Hangar Chat
This forum is for the discussion of things you might discuss when going into an airport hangar. Please make sure that your topic isn't covered in another forum before posting here. Please refrain from controversial topics...politics, religion, conspiracy theories, climate change, COVID etc. Topics that elicit or are deemed by staff likely to elicit heated argument, contention, or otherwise objectionable banter will be removed from view. This is the complaint I hear from my family: "Dad's so hard to buy for. I have no idea what to get him." I don't want Christmas to be a time of stress for people. So I bought four items averaging around $50 and sent out an email listing them to my wife and (grown) kids. Aerosoft's new F-14 iFly's 747 fs2crew for 767 & Aerosoft's Airbus FSDreamTeam's KIAH The rules are each picks one and pays whatever they feel like on it, up to $50. They're already downloaded and won't be installed until Christmas. Each one will be considered a bona fide gift (since I probably would think twice about buying them myself). If they cover the whole price, great; if not, I enjoy a d…

According to the anti-piracy company Excipio, the shutdown of the original Pirate Bay only caused the tiniest of ripples in the metaphorical global piracy ocean. On Monday December 8, Excipio tracked 101.5 million IP addresses on BitTorrent trackers worldwide (there’s no word on their methodology, but presumably this excludes private trackers). On December 9, it dropped to 99 million, then 95 million on December 10, and 95.6 million on December 11. By Friday, it was back to 100.2 million, which is in line with the pre-shutdown average. There was a blip, then, while people looked for a Pirate Bay alternative — but it didn’t take them very long to get back into the groove. …

Sorry about that folks. We were offline for 20 minutes or so inadvertently due to me. No system issues, just me having a senile moment. System is now back online and is slowly getting its legs back. May seem slow for a bit, but that will clear up.

Hi all, I see Rockstar have added virtual cockpits in their G-T-A-5 series for XBox-One and PS4. (Sample video enclosed). And as you probably know, GTA5 has finally been announced for the PC -so plenty of scope for flight-based mods etc; plus a chance to finally fix the dreaded helicopter wobble :-). As a long-term user of FSX I'm all in favour of the GTA series expanding its virtual flying with each new series, especially since millions of teenagers play this open-world game regularly and many will naturally develop a deeper interest in flight simulators and flying as a result. Hi, A strange question....what is the difference between course and heading? I learnt that there were 2 types of course: - One with a VOR or a LOC - The "route" over the ground. A HDG is where the aircraft is pointing. So when we enter HDG 30, it just means that the nose of the plane should be pointing 30°? But it means that the plane can be flying in another direction than HDG 30° over the ground??????? Dangerous! Thanks to help!

I don't have the budget to ever actually take flying lessons but if I could I'd want this lady for an instructor. Even just being a sim pilot I just found this video highly instructional and entertaining.

We have been lead down this road a few times recently, but maybe this international print/digital magazine article will shed a little more light on the subject. Hence the cautious title. I had this News Flash from Key Publishing in my inbox this morning announcing a feature interview to be available later this week: EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW with Dovetail Games who recently acquired a global licensing deal for Microsoft Flight Simulator. Quote "Read our EXCLUSIVE interview with Dovetail Games – the new ‘Pilot in Command’ of Microsoft’s Flight Simulator franchise, in the new issue of PC Pilot. In this fascinating and detailed interview, we learn about the …

At the Västerås Aviation Museum in Västerås, Sweden, there is a unique Convair 440 simulator. The simulator dates back to the 1970s and was used for crew training at Linjeflyg and later SAS Scandinavian Airlines. Today the simulator is open for the public. The museum also have a DC-10 simulator and a J-35 "Draken" sim. Not everything is operating system-wise yet, though, but the feeling is great. If you like to fly classic propliners, and are going to Sweden someday, make sure to visit the museum, which also has a large and unique collection of aircraft on display. Here is me, flying the runway 26 approach into Innsbruck airport, LOWI. Sorry for the bad landing... :roll…

I recently upgraded my computer and have a half built (ok maybe 80%), computer laying around. I'm in Chicago, USA and was wondering if anyone can suggest good things to do with it other than keeping it for spare parts. It's got a motherboard, first gen i7 processor, some old RAM, a GTX 285, case, and a generic DVD drive. No power supply, HDD's. As I can see, the components are virtually worthless by now, but I wouldn't mind making a few bucks out of it if someone could point me to a resale option (other than evil bay, I don't have the will power to do that one). I haven't found any options on that line though. If there are no options that would get me a little bit o…
