It's that time of year again. What sim software were your greatest disappointments for last year? Here's mine: Orbx W16 Monroe First Air - far too heavy on VAS. Carenado PC12 - the community did A LOT of work to get it right and there are still issues. I find it uninspiring.

I was thinking the other day about addons I currently have or used to have that revolutionized my flight simulator experience and thought this would be an interesting topic for discussion. I realize there are some addons that we all would agree on that completely changed the landscape of flight simulation, and there are some that had a much profounder impact on some over others. I'm interested in the former. Think about it and enter the discussion: What addons (scenery, aircraft, utility, flight sim version, whatever) do you think revolutionized flight simulator and have had the greatest impact on our hobby as a whole? Tell us why. There is no right or wrong, but …

Hello, I know what I'm about to say might come out wrong to some people but just hear me out. I think that us having to stand the same graphical engine for about 8 years is stupid. The amount of hours spent on making addons for this outdated game is amazing. Think about how plane addons would look in a newer more updated flight simulator. I know what im saying is in someway not feasible since not as many people are interested in flight sims anymore, but in the hours and money spent making addons and still having 20 fps on a $2000 pc is ridiculous, think about It.

The best part of the story is where he talks about the 3 plane sonic boom over Hanoi. Also the missions to "boom foreign leaders". Check it out: http://www.chonday.com/Videos/sr71jetplane1

I prefer tuning my own nav frequencies in the sim but I was wondering about real airline procedures. I know you have to tune your own ILS freg but how about en route NAVAIDS? Is it a matter of pilot preference to let the FMC tune for itself to cross check itself or maybe this varies with company policy? Any hints from real life jet jocks would be interesting. Thanks in advance.

Dear Fellow Flightsimmers and Avsim readers, Recently I returned to FSX after nearly ten years away from Microsoft's venerable sim. I used to be a regular here on Avsim's forums, contributing to many conversations and the screenshots forum, along with the likes of Edetroit back in the day. My return a year or so ago started with DCS and the incredible study sim which is A10C. I invested in a powerful rig that runs DCS maxed out at 60FPS and beyond. I learned the ropes of flying the Black Shark, and the shockingly powerful Mig21 module. All the while feeling nostalgic about my days flying heavies in FS2002 and FS2004. About a month ago I installed FSX. I honest…

Hello everyone. A lot of us flying long range (or medium range) flights, is FS and in real life. Some of us even don't use simulation speed increment because of model or VA restrictions or just can't, because it is a real life. And besides reading charts, document and working comms, there's always some free time that you just have to kill somehow, or you'll die from the boredom. So how do you do that? The most interesting is a real world pilots stories, and regulations about that. Is it just a crossword books, newspapers and 15 minutes napping, or something else? Is it allowed to bring a laptop, web-tablet or, perhaps, a handheld gaming console in a cockpit? And how a…

Hello all I wanted to ask the atc pros out there about altitude and speed constraints that you often see on charts, namely: can these get overruled by an atc clearance? Let me give you an example, let's say I'm on this STAR (LUSAR 1N) And I'm somewhere near LUSAR at FL220, if the controller clears me directly to 5000 ft, does that mean I can bypass the altitude constraints on the chart? Same for speed, if he says "free speed", I assume you can go up to 250kts under 10000ft and whatever speed above 10k? Finally is it the same for SIDs? Someone told me that there were some differences between STARs and SIDs in this regard.

Due to the $5 sale my partner decided to get a copy as well and now she is really getting into it. She is learning through the tutorials so pretty soon we can start doing multiplayer together. We have lived together for 3 years now so pretty cool to be sharing this hobby together after all this time. She is a paraglider as one of her hobbies so flight is of interest to her, just never with airplanes before. I prefer airplanes over paragliding because so many paragliders end up with broken backs. Hopefully this takes her interest away from Paragliding and into proper aviation.

"On 1 January 2015, a new EU ruling concerning value-added tax (VAT) on telecommunications, broadcasting & electronic services comes into force. It should ensure more fairness in the EU-wide VAT distribution but tremendously affects small one-man-businesses or startups as they commonly exist in the flightsim community. Francois Dumas effectively closed his FSAddon online store yesterday facing the expenditure connected with the new regulation. What you need to know about regulation number 1042 /2013 can be found over at flusinews.de".

Just thinking about that today, how mucho importante for me is when freeware/payware plane must have a good suspension work. I almost always love to watch a recording of landings, and I don't do that with default airliners, because they land like a brick - they don't have a bit of suspension work, blah. I can't recall which decent payware airplane I bought, and I didn't use it since I watched the landing with it. It was immidiate turn off after I saw that there is absolute no suspension work, like the gears are on the wooden sticks. For me that is one of the most important aspects regarding exterior model. Bought CLS MD-81/82 package few days ago, and I was amazed how go…

Decided to take the plunge on Orbx Global and take advantage to the Holiday discount. The FlightSim Store had it listed for $54.79 US, but at checkout the price was $66.95 US. I figured some sort of bank exchange fee, but $12 on a $55 purchase? Why oh Why, didn't I become a banker.
