Hi Fellows Just wanted to share. The Pentagon has chosen Boeing's 747-8 to replace the two aging planes that serve as the President's Air Force One fleet. http://www.cnn.com/2015/01/28/politics/boeing-air-force-one-fleet/index.html Bill

I'm using version 5.0 of that great product. While flying online on VATSIM the AI engine sounds are just too loud ! How can I fix it ?

  3. I've noticed in real life flight deck videos that when the first officer lands a plane, and at the end of the roll-out, the captain takes control and does the taxi to terminal. I'm curious why this is? EA

  4. Started by CaptainAdlai,

I'm curious about the number (if any) of major accidents our virtual pilots have. Do you crash frequently? Excluding goofing around, of course, who here has sent a bunch of virtual passengers to their graves? I've done it once. I decided to take some people on a fishing trip, flying a Falcon 50 on an IFR flight in Alaska. On the approach to Sitka, I was totally IMC, and due to incorrectly reading a chart, flew into a hill I couldn't see until it was just mere few feet away. It sounds stupid, but these pilot-error-type things are the biggest causes of real crashes. Needless to say, I was infuriated to crash a plane; I figured I'd never do it. I have an otherwise perfec…

  5. Hi, I recently tried flying through a canyon in my plane, and thought that it was good fun and a good way to learn how to maneuver the plane. Surely I am not the first one to think of this  ... so now I am looking for more canyons / valleys to practice maneuvering in. Nice to have: Airport nearby to take-off from, Highway or River to follow, “V” shaped instead of “U” shaped, Easy-wide, and moderate, (it will be a while before I get to the narrow-hard ones). The only one that I have tried so far is Interstate-5 north from KVNY through the Newhall pass (starting at the I-5 and CA-14 split) using a Cessna-172 and a Lancair-Legacy. Thanks in advance JD

I hate the word drone, as it conjours up so many negative emotions, far better to be referred to as a UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle) I was up at the crack of dawn on Sunday and by the evening I had edited this short film, which to be honest, was only supposed to be test footage. However, I was so impressed with the footage, I thought I'd put together a short film and share it online. I hope you like fellas.. BTW, watch in HD fullscreen!

Hello, Happy Sunday To Everyone  Here is something i have just noticed. I bought and installed the Milviz 530, i checked the box "wide view aspect ratio" so to give me a better view in my new chopper. As i was panning around the cockpit to my left i noticed a blue/white texture as i panned around more it was like the scenery was peeling off and i was seeing the underneath. I have never seen this before but then again i have never used Wide aspect ratio before either, it was only happening to my left. I tried my A2A aircrafts and it was there alright but not as obvious as the chopper. Any ideas, not the end of the world but still would …

  11. I have been trying for 9 months now to switch over to P3D. Problem is, I don't *yet* see a big advantage to switching over completely. To be sure, there are advantages but there are also disadvantages and, with every release, I install and tune it up to see where it is. It's getting there, slowly. So, while I'm working on this, I look at products to buy and I come across some that come out and some of them want me to buy both an FSX and P3D version. Well, I'm not planning on keeping FSX for that much longer so I don't want to get the FSX version. On the other hand, I don't want to buy the P3D version only since I'm not there yet. I'm between the two and I think …

  13. This would be amazing for Flight Simulation: http://money.cnn.com/2015/01/21/technology/innovationnation/microsoft-windows-holographic/index.html If Microsoft got back in the game this would be the way to go. Lockheed would do well with this also with P3D. TrackIR was great but to virtually have a full cockpit Holographically around you that you could interact with would be amazing. This could turn the gaming industry on it's head was well.

  14. Why do we as a community settle for old flight simulator software made by a long gone company, or software that will never meet the demands of our hobby? It's been brought up before by many that the cost to create a new flight simulator is out of reach and not possible. But I look around at projects like Elite Dangerous and Star Citizen, and heck even that train simulator "Trainz" who have turned to Kickstarter and have been funded with millions of dollars. Two space simulator games and a train simulator game reached their goals. But nobody, and I'm talking about developers like PMDG who have the know-how, will step up to the plate to even try a Kickstarter campaign…

I am fairly new to Vatsim and always fly IFR. I only have the one computer with one monitor. Currently I have a notebook that I have been printing and saving some Airport charts and ILS frequency's but it looks like I will be needing the SID and STAR charts as well to fly properly. How do you guys look at all of these charts while you fly?

  18. Started by Christopher Low,

I remember seeing an Air Transport International DC8 depart EGPH Edinburgh around 15 years ago, and I have been trying to find out the exact type and registration of this aircraft for some time. It was (as far as I can remember) in an all white colour scheme, with Air Transport International written in black letters on both sides of the forward fuselage. I have just come across some EGPH Edinburgh archives today, and I think that the aircraft may have been N61CX (a DC8-62HF). This aircraft apparently visited EGPH Edinburgh in 2000, so the timeframe is correct. Does anyone know if N61CX was operated by Air Transport International at that time, and if it had an all whit…

Hi Chris, I've been interested in Night Environment for a while, so today I downloaded the Berlin demo and installed in into P3D. I spent about half an hour or so enabling and disabling the various layers, as stated in the manual, to asses performance. After a while I settled Base + Level 3 and flew around for a bit. Frames were good, between 30 and 47 (which is what I have the sim locked to). After circling around for a while, I decided to land so made my way over to EDDB. I don't have any add-on scenery for this airport other than what FTX Global provides. Shortly after landing, and during the taxi, the simulator crashed. It was not an OOM. In fact I've not …

So, I've had problems with accessing the site via tapatalk for over a year. I recently just tried to re-download the app to my iPhone to see if the problem had been solved, but it has not. Whenever I try to sign in after 'add'ing avsim on tapatalk, I get an "Access Denied: this forum is not available, please try again later" error message. Is this a tapatalk problem, or an avsim problem? Is avsim no longer available on tapatalk?

  22. I am just wondering if there are any Avsim members who post over at Airliners.net. I browse the forums there and quite enjoy looking at some of the real world aviation/airliner posts but have never purchased the $25 lifetime posting membership or the Premium annual membership. I read some stuff on there and really want to post but I do have a bit of a resistance to paying just to join a community forum that has advertising. Your thoughts ?

After several frustrating uninstalls I am thinking of taking another crack at mastering the complex, challenging and beautiful MD80. Since Delta and American still have a number in their fleets I was wondering if the ones they fly today still have the old cockpit lay out you get with Cool Sky and Leonardo's models. A mixture of EFIS and steam. I wish some developer would give us a full functional MD90 or Boeing717.
