WIN10 OS Forum
WIN10 is the next OS release coming from MS. We are sure there are many questions regarding the use of FSX, P3D, FSX-SE, X-Plane and other sims in this new system. We have opened this forum for the community to focus on that OS and the impact of FS use within it. You can also post questions if you are having problems with WIN10.

Hi, I've been having an issue on my laptop for at least a month or so....every few minutes the CD makes a noise like something is moving in it, even though there is no CD there. At the same time, prepar3d (and truthfully anything I'm running) pauses. I'm sure this is something simple to fix, any ideas? Thanks, Scott

For installation of an addon, I was advised to turn off Windows Defender, but even with Defender turned off, there are still items active in the Defender's virus & Threat Protecion section. When I click on the On/Off slider, or pull it to the Off side, it immediately jumps back to On. How do I turn off those settings?

I am about to start a clean install of FSX-SE on my brand new W10/Kaby lake build. I am walking into new territory here having never used SE or W10 before while flying on several earlier MSFS versions including FSX on W7 for several years. On reminiscing those past years I always ran my flight sim rig with UAC off and had a pretty trouble free flying experience. However, I also recall some very frustrating times getting rid of self installing garbage apps, and malware, etc and at least two Windows reinstalls over the years. When researching this (UAC) subject, I read a lot of advice on on how to turn it off, which I already know, but no sound reason for doing so and …

Hi all, Last night I had an unrecoverable failure of my laptop hard drive. So I downloaded the W10 boot disk software from the Microsoft website and used a 1t bite external HD which I had many FlightSim backup files. I fixed the laptop but I didn't realize the boot disk software would possible reformat the whole external HD. Can someone tell me for sure if this is what happened and if not how to recover any FS data that is hopefully still on the drive. When I click on the hard drive using explorer I see only the boot disk data. (it appears to have partitioned 32GB and left 899.51GB unallocated) thanks Ice

If you are running W10 (any version) and own any external hard drives such as the Western Digital My Book line of drive, in any capacity, and you are connected to a true USB 3.0, or 3.1 SuperSpeed USB port, and where you should be seeing transfer rates of normally between 115, to 120 MB/s, but are only seeing, and have every only seen around 55-62 MB/s...here's why...and here's how to fix the fact that you ever only reading and writing at USB 2.0 speeds all the while. It is the external drive's driver Policy Here's what to do...to check...and truly get USB 3.0 SuperSpeed, and for some, perhaps after reading this post...for the very first time, after your re-boot…

Hi all, I'm in the middle of a new computer build. All new components except keyboard, mouse and monitor and a new install of win10. I'm not finished getting everything installed/setup yet, but noticed a potential big problem as far as flight sim is concerned. I have been getting random computer restarts since I got windows installed. Yesterday windows did an auto update and it restated 2 or 3 times in a couple of hours after the update completed. I think it happened once or twice also before the update if I remember correctly. I have been doing a bit of internet searching (appears to be an issue with win 10 based on my searches) and have been trying various re…

For latest Active Sky 16 and some headtracking, I think Opentrack, I seem to have some weird permission issues. Yet, I have run the net user administrator and turned down the notifications. Did I miss something there? I checked virus scanner and even turned it off for a while. I was wondering if recreating my profile would really reset permissions entirely on the drive c: where the apps seem to have problems? opentrack complains it cannot write to my \users\bic\Documents (yet I can) When I check permissions, I can see read only has a square in it (checked). Is that right? AS16 support area is similar and says to turn off virus scann…

Thinking of trying Game Mode, thoughts if you have experience turning this on? Any positives for p3d or fsx?

I think I'm still not sure about this for the purpose of FSX and P3D specifically. None of the games he tested are 32bit (cause who uses that anymore?) but FSX and P3D definitely are, and by anecdotal evidence running at the ragged edge of vas exhaustion on many machines. Who's to say, without some very specific testing, if windows kindly returning a bit of ram might not be more beneficial than is the case with more modern programs?

I down loaded a folder from paint livery's. Then click on it to open it. a window popped up and it read, open with, and gave a couple of choices, I thought I did something wrong. I didn't know what windows uses to open files for down loads, so I choses note pad. My question is, How do I get back to what windows uses and not what I chose. Thanks Stan

Just wanted to mention, that I did a full test of my P3D and FSX installations with this update, and in using the new nVidia WHQL driver: 381.65 had the highest FPS on both sims that historically I got with my system, and smooth animation in both. So, from a running stand-point, there should be no surprises should you decide to update before the forced push starting April 11.

Not sure if this has been posted here already, but it seems that recent Win10 Redstone 3 builds (internal name for the next big Win10 update, due to be released in Fall 2017) are rendering 3rd party addons unusable due to changes in OneCore which is an essential part of Win10 (its part of the "Windows Everywhere" strategy allowing all Microsoft hardware platforms to use the same OS core, Desktop, Mobile and Xbox). This seems to affect pop up window handling of 3rd party addons for P3D/FSX. AFAIK. Redstone3 is currently only being rolled out to fast ring insider members but it might soon be extended to slow ring participants. Its currently unclear if those issues are …

I know it's a risky business not running any anti virus, but I'd still like to know how to permanently disable windows defender. It keeps quaranteening stuff that is no risk (like some of my p3d addons), and when I turn it off, it's right back on again on the next reboot. It's damn annoying, and I want to take controll of this stuff myself.

Installed Creator. Fixed an issue with Track IR. Great now will fly. Had been testing with just my Xbox 360 controller as that is permanently plugged in. Connected all my Saitek hardware up . Now had a problem, every time I pushed my Saitek Throttle forward, in the virtual cockpit it would advance then return to stop. ARG ! Ok lets try other planes to see if it was a issue with the model. Same result. All planes the same. Lets try my CH Throttle (use for twin engine). ARG same result! Reboot. try again. Same result. Mixture & Prop RPM all ok, just the darn throttle keeps returning to stop even thought the hardware lever is in full…

Hi everybody! I was getting error after error in Windows 10. Out of memory, shutdowns etc. I'm going to completely reïnstall Windows. What do you guys think? Windows 10 or 7? In Windows 7 i've never had any issues. That's why I have this dilemma... And any suggestions about a special partition for FSX or a folder directly in de C drive? Thank you!

I experimented with both windows 7 and windows 10 both fully updating both and turning off updates on both as well. And i can safely say that playing fsx on a fresh install of win7 with no updates(iso u can find on other websites) is way faster than windows 10. Im in the process of getting screenshots of fsx on both so you guys can see this is facts

This is the only problem I have had so far, would not work at all. However on the Track IR forum picked up this tip, that worked for me. Just be v careful if you edit the registry. You might want to try it without that bit first. Hope it helps someone out there https://forums.naturalpoint.com/viewtopic.php?f=60&t=14327 1. Remove TrackIR from add/remove programs 2. Remove NaturalPoint Drivers from add/remove programs. 3. Delete installer executable from where you saved it 4. Delete NaturalPoint folder from Program Files x86 5. Delete NaturalPoint folder from %APPDATA% location. 6. Open regedit.exe as an ad…

Hello all, I'm one of the later migrants from Windows 7 to 10 and dragging FS9 to the next gen with my new computer. As seen in this video, I am having some really annoying audio mix. I'm trying to find a solution but have yet to find one, has anyone got a fix or a link on how to fix this? *******CAUTION*********** The audio in the attachment is loud to showcase the issue, sorry headphone users. :) Thanks, -Mike

Since updating about two days ago, there seems to be no attempt by W10 C.U. to download a nVidia driver suite and override what I wish to have installed. I even tried to force the issue, by repeating attempts to 'Check For Updates'. W10 Anniversary Update would attempt to download Microsoft's preferred nVidia driver suite within about 15 minutes of installing the Anni Update, or when you next Check For Updates. So perhaps they got the message, and that type of driver is no longer on the 'hit list', to override and update. Here's hoping.

Hello, I am interested in building a computer for flight simulators. I'm using p3d and aerofly 2. I'm having issues with my current build: i7 6700k Skylake Gigabyte Gaming 7 Board EVGA 980ti Classified Graphics Card (3) Asus PB 287q 4k Monitors I am getting slow framerates, and also strange lighting errors in Aerofly. I'm thinking I should upgrade to a 1080, or a couple. Would (2) of these rigged SLI provide enough horsepower, or should I get 3? Also would I benefit from a processor with more cores? Maybe Xeon?

*I'm running default aircraft, scenery and airports. Creator's release build 1703. Short Beech flight A-OK. Longer 2 landing 737-800 flight A-OK. Mid-flight changes in 3rd flight 737-800 Changed to RW weather, changed time and season, changed to Cessna 208. All full screen just using ALT to get to the menu bar and R click hide menu bar. No crashes which it used to do every time I made a single change. Engine sounds are enhanced. Goose still has funky sound issue when changing views, Q key still corrects it. It took about 2 hours to download and install with my 4 Mbit connection. If you don't want to wait for the rolli…

After the last Windows 10 update a few days ago, my main PC crashed almost immediately and then continued (unsuccessfully) TRYING to auto repair, reboot, and just going into a never ending loop. Having backups, I decided to try a full reinstall of Windows 10. All was fine until I plugged in any USB device to main motherboard (rear) USB ports, at which point, the fault reoccurred. I've tried 4 times now, but if I plug anything into the rear USB ports, it kills Windows, forcing me to reinstall windows yet again, as a repair never works. This is pretty much a disaster for me as I use this PC for work as well as FS:-(((( Can anyone please help with this?
