WIN10 OS Forum
WIN10 is the next OS release coming from MS. We are sure there are many questions regarding the use of FSX, P3D, FSX-SE, X-Plane and other sims in this new system. We have opened this forum for the community to focus on that OS and the impact of FS use within it. You can also post questions if you are having problems with WIN10.

MS continues to force certain features on their users and with the Fall Creators update, the controversial Game Mode is now enabled by default with no way to switch it on or off unless you edit the registry. As Game Mode only really works with games from the Windows store, and is suspected to cause issues with other games, you may want to disable it on your sim PC. Here's how its done: https://www.addictivetips.com/windows-tips/disable-game-mode-in-fall-creators-update-windows-10/

Coming back from a trip in two weeks and going to do a new computer/P3D build. Will be going Win10. The question I have is seeing how smoothly FCU rolled out, I'm wondering about going the LTSB route (until MS fixes the Home/Pro version). Anyone using LTSB and P3DV4? Of course I'll see how Patch Bluesday goes this week, but if it breaks things even further, I'll be trying to decide on an older version ISO of Win10 Pro, or LTSB. Comments/Advice?

It seems that MS posted that Dec 31st, 2017 will be the last date to do a free upgrade to Win 10 from Windows 7 and 8. Don't know if this is good or bad news, but apparently they (MS) will be ceasing the support to Win 7 & 8 from that date on also. Cheers, Ed

Windows 10 Creator finally caught up to me. After the installation I tried running FSX:SE and everything was fine booting up. When I selected the airplane and clicked "fly", it loaded just fine and when it got to "Load Complete" 100% then it froze. Just a blank screen. I downloaded the latest Nvidia driver with the same results. I've read some of the posts on the forum and not really sure what to do. I've seen some posts ranging from rollback to having to wipe the hard drive and start over. Has anyone experienced this and what was your solution? Thanks. Rodger

So ended up having a major issue after constantly uninstalling one of the Windows cumulative updates which i thought i had turned off. Was forced to reinstall windows (i.e. windows wouldn't even come up) so didn't get a chance to uninstall items etc. Have since reinstalled Win, P3D, Orbx, etc. My question is that things like payware Aircraft, active sky and all those things that were installed on a separate drive (my P3D drive) are still there and work correctly but do not show up in the Add Remove Programs. Is there any reason this would cause issues?

I don't know if this has been suggested before, I noticed in X-Plane11 I was receiving some random stutters, just every now and then. I know there are a lot of souls out there with nothing better to do but to ping systems. So finally I decided to block inbound Network Discovery, all the entries, as well as Remote Desktop Assistance. X-Plane11's stutters went away, just like that, and it seems fps went up as well. Might be a Placebo effect, but I thought I would post... John

If you are like me you are always trying to live on the bleeding edge. This topic will make sense. In reality, I would have thought there was a topic already about the Creators Edition update to Windows 10 and the potential impact on P3D, but I have not seen one. I am downloading to my test machine and see what changes will potentially impact my system. I am wondering has anyone updated their P3D platform and has feedback for this community. If not, I will share my experience as I go forward.

Looks like they are finally fixing the memory allocation bug in DX9 that has been present since Windows 7. https://www.neowin.net/news/windows-10-fall-creators-update-fixes-the-directx-9-memory-allocation-bug This may be a small boon to FSX users who still use DX9. Wonder how many unexplained OOM's reported here since Windows 7 have been due to this.

I am going crazy with this. I notice some buffering on videos and so on, when I checked the task manager something "nice" shown up. I saw many people with the issue and I tried many of so called fixes, still it goes to 0kbps in spikes. I deactivated the peer-to-peer (nice stuff Microsoft, nice stuff...) , set the network throttling to 0xFFFFFFFF, deactivated shares, Bluetooth and so on. I even changed the wifi usb adapter (as I said, OK, TPlink has no driver for win 10, it was even worse with that, I had from time to time to use repair connection function). In my Realtek USB Wireless LAN Utility (for my new adapter, latest driver is installed) I see also …

Hi! Yesterday I was flying LJLJ-EDDF with P3D v4 and mouse stopped responding to clicks. When I pressed the button on mouse, weird BEEP, BEEP sound came out of speakers and nothing happend and I was forced to shut down the computer. It happend when I was on approach at EDDF. Is my weak PSU reason for that (350W), because I am going to replace it with the new one tomorrow? PC specs: Windows 10, Windows 7 i7 7700 (HT enabled, running at 4,2 GHz) 2x8 DDR4 RAM KFA2 GeForce GTX 1060 240GB SSD, 1TB HDD, 2TB HDD Thank you!

Okay, my i7-7700K/1080ti pre-built CyperowerPC just arrived. It's not even unboxed yet. It's got WIN10 installed (Primary drive is 3TB HDD with optane memory cache). It does NOT have a CD/DVD/Blu_ray drive. Being completely unfamiliar with WIN 10, any assistance in getting off 'on the right foot' would be most appreciated. I intend to run P3D V4 and XP11 on this machine (also, possibly re-install FSX gold and P3D V3.4). So, I need to get from an empty system to an operating sim PC. Some areas where I could use help in no particular order: 1) Updates to install/avoid. These would go into the machine BEFORE I install any sim specific devices (e.g. TIR, Saitek…

Hi Folks, Not sure this is the proper forum, but anyhow here goes: Yesterday when firing up the simulator, it would not start, and a message popped up [Error 10] that Windows Defender has quarantined the file: gtninterface.dll and that it needs to be replaced. I am running Win10 for P3Dv4. I have tried to search the computer to find where the file is hidden, but no luck. If someone could direct me to it with instructions on how to repair GTN750 I will be grateful. I thought i had disabled Defender, but guess i didn't. Thanks!

I’m having an issue with the PMDG Operations Center and it could be related to admin rights in my PC. I’ve only just run into this issue now, I’ve never had any issue updating anything before whether automatic or manually. The Ops Ctr ignores the command to update the 3 aircraft I have in P3D v4. I had my PC built at a local computer store chain and had very specific instructions as to how I wanted the OS, which at that time was Windows 7 x64 and later upgraded to Windows 10 Pro. At one point I was installing an app and was having issues and as I dug a little deeper I saw that although I was installing as admin my user account truly was not the actual admin of the …

I have W7 x64 on a separate partition in a HDD. The rest of that drive I use for all kinds of storage. On two separate drives I have FSX and P3Dv3. I plan to build a new rig with P3D4 in mind (will be my 7th build). Ideally, I will install the new OS (separate partition) on a new SSD or HDD and copy over the storage folders/files depending on available space. My question: Will I be able to physically install my current FSX and P3D HDDs to the new rig AND have them work? Or must I do a clean install of these sims in Windows 10? If I do this, will FSX and P3D3/4 run properly in the new OS? I'd be grateful for advice. John

Hello, The Aerosoft Twin Otter Extended uses a font called Quartz to display the numbers in the NAV, COM, TCAS panels . Upon installing the aircraft, it worked fine. When I loaded the aircraft a day later, these gauges were blank. The cause seems to be the font is being removed from the Windows font library automatically. I tried deleting the font cache and the gauges worked after a restart. However, when I shut down my PC again, the fonts disspear. The current workaround is to Boot the PC, install the font and restart. Given the long boot time my PC has, it gets very annoying after a few times. Any help on how to solve this ? Some users fixed it by r…

Just a heads up if you happen to come across unexplained fsx.exe crashes as of recent, it might be due to this Win10 update. It is definitely causes issue with the Concorde X, so it is conceivable that our sim could be affected with other aircraft or addons also. This is a straightup, immediate crash once the plane almost or just finishes loading. There is a thread about it here: https://forums.flightsimlabs.com/index.php?/topic/13725-notice-on-win10-kb4038788/ That thread also mentions P3D issues also: http://www.prepar3d.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=126667

Hey all, Post windows 10 update (as always), my Prepar3d V4 screen resolution has gone loopy. I only fly in 'full screen', and usually when i do, It's full 4K which is my monitors native resolution. Now whenever i start the sim, my screen is 1/6th its size and jammed up in the top left hand corner of my screen. The rest of the screen realestate is black. Jumping in and out of full screen and re-sizing the window eventually stretches it out, however all of my menu's can then only be accessed from a strange portion of the screen. Almost as if it got jammed trying to resize. Latest video drivers installed also....

It appears as I move into P3Dv4 my Logitech flightsim panels (formally Saitek), of radio, multi and switch panels have issues. Questions: 1. Do USB ports retain memory? It seems I can only get my switch panel to work if I plug it into a certain USB ports. Is there a way to assign it to another port? 2. I can get the panels to work but the red LEDs numbers do not light up. I've read that could be a Windows issue of powering down USB ports. I went to each USB port under devices to turn off the power management for all but they still do not light up while other parts of the panel do. Any other simmer come across this with a fix? I am for now using the …
