Hangar Chat

This forum is for the discussion of things you might discuss when going into an airport hangar.  Please make sure that your topic isn't covered in another forum before posting here.  Please refrain from controversial topics...politics, religion, conspiracy theories, climate change, COVID etc.  Topics that elicit or are deemed by staff likely to elicit heated argument, contention, or otherwise objectionable banter will be removed from view.  We allow some latitude, but please remember that, first and foremost, this is a flight-simulator oriented site frequented by people from all walks of life.

  1. This is an amazing time-lapse montage showing the process of 'updating' an venerable Citation II S550 with GTN750/650 units. I'm so glad that virtual aircraft cockpits don't have to deal with this mess of spaghetti wiring! https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=lvu6k4HHzXU

  2. Hi All, Razbam Metroliner is on sale at a great price. For those who have it, can you tell me where it falls in the spectrum of systems complexity, FDE , graphics and bugs. Is it on the "Lite" side or more toward a PMDG, Majestic , A2A side of things. I'm only looking for products with systems that are modeled in depth. Doesn't have to be PMDG quality, but certainly not Captainsim style. Bugs we all have to live with but are there any show stoppers. How's the support? And realistic night lighting would be a plus. Thanks a lot for your help. Cheers, BrianG

Why is it every morning the last few days, when trying to access the Avsim website, I either get a 503 Service Unavailable Error, or if I persist in trying to load the page, it takes an eternity, before eventually throwing up yet another 503 Error? Is anybody else experiencing this? Firefox---cache cleared.

Hi! Here we can see VOR2. We had talked a lot, on my previous posts about GPS. Airbus autotunes VOR's and we can enter it in the RAD NAV page of the FMGC. Just one question: When it autotunes or when we enter VOR1, does it use the VOR antenna's to display it? Or is it the GPS that sends the position to the FMGS that calculates on which CRS of the VOR we are? Because, in any case, when we enter a TRK/CRS and the frequency of a VOR, it still uses GPS (GPS sends signal to the MMR which sends signal to the FMGS, then to the F/D, to the A/P and the ELAC computer and finally to the hydraulic jack) 2) When we lose FMGS, where does the GPS signal go after the MMR? It sti…

I haven't provided system statistics in a while, so I thought since we are closing in on the end of the month, that we would post some. These are all from August 1st until 10 minutes ago. Enjoy!

  10. The MD11's last commercial flight was yesterday, October 25. KLM672 from Amsterdam to Montreal and back officially concluded the airline's MD11 service. From now on, that route will be operated in Airbus A330s ( ). You can see the last flight here: http://flightaware.com/live/flight/KLM672

I notice the topic here beneath, "Elite Dangerous" , didn't accumulate much replies so i don't have much hope for this one neither but one never knows what lurks outthere in space, isn't it.. @ rene_1st: thanks for givin it a try. B) I have tremendously enjoyed Elite on my Atari1024 stfm back then and i'm certainly thinking about buying this new generation. Love the videos and the fact that the developer seems to have kept the original feel of the game. I think with some practise i can get right back into it again. But now there's 'Star Citizen' too.... While 60 Euros for Elite Dangerous Beta is already not for the weak of portemonnee i really don't know what …

I just wanted to say how I am continually impressed by the Avsim commmunity. A small example: About a week ago it was announced that Southwest Airlines is debuting a new livery. Tonight in the daily file library upload notification there was a repaint file for the 737 in the new SWA Heart One livery. The dedication to produce a freeware repaint so quickly is demonstrative of the good spirit of this fine hobby. Thanks to those of you who give so much of yourselves for the enjoyment of others.

  21. AIR New Zealand is known for its epic safety videos and their latest one, including some surprising cameos, could be their best yet. The slick, 4-minute clip, cheekily titled “The Most Epic Safety Video Ever Made,” features costumed figures from the “Hobbit” movies cavorting in a mountainous Middle-earth like setting while urging passengers to buckle seat belts, use oxygen masks and so on. I purchased this little gem about three weeks ago and can't quit flying it. Although I am an avid PMDG fan I also have my PPL license so I am into GA aircraft. I have many models including Carenado, but I do not have any Accu Sim. This is by far the most realistic aircraft I have flown. What are your thoughts?
