Hangar Chat

This forum is for the discussion of things you might discuss when going into an airport hangar.  Please make sure that your topic isn't covered in another forum before posting here.  Please refrain from controversial topics...politics, religion, conspiracy theories, climate change, COVID etc.  Topics that elicit or are deemed by staff likely to elicit heated argument, contention, or otherwise objectionable banter will be removed from view.  We allow some latitude, but please remember that, first and foremost, this is a flight-simulator oriented site frequented by people from all walks of life.

  1. Whew! it's been a long time since I posted anything on AVSIM, but I'm glad to be back! So, I would like to start off by saying hi to everyone! [Once again] Hi, everyone! Let us reflect upon the great times we had and cherish with FSX. Oh, I love my FSX, but when I read articles about it, I always see the same old fact... it was first released in mid-October of, ready for this? 2006. Yep, I'm sure most of you know, but we are using an eight-year-old simulator. Nonetheless, FSX falls nothing short of awesome and spectacular for many, but we must ask ourselves... what new flight simulator can be revived with today's modern computer programming software? Even better, …

Can anybody tell me if these planes ever existed? Whenever I read about them, everyone said they were "ideas" that never became a reality, but a quick Google search will give you quite a few pics, and they don't look photo shopped at all. The DC-10 Twin would have been a big competitor for the A300.

Hello all, I've always been a GA guy, making circuits or flying VFR from place to place has been my game for years now. As I've been getting older I've become more and more interested on getting deeper into how the aircraft work, and that has lead me to more complex simulations like A2A. I never really thought I'd be interested in learning how to fly Airliners, but moving recently under a route near Boston Logan has peaked that interest. So how the heck do I do it? Do I go straight for PMDG? Which one? Virtual Airlines? Manuals? Trianing Videos? I'm overwhelmed. Not having much knowledge of this stuff is unsettling. Part of me wants to go large and just go for…

I don't remember who mentioned this here in the forum a while back, but thank you! Being a huge fan of space flight, I can't believe I hadn't heard of this before. Even in it's current alpha state, it's fantastic. It's more or less the old "Buzz Aldrin's Race Into Space" game on steroids. You design rockets, you fly rockets, you sometimes often fail spectacularly, you deal with real orbital dynamics, you can land on other worlds, and you might even make it home alive. If you do everything right. These aren't my own pictures, by the way... I can manage a low orbit, but that's about it …

Hi guys, I am genuinely considering buying a tablet-pc, but haven't too much knowledge about the system behind this hardware. I want to use it for viewing charts (probably with the tool of navigraph, but I am not sure yet, whether to subscribe or not) and other stuff. Do you know whether it's possible to run tools like: PFPX TOPCAT Vpilot on a tablet? I've read very good reputation on the Samsung Galaxy Tab 4. This one wouldn't be that expensive either. I think it would be worth considering buying a tablet, so you could use it for many different tasks.

My thoughts and prayers to all of those people killed or injured in the recent 7.8 earthquake in India. Having gone though a major earthquake here in the Washington, DC area in 2013 (only 4.9 magnitude), I understand the horrors the citizens of India must have gone through. It is a terrifying event no matter what the magnitude of the quake. I heard that many might even have died in avalanches on Mount Everest. I hope our AVSIM members from the affected areas in India are all safe and sound. Best wishes,

Somebody lands there! I don't know where else to put this. Just found the funnest place to fly ... er, land ... in P3D that I've been to. 59ca, "Lost Hands" https://skyvector.com/airport/59CA/Little-Hands-Airport Probably is a very good man that doesn't want people getting in to trouble. I have concluded that if I'm am able to land the A36 there, I probably can land it anywhere.

  14. Its about that time of year the anniversary of the sinking. These guys are trying recreate the entire ship and when I say exact down to the last rivet, take a look at these videos and screens and play the demo and consider a donation to make this project a reality! Most of these screens are from before they switched engines to Unreal 4 which has made everything look even better! If you contribute $50 you get a copy of the game and early access to a backer exclusive demo. https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/titanic-honor-and-glory-phase-3 DEMO:http://www.titanichg.com/demo/ https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCX99blR1pC2290NcBa_FsPA

Hi all, I've been wondering if there's a way to find the particular aircraft that flew a certain route years ago. In particular, I'm looking for the registrations of two 777-300ERs which operated SQ334 on 7/06/07 (SIN-CDG) as well as SQ333 on 08/06/07 (CDG-SIN). Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance,

Hi there, I have come across a few photos of Fokker 100s landing at Texel on touch and gos, yet as far as I know there is only a grass runway at Texel. Why on earth would they land a jet aircraft like this on a grass runway? Could they not have done circuits at Eindhoven or Rotterdam? Is the Fokker approved to land on a grass runway? Cheers John

Hi everyone! First of all, I'm new to AVSIM so I don't know if this topic is in the right place. If not, please tell me. One or two years ago, I've downloaded a fantastic program developed by Paavo Pihelgas named Aerotow. It allows you to change the default tow plane and make it fly patterns around your origin airport. Some weeks ago, I've tried to find a newer version, since I found on few forums that there is a version that allows you to fly a specified flight plan, which my version can't do. Many (if not all) of the forums referred to the following link: http://lennundus.orgkaos.org/failid/workinprogress/aerotow/?M=D, but it is now dead. Does anyone know if th…

I noticed a paragraph from an old webpage of 2002 talking about landing in HongKong (as a commercial airline passenger) 8 years earlier, that would be 1994 (Hong Kong belonged to Britain at that time). Anyways, here it is below, I wonder if there are youtube videos of landings at the old airport in Hong Kong? " This time, the airplane landed at a NORMAL airport -- one with a straight-on approach path for the plane to follow. If you never flew into the old Kai Tak airport, you probably don't know what I'm talking about. The approach path to the Kai Tak airport required incoming passenger aircraft to fly a terrifying, low-level, zigzag path onto the runway. I sat b…
