Hi 1) What is exactely the yaw axis? 2) Can we manually do a yaw turn? 3) When do we use yaw? 4) If we can do it manually, how do we do it? Thanks

Unfortunately not all flight simulators we use offer the chance of damage modelling up to the point of simulating the aerodynamics of an aircraft that has suffered severe damage, like the loss of part of a wing. I am using two excellent flight dynamics simulators, and on each of those it is possible to model the effects of losing part of some lift generation surfaces, like the wings ( but not only ... ). It's frequent to see users post their admiration regarding the possibility of flight, and even return to base, under such extreme conditions, and although there are some fake, but also some good videos on youtube showing it, Yo-Yo, the brain behind the extraordina…

Hi, I am familiar with Oceanic Procedures etc., however I have a question regarding choosing your preferred route vs turbulence. I am using the following site which depicts High Level SIGWX along with NATs. http://www.jetplan.com/tda/west.html This is TMI265. Now, according to my calculations, NATA would be the most efficient one to choose (fuel & time wise) @FL350. Problem is that it crosses through a moderate turbulence area as it is shown above. Therefore, should I opt for a different NAT track or should I stick with NATA? I mean what is more important: To avoid turbulence at any cost or to choose the most fuel or time efficient one and…

Hi everyone! Rnav routes are used to go faster and without navigation from VOR to NDB to VOR... There are T roures and Q routes and both use GPS or IRS/INS. But could anyone explain what is the difference between an airway and an RNAV airway? They both fly from waypoints to waypoints, don't they? Thanks!

Flying, on an airplane, piloting, was probably the first thing that I remember being a strong objective in my live, just like with with most of you here at the AVSIM forums. I was lucky to get my PPL at the age of 16 - gliders - and still keep it current, although I seldom fly these days. Flight simulation, just like with everyone around here, was a passion too. It allowed me to get to experience, the closer I could to RL, flying many aircraft types I could never fly as a pilot. Unfortunately, I was always very demanding about it, and there were always minimal checks a flight simulator had to fulfill to stay longer than a few days on my disk. Some simulators …

  11. Hello, I am looking to purchase some FSX aircraft that I can use a wing view that i can set up without having to use the one they built (if any at all). I know y'all with think I'm crazy but I could care less about a VC panel. Never use them. Don't ask why lol The QW757 is perfect in that regard and several other ways. Any suggestions before I commit to buying

Apparently Boeing aircraft do not use the rudder when autopilot is engaged to turn/yaw. Airbus on the other hand does. Why the difference? Should one be engaging the rudder pedals when making bank turns (30 degrees) when autopilot is turned off? Or is this dependent on company SOP? Thank you.

Hi, Is it possible to have access to the previous Avsim demographic surveys? Are the results of these still around? I have only been able to find the 2013 and 2012 results here on Avsim. It would be very interesting to see how our community has developed over the last decade. Looking forward to the results of the 2014 survey! Espen Øijordsbakken Coolsky

Headline says it all, and I know it's a heated debate between air travellers. The screaming infant is a nuisance ruining the peace for most passengers who need to sleep on intecontinental flights and have also ruined many of my flights trough sleepness nights hence I couldn't attend important meetings at my destination costing me both money and experience. Many other passengers with a schedule, government agents and businessmen have similar feelings about screaming/running kids aboard and would thus pay more for a childfree flight. What are your opinions? Yes, No? Childfree airlines, childfree flights? Childfree areas? I do realise there is a lot of parents out th…

If you have 20 mins spare, take a look at this TED video, with Bertrand Piccard. This guy is a real hero. Of aviation but also of the pioneering spirit. Solar Impulse II recently had it's first test flights earlier this year. It flies using solar power (which power electric motors but also charge some batteries that then power the plane at night, when there's no sunlight). It will soon attempt a 'unfuelled' RTW flight. https://www.ted.com/talks/bertrand_piccard_s_solar_powered_adventure What an inspirational guy

Howdy guys, I confronted with an question I can´t answer, maybe you know more: I love flying arround Washington State and thus I sometimes have to enter Canadian airspace (at least flying though some parts. Is that legal with an US-based plane without a flight plan (only VFR)? Same question for military jets (Whidbey NAS is a lovely station)?

  25. I apologize ahead of time if this is in the wrong place but I want to head off any speculation immediately before people debate the legitimacy of AirGlobalX. Recently a new set of OOM scams has been published in the form of "AirGlobalX" if you notice on their site, the design (and HTML) code are identical in many ways, also their refund policy is identical. Please beware. Doing a google search it appears they are also trying to sell off what I presume to be someone else's airbus like FlightReal sold off someone else's scenery. Here is some evidence: 1. Obvious spam on flightsim.com: http://www.flightsim.com/vbfs/showthread.php?282422-Airglobalx-OOM-Fixer-Out-of-…
