Hangar Chat

This forum is for the discussion of things you might discuss when going into an airport hangar.  Please make sure that your topic isn't covered in another forum before posting here.  Please refrain from controversial topics...politics, religion, conspiracy theories, climate change, COVID etc.  Topics that elicit or are deemed by staff likely to elicit heated argument, contention, or otherwise objectionable banter will be removed from view.  We allow some latitude, but please remember that, first and foremost, this is a flight-simulator oriented site frequented by people from all walks of life.

I just arrived in Chitose Airport, Japan which caters to both passenger and military flights and also has a spa. This afforded me the opportunity to watch both triple 7s and F15s touching down while completely naked. Can anybody beat that?

  2. Our live interview, last night, with Mr. Richard, has kindly been made available in .mp3 format. Listen HERE - Joseph

  4. We've (mostly) all been there. You purchase new hardware. Your add-ons get away from you. You make a bad tweak and hork up the entire system. Time for an FSX rebuild! As much as we've been told by folks like Froogle, and others, we are as bad at documenting our tweaks as developers are at commenting their code. Selfishly, I am posting this topic in hopes to take a stab at creating a tweak guide, that is based on trial and error, documented, and includes a checklist. (All aviators, real life or virtual love checklists). I offer up my rig as the guineapig. I'm looking for experienced tweakers, and tweak authors who are willing to work on the tweak guide to end a…

Hi I just had this question: for example, you are in cruise level, you are talking with your co-pilot. I am sure that every other plane can't hear your conversation. So basically what do you do? When you mute your VHF/HF in the AMP, are they still able to hear you? Or do you mute both conversations? I don't think you push the VHF/HF you have tuned in the RMP...it would remove you from the frequency!! Thanks

The first Eastern 737-800 has rolled out of the paint shop at Shannon. I think it looks wonderful, and I think that all my fellow airline nerds will agree that it's good to see an Eastern bird in 2014! Unfortunately I was born too late to fly on the original Eastern, but hopefully their launch will be smooth and I will be able to fly them in the near future. http://www.airliners.net/photo/Eastern-Air-Lines/Boeing-737-8AL/2534317/&sid=bf24f57dacb0134debe4afeb66af861a My apologies if this has already been posted.

I just came across a new "special" publication from the editors of PC Pilot Magazine called X-Plane 10 - The Official Guide I wouldn't call it "official" since it was not produced by Laminar Research, but otherwise it is quite good and provides many comparisons direct between FSX and X-Plane. It is sufficiently new that it even has X-Plane 10.3 info in it. For anyone thinking of trying out X-Plane as their future flight simulator, this magazine is well worth it's cover price. I have no connection to Key Publishing so I don't really think this post qualifies as belonging in the Announcements and Bargains section. ^_^ It's just a "heads up".

  13. So i sim in my Cessna Cargomaster a lot. Sometimes it happens that im too high on approach, i won't make it with "normal" procedures. So i slowed down, deployed full flaps and idled my engine and put the plane into a stable 15 to 20 degrees nosedive, at 80 to 90 knots, descending at more than 3000 feet per second, sometimes i can keep a 4000fpm nosedive without gaining speed  This way i made the landing perfectly fine and didn't need to go around I've even done this in real life with a 182, i asked my instructor and he said "do what you wanna do". He told me i was an idiot but i did save fuel. What do you think? I usually fly the Fedex Feeder livery and preten…

A very well written review here. It's expensive, that's true, but uncomparable to any offer you can name, and..., if you're an X-Plane 9 or 10, FSX or P3D user, or simply a Google Earth user, than you can use any of these to give you additional out-of-windshield views.

  16. Hey guys it's been a while since I've posted here, so sorry if this is the wrong forum. Anyway I've been trying to research for a pretty big project of my own. Is there a website that, well describes contract negotiations between Airports and Airlines? I need to know what type of prices they negotiate(gate fees, etc), however I'm having trouble coming up with what goes on. If you guys really want to know I'm starting work on the framework of a potential Airport Management Simulator, text-sim, PC game-based. Airport Tycoon is my main inspiration. I have the story-board all planned out. I have some basic stuff in, however I just want to know what kind of things Airp…

  17. ""Regarding something that could have prevented the accident from occurring, she thought the big issue was the culture. She did not think the line pilots were against having the culture changed but there was no leadership to support the change. She hesitated in the cockpit and she wondered if the FO was going to turn her in to her chief pilot. That threat would be in her mind until she could figure out who her FO was. She felt that the accident FO was quiet and unresponsive and pilots like that were the result of confusion over rumors and not retaliation against her. As an assertive female captain, “I'm the b word”. An assertive male captain was a “good captain." http…

Morning All, I know this topic has been discussed numerous times, and I don't believe we'll ever find a 'perfect' answer, I do believe it's down to personal preference. However I'd like to get peoples experiences with other simulators. I'm currently working with Flight Simulator X along with the obvious Acceleration Pack, ORBX Global, ORBX Vector, ORBX Europe, REX 4, Opus for weather, and so on, all of the obvious and basic addons including aircraft such as PMDG and MyTrafficX for the AI traffic to make the sim feel less 'lonely'. I'd like to know what simulator is currently the 'one' people are heading towards, P3D, X-Plane or sticking with FSX; What are deve…

I recently took a very very long day of travel from Dublin Ireland, that began at 4 am local time, and finished in Charelston S.C. airport at 10:30 PM EST, I'm honestly not sure how long a day of travel that was, because of the time changes, the day we left Ireland went on DST, which means we gained an hour, and technically we began at 5, but it was really 4 am, etc etc. I think it was around 24 hours of either flying or sitting in an airport. What about you? What's your longest day (or many days) of travel via air?

...you need to seek help urgently! This guy is leaving a voicemail for his boss when he witnesses a minor traffic accident. Not fake, it actually happened. In late February, several stations broadcast interviews with a man named Michael Childs, who said that he was the one who left the voicemail message, that the clip was genuine, and that the accident described took place about six years ago in Athens, Texas, while he was working as a construction manager for Jack in the Box. 25. Some people say I have too much free time ... I'm thinking about putting my flight simulator to work to replicate Amy Johnson's 1930 flight to Australia. She is a local hero in Bridlington, with a road named after her and her museum here. She lived in nearby Hull, but visited her grandparents here in Bridlington many times. It would all be real time, in the same aircraft (Jason, her Gipsy Moth), no radios, no autopilot, navigating with a map and looking out of the cockpit for lakes, roads and railway lines. It took her around 130 hours of flying in 8-9 hour sessions, but my version of the Gipsy Moth can only fly for 3 hours, so I would have to land after 3 hours. So …
