WIN10 OS Forum
WIN10 is the next OS release coming from MS. We are sure there are many questions regarding the use of FSX, P3D, FSX-SE, X-Plane and other sims in this new system. We have opened this forum for the community to focus on that OS and the impact of FS use within it. You can also post questions if you are having problems with WIN10.

I am trying to access Orbx's site to download the latest Orbxlibs. When I type the fullterrain web page address In the address bar I get a download notification instead of the web page opening. I am asked to download a .php file. This does not happen where I have bookmarked some websites like AVSIM for example. This happens on my PC's with Windows 10 and 7 using Chrome, IE and FireFox.

I have a laptop with genuine windows 8.1 pre-installed. I want to update it to windows 10 but is unable to do so. The problem is as follow. When I go to PC settings --> Update and recovery --> Windows Update, it keeps on searching for updates for much longer time but did not shows any updates available. You can check the screenshot attached (pic). It did not comes out of this state even after much time. For other way I also downloaded windows 10 installer from Microsoft windows website. But when I run it, it shows the popup every time as shown in attached screenshot (pic1). I tried re-starting windows multiple times but same thing happens. Also few days …

...stating that "Installation failed in the First_boot phase with an error during migrate_data operation". Thought I'd share a fix (as there appear to be a few others on the ORBX forums hitting this too). Found that there was an error with an ORBX file called "TODO" in the C:\Users\Dylan\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Orbx (after hunting around in the C:\$Windows.~BT\Sources\Panther diagerror.log). Deleted that, and the install completed normally.

I'm planning to update my Win 7 to Win 10. A little worried since this computer runs FSX very well, but it seems wise, maybe, to update before Microsoft cuts off the free update. I believe they'll support Win 10 after they cease support for Win 7. My question is what should I backup before updating? I have FSX + Acceleration and only a few additional aircraft and scenery add-ons. Any advice is appreciated.

Hi all, When running FSX on Win 10 (I have upgraded from Win 7 Pro), each time on start the FSX asks for activation. I enter the code, I receive the OK message, run the fsx, exit when I finish - and when I want to run it again it asks for activation again. It keeps asking for activation each time I start running the app. What can I do to solve this? Thanks, Arye

This is a feature in win 10, apparently to prevent swapping to disk. The problem is, it seems to be very aggressive in doing that. On a system with 16gb of RAM, and running x-plane, the process used 7-8, and "system and compressed" 2-3gb. It looks to me that the OS was always compressing/decompressing pages in RAM, although there was enough free available, task manager reported 65 % usage. The "system and compressed" also used 20-30 CPU . long story short, disabling the superfetch service stopped this behavior.. Probably some of you ran into this, just sharing my observation.

My apologies if this has been asked before. I have FSX with a lot of add-ons of various sorts ( & FS9 which I hardly use) on Windows 7, if I upgrade to Windows 10 how does it affect my all my installs. Do I have to remove the flight simulators before the upgrade, also what happens to other applications like my Logitech joystick, video card etc, speakers etc etc.

Hi All, In a previous post I indicated that I was not impressed by W10. I have now decided to give it another try and have downloaded it several times. Each time it has started the installation phase it tells me that there is not enough space on my C drive to accommodate the recovery file and advises that I should choose another drive. The option to put the recovery file on an external drive was used. The installation failed each time. The C drive size has been increased by using Acronis Disk Director, taking unused space from E drive ( the second partition of one physical disk). Is there any way of recovering the W 10 downloaded installation file(s) to av…

Now that I'm thinking to upgrade my laptop to a SSD (see current specs at the bottom), I'll also perform a clean install of Windows on it (something I never did with my 4-year old laptop, i.e., I started it using it as unboxed). However, this could be a good chance to move to Windows 10. This is what i have in my laptop: - FS 2004, in full screen (always) - FSUIPC registered - PSS 757 and 777 - Wilco/Feelthere Airbus - Feelthere E135/E145 - Feelthere E170/E190 - Leonardo Maddog - vasFMC gauge version - ISG gauges - iFly 737 and 747v2 (but I'm not longer flying them) - And lots of sceneries that shouldn't be an issue. Is it worthwhile to move to Windows 1…

Hi , I was not sure which forum to post this into but as I use FSX thought I would start with that. Been away from flight sim for about 6 months now and have just taken the plunge and installed windows 10, all my Saitek appears to be working which is what I thought I would struggle with. However I sometimes use FSPassengers and I like the text on the little pop up tool to be nice and crisp, along with the FSX menus at the top of the screen. However since going to Windows 10, they have become very blurry. Normally to correct this I would in Nvidia Inspector 1.9.7.2 change “antialiasing – Behaviour flags to “Treat override as application controlled””. In fact it still s…

I was trying to write up instructions for this and realized I would probably just confuse people. So here's a video I found instead! I hate extra Icons on my desktop, and this is a great place to hide all the Orbx and other Crap. (Just keep in mind when placing Icons manually from folders that they usually have to be shortcuts. Just dropping the icon from the actual game usually will not work)

I am adding a Win 10 laptop to a Homegroup consisting of all Win 7 PC's. Wanted to have it run some FS 3rd party programs like AI Super Traffic Board. So I had the Win 10 laptop join my Homegroup, was simple and harmless, and I can see it there but if I try to access it from one of my Win7 pcs, I get a window stating I need to input my Network Username and password (didn't know I had one as I have never come across this in the past using just Win7 pcs). Even created a "test folder" fully shared with the Homegroup I cannot access it as well. I will start researching on what's going on but I figured a few of you simmers may have encountered the same issue when …

I know I would need to do it eventually, but given my windows 7 and all the addons run nicely (UT2, PMDG, P3D, the old good FSX for installing addons, and all the airports), I hesitate everytime when I almost pull the trigger. I wonder if I simply press the windows update button would do the magic? Or should I expect to clean install every addons afterward? The thing I am worrying the most is old programs like UT2 won't work in W10. Or should I tell myself "if it ain't broke, don't fix it"? my system: 3770k OC to 4.7Ghz, SLI 2x970

All other sounds are working in the sim with no problem. Has anyone else had this experience? I would appreciate any and all advise Thanks Don

If you are trying to resist being pushed into a Win 10 upgrade, be aware that Microsoft are increasing the pressure to change. The upgrade is now reclassified as 'Recommended' so more people will find it downloaded automatically. And they've adopted a couple of new tricks. The last round of 'Security' updates contained a cumulative update for Internet Explorer 11, numbered KB3139929. Microsoft have used this as a Trojan Horse to hide other non security updates. These do not show up anywhere else, so cannot be deleted individually. They include KB3146449 which 'Updates IE11 capabilities to upgrade Windows 8.1,8 and 7' ( that is - allowing it to install Win 10)…

Thought I'd post this as a 'hmmmm, interesting' note. I'm currently flying with my home cockpit setup, with the main sim running on Windows 10 pro 64 bit. I'd prefer to run Windows 7 here, but for some reason the cockpit suite of software I use doesn't like win 7. ( the author and I figure it has something to do with the way multithreading works with win 7 that was screwing up) Anyway. I did a test flight today and found that input director wasn't win 10 compatible when it overloaded the PC, leaving the CPU stuck at 100%. So I removed that and tried 'mouse without borders' from Microsoft. It works pretty well, albeit with a drop in Fps if you move the mouse to a ne…
