Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020/2024)

So it looks like MSFS is using the same awful mechanic as X-Plane in that the mouse wheel automatically zooms. It's driving me nuts. When you're trying to rotate some knob and there's just a little turbulence, the mouse easily is out of the clickspot and starts zooming. Is there any way to revert to good old FSX/P3D mechanics that only let the mouse zoom if you hold SPACE or some other key?

I have owned every flightsim scince MSFS 1. I fly P3D V4 and V5, and Xplane as well as MSFS. I purchased MSFS 2020 on 13 July. After attempts to install to my high end PC which is totally up to date with Windows Ver 2004, I called MS support several times. Finally getting to a game rep without the call being dropped, I was told first to wait 24 hours and try again. Today after seeing the same error trying to install to the pc, I called again. I was told to wait one week for a Windows 10 patch that will fix the install issue. I was polite and told the rep that paying $130 for a piece of software a month early and then being told to wait another week for an OS pat…

I bought MSFS this afternoon resigned to the fact that I might not be able to try it until late evening. Braced myself and started the installation hoping it wouldn’t take more than 2-3 hours...or longer...to download and install. Much to my surprise, it was ready to run after 50 minutes! Maybe the initial demand surge has tapered off? Or maybe they’ve upgraded/reconfigured something. I know that the installation is both downloading and simultaneous unpacking of compressed files so it might have also been helped by the fact that I installed it on a just-built new system with empty SSDs. Also, my internet speed is usually very good but I’m not on fiber or anything. B…

Please someone give me some inspiration! 40 hours since release and still not downloaded! I thought the store version would be better and preordered the full version. Hit the button at midnight Monday. Still waiting 38gb left. The stupid Microsoft account thing keeps sending me round in circles. Can't get support. Can't see any error codes. Can't get in Discord. Option 1. Forget it - ask for a refund. Buy it on Steam? At least with SE it downloaded eventually! Option 2. Delete installation and start again. Option 3. Phone for support? Thanks to a user on here - sorry I don't remember who - I know about pressing Windows key + Prnt Scrn to get a screenshot but Id really like to have just one key to press but not even zendesk appears to tell me how to actually take a screenshot - it just says you can in Showcase camera mode. I'd like a simple button or key for screenshots inside the cockpit to catch what Im seeing at that moment. The clouds are outstanding and its great fun to play with the settings to see what you get. The sim took a while to install but now that it is, Im very pleased. Its very complicated and will take some time to learn.

Hello. All of my aircraft are running when I start. How do I switch to cold and dark start?

I have noticed the night approach lighting system known by some as the running rabbit to the runways is active on all runways which is not how it works in the real world. They should only be on to the active runways being used for landing. Is there a way to correct this? You can also see these lights during the day from way too far away which is not realistic.

I just switched to the Baron for the first time, and I cant for the life of me figure out where the knob to set my desired ap altitude is..?

I was happy for a while flying the 172 and the B58, but then I had to go for the TM850 (?) and after taking off from CYUL I tried and tried to turn on the AP all the while being pestered by a large placard telling me over and over ad infinitum that I was looking at the AP button, essentially hiding it from my grasp...... Is this Microsoft way of helping?? I never got the AP to engage, but I tell ya they sure tried to tell me where that button was So I started anew with the King Air and its AP engaged, but that was about it. Took the C172 out at night for a spin. Both the taxi light and the landing light seem to have a very limited range. Sitting in the cockpit, I can hardly see the runway ahead over the nose, even with both switched on. The lights are definitely on and visible clearly out the side window but this seems to me to be in need of some tuning as all they light up is the area under the nose. (Yeah, i know the landing light has a downward angled focus, but not the taxi light). Anyone else found this? Only aircraft I tried so far, wondering if the others are better.

Has anyone set up a large rolling cache? I've been looking at the loading spinner for 10 minutes now. Can anyone give an estimate how long it takes to create a rolling cache?

Hey guys, This is gonna be an interesting sim. The default airports vs third party airports on some regions. I guess we need to compare default with payware before commiting. Default KORS here below looks so much similar with Orbx KORS. Same goes for LOWI vs Orbx LOWI. Only one other airport I found where Payware wins is EGLC. Ok, i understood FS2020 is visually beautiful. Reviewers cannot consider just this. I want to hear something about: 1 - Bad stuttering i see in every video. I experienced it with beta at any setting (Ryzen7 3800x @4.3 + 2080ti + 32GB RAM @4.0) and hoped that final version wouldn't stutter. I was wrong looking at the final version's videos. Hi new user with an x56 stick and throttle. All is working well apart from if I push the x56 throttle to max the throttle in the game goes down as I reach the furthest point. It is like it is not calibrated to the range properly, how do I fix this? Looked at sensitivity in the options but really have no idea what I am doing with it. thanks josh

The most important and fundamental component of any flight sim is the controllers. I can't even fly on less than -95% sensitivity. Yes I am using CH products (combat stick, pro pedals and throttle) and I know they are old - but they have been magnificent after tuning in FSX and P3D. I am even trying Mr. Dowsons extremely generous offer of free FSUIPC 7 til October but still I am unable to fly with any precision. How has this disaster occured? My planes are like a rocking cradle. Hey guys, I can only use real weather and traffic if my firewall is off which doesn't do much for security. Does anybody know what files I need to allow through the firewall? Also. has anyone found a way to save an outside view like we had with locked spot plane in P3D? I would like to set up my view and then save it so I don't have to set it every time. Particularly I would like to keep the plane side view centered on the screen. Right now it's too low and off to the side. Thank you very much

From shots I have seen elsewhere it appears to be possible to access a 'Live' time slider without having to go right back to the screen where flights are set up. Anyone know how this is done? T45

I guess someone at the navdata provider should revise the database. Made some random ILS approaches with the C172 G1000 and it can be good but it also can be broken - if it is broken everything can happen. ILS puts you several meters right of the centerline, additionally the glideslope might be missing. At FALW (20L): the LOC is available but points straight to the wrong RWY 02R, without glideslope of course, etc, etc, etc. As I said, it can be good - just had a perfect ILS landing at EGTC. That gives me severe headaches.

The sim uses DirectX11, which makes me wonder if it runs under Win8 if you just install it and run it. Why is there a Win10 requirement if it does not use DirectX12?
