on the funding web page go direct to Rosie. My mission packs for FSX:SE will continue to support her. Nothing is changing there. This just gives you another option of helping a wonderful little girl that the flight simulation community are already taking to their hearts! http://www.gofundme.com/o54h1k thank you all your incredible support. I like to consider myself relatively 'in the know' when it comes to what add-ons are in development by which manufacturers. However, I have no idea if there is a DC-10 for FSX or P3D (or even X-Plane I guess) that is currently in development. I remember seeing something about one on facebook like a year ago, but I forgot the name of the dev and haven't heard anything since. Is there anyone producing a DC-10 for ANY sim? I recently took up my CLS DC-10 and remembered what an awesome plane it is. A high-fidelity DC-10 along the lines of the PMDG T7, Majestic Q400, FlightFactor 757, or even the CS L1011 would be amazing.

  8. Hello All, I am sorry if this is in the wrong section... A friend and colleague of mine is involved with a group of dedicated pensioners in Scotland that are building a replica of a Sopwith 1 and a 1/2 strutter. They have done this in their own time and with their own money, using skills and technique all but lost in aviation. The quality of craftsmanship is outstanding and it has been a real labour of love for them. Their aim was to have it completed in time for the 100th anniversary of the Sopwith's first flight and it's arrival in Scotland. Unfortunately it is looking like they are about to loose their premises at East Fortune that they have been using as …

  9. Hi I hope this is the correct forum to place this post' Some traders are advertiseing FSX Gold (USED) with a piture of the originel logo. and not stateing if original or general (steam).edition. I got my fingers burnt the first time I ordered even though the sales piture showed the original logo in the left corner I recieved a new steam simulator. I accepted this and put away the steam disks. I then saw another original used FSX Gold for sale on Amazon. I emailed the seller and asked him to confirm that it was the original FSX gold and not the general Steam edition . He replied it was as advertised. I have just recieved a General new steam edition at a cost of £80+…

Hi, Are there any sources on the internet that provide the kind of one-stop data briefings offered by the FSX map? I want to turn that data, particularly runway alignment and esp. ILS frequencies, onto cards for my main airports. I intend to clip them onto my yoke. Any links appreciated!

I've been on a few VA websites, but none really start from scratch. What are they? Are they live? Do you need VATSIM? What is the attraction? How much freedom do you have? Can I fly the default airliners? I can't seem to find answers to these questions.

I was following Air Canada flight AC872 from CYYZ to EDDF last night on FlightRadar24. After takeoff, it climbed directly to 35,000 ft. It passed Newfoundland at about 0100 UTC this morning on N181F but, as it crossed waypoint JOOPY at the entry to NATU, it descended to 31,000 ft before going beyond radar coverage. When it reappeared at the other side, it was back at 35,000 ft. What could be the reasons for descending? As far as I could see, it was the only aircraft to do so.

  14. We have a thumping jetstream here atm, and looking at flights in Flightradar24 is quite interesting. There is one NZ Boeing 787 flight PER-AKL that just flew right overhead doing over 610kts / 700mph Groundspeed at 41,000ft. She was hauling &@($* to say the least, visually looked to be going faster than aircraft inbound to Tullamarine descending through the low FL100's at 300kts or so. Faster than Mach 1 groundspeed at altitude if there was no wind affecting airspeed. I find stats like this quite fascinating. At the other end of the scale, I've seen westbound aircraft near Perth on FR24 doing less than 300kts at cruising altitude. Be interesting t…

Hi guys, I downloaded Taburet's 3D Night Iberia, fsx, and found that my frames dropped to 3. Impossible to fly. I have an old computer that honestly works good. With all add ons it will do up to 70 fps. On a demanding add ons easily about 15+. So it's only with this night add on. What I"m trying to say is that although my computer is old, I never really had any problem like this one. It just handles FSX very well. Rarely stutters. I fly most payware planes with no problem. Is there any tweaks I can do for a better frame rate? Or is this add on topically heavy on frames? And if this is really heavy on frames which other night add on should work bette…

I was hoping that some of you can give your opinion on what the best Fictional VA is. By "best" I mean in terms of member activity, a good community, and a polished operation including a good ACARS system. I currently fly for Phoenix Virtual Airways, and although I love it I would also like to join a fictional VA. I don't know why, but there is something very fun about flying for an imaginary airline, to me at least. The one thing that I am looking for in my next VA is that they give the the opportunity to fly the J41, and/or the Q400, and/or 737-800 so that I can use the PMDG and Majestic models of these aircraft. Thanks for your input!

Just wondering does anybody take an interest in building model airplanes. Here is the thing though, the thought of hand painting my finished warplane puts me off, well because i can't paint and would mess up the finished product. I don't see the point in spending ages building a fantastic B-17, Mustang, or Spitfire and then destroying it with blobs of paint every where. I know some of the cheaper models for children you don't have to paint as they come pre-painted. I guess what i am looking for is a nice authentic looking warplane that i can build. I certainly don't mind spending extra money on something i like, that i don't have to paint  …

  21. Apparently the video of this skydiver in western Australia was uploaded to youtube yesterday. He was a trainee and had an epileptic seizure shortly after ju!ping out of a perfectly good working airplane. His instructor grabbed him and pulled the chute. He did have an automatic system which would have deployed the chute but the instructor thought he'd best try to deploy the chute ASAP. This ABC news link has the video and full story. http://www.abc.net.au/news/2015-03-02/skydiver-saved-after-passing-out-during-dive/6273694

  22. I am in a quite breath-taking flight right now, having just taken off out of Hana, Hawaii...in P3D v2.4, with all the 3rd party bells and whistles we all know about, and have honestly come to this simple conclusion for myself. I will never again, state that I REALLY love...(blah, blah) platform...and even most recently, have been putting in serious time with XPX, as it is maturing into one h*ll of a platform in its own right. Yes...I have been perhaps of late, running that platform as the first flight of my MANY flights per day and evening (this is a most valuable time hobby for myself, to relieve the stress of work, and every-day blah blah), but in taking off this morn…
